Try attaching the drive with the pc already turned on.

When you are attaching the cable, and then turning the pc on, the hd is recieving the reset signal and relocking.

K tried that it takes alittle while to find it then i still get those same errors but not so many it says cant find partition file...

Hey castisos.

I'm currently having to hotswap my xbox hard drive after a disasterous soft mod attempt

I've been able to hotswap my xbox hard drive by following the usual instructions, however I got to the point where the xbox wouldn't even load.
Every attempt after that, to hotswap the xbox hard drive back into the PC, failed with the exact same errrors you say you're getting

So it looks like you've got your xbox to the stage where it isn't unlocking the drive and then when you're placing the drive in your PC it is still locked and ldots boot CD is giving you all those errors because the drive is detectable but LOCKED

What is the best SOLDERLESS modchip for the xbox that came with Tetris/Starwars bundle? cuz this shit is fucked

wrong... you have it bass-ackwards me thinks m8

...in a nutshell...

1. remove covers from both xbox and PC
2. remove all HDD's from PC
3. Insert UDE CD into PC CD tray
4. Boot Xbox normally with NO CD in it's tray
5. Boot PC from CD-rom with the UDE in tray
6. When you see "boot: _" on screen,
Quickly remove IDE cable from Xbox HDD
and plug the PC Primary Master IDE into Xbox HDD

if you still get those errors, your prolly locked out in which case you'll be posting some more 4 letter words in this thread, but hopefully not directed towards me

Heres an extra tidbit i got from experiance, id recently built a new computer using new bits and pieces from my trusty old hp comp from a looong time ago, anyways, it would work fine to hotswap at bios, but my new comp wont work if i do it then, i eventually decided to try what would happen if i hotswapped after booting the cd, long story short, it worked, may or may not work for you but hey, at least you got to listen to me crap on

Well guys i got some sad news...on one of my other posts in the hardware section i post a message that was like : My xbox takes 1-2 mins to boot up without a cd in the drive since i bought it last christmas but it boots up in like 5-8 seconds when i open the drive instead of pressing power...then they told me my HD is gunna die soon so does that mean that there is a communication error? and thats why it wont unlock? dammit i rallly wanted to softmod but i guess im gunna have to go out and buy a crystal xboix $249.99 i also noticed when i boot it up i can here the hd make a click noise then it sounds like its reading. but i dont here alot of clicking...

Disassemble your xbox. Disconnect the dvd ide in the xbox. Leave the hd ide connected.
Boot your xbox. When the error screen comes up, your xbox hdd is (more than likely) UNLOCKED.
Hotswap into your PC

Ok i just tried to do what u just said like 20 times and i pause it at bios and then hot swap when the error screen comes on and then click unpause and it finds my drive quick and then i load up the cd click enter it loads up the program gets down to Finding Partion C: or something like that i forget waits for a couple seconds something pops up under neath it saying hda : intr_error {DriveSeek error DiskStatusError and a couple more in there} then it goes down even more and says Unable to Locate Partion C: on hda i think that is what it said and then i goto the xboxhd for a test to see if it is unlock and i guess it is because it didnt say "Xbox HDD LOCKED" and stuff disabled...

But it just can find my partions why?

did you try connecting it AFTER the bios, i.e. at the Boot Disks Choice screen?

That didnt work... do i need to switch any of the setting for the PM IDE in the bios screen ?

Like

Sectors : 4,8 or 16 ?
LBA : somekinda setts
Data read and Sending Settings :

not sure if i should switch any of those but what should they be sett at?

i left mine default, oh and p.s. if you xbox hd gets errors in the proggy (the init_err or whatever things) it means its locked
