Title: Ude2
Post by: Viper16 on August 05, 2004, 08:34:00 PM
Ok I followed every tut that I have come accross to mod out this xbox (if you didn't see it's a v1.6, K: 5838) but when I get everything done I try to do a clean boot and hope it boots the evoxdash.xbe but it instead just stays there at the xbox logo doing nothing, what did I do wrong I followed it completly. Any help would be nice.

Can you give some more details? Are you using NKPatcher/PBLM2? Which version of the fonts? There is a fonts60 and fonts70.

If you are using fonts70, did you copy the fonts in the following order Bert first then Ernie, sometimes that helps. And make sure you have the file you want to boot after the exploit as E:\default.xbe.  This can be, NKPatcher, PBLM2, or a habibi signed dash...  (Note some dashes cannot be signed, ie XBMC)

Hey, I had the same problem as you when softmodding a freind's v1.6 and it's most likely a font problem if what Ethan said doesn't fix your problem.

I was going nuts too lol. Firstly, Before you did anything..... When you first go into the xbox thru FTP or whatever way you did...... did you have both a fonts directory with the original fonts for the dashboard and also have fonts on the root of C: ?

If there is 2 xtf files in the root of C:  deleting them most likely will fix your problem.

No matter what fonts i used, even generic it would always just hang at the xbox logo up until I deleted the fonts on the root of C: and then it went straight into my dash after loading thru NKpatcher ofcourse.

Make sure that the only fonts you have are in your fonts and f0nts directory and not the root of C. The fonts directory should have your kernel specific font (I used the 5838 one from fonts7) and ernie.xtf and that's it. Your f0nts directory should have the fonts that were there prior to your UDE2 installation (The original fonts are only really needed if you want to access the m$ dashboard) . Hope this fixes your problem. Good Luck.

Ok I tried what you guys said and it still freezes, I have tried using everything. Is unleashx a ok dash or does it not work (I tried evox too) but nothing seems to work, I'm lost at what is messing this up, Cause I got the 4920 Update and turned it into the nfl one with the patcher, got the 5838 bert from the right place, and still nothing. Any help would be nice (Is the nkpatcher just one file? default.xbe if so then I have tried it.).

divide and conquer. Forget whatever dash you want to boot.

just make sure c:\fonts contains the correct original fonts(none of the hacks) and see if you can see anything beyond the logo.

then remove those fonts(I just rename c:\fonts to another directory and make a new one and copy in the hack fonts). and try again.

Of course, make sure your machine don't lost power as before the font works, you may get into the clock reset and you would need hotswap. For me, I just quickly test it and if it doesn't work, revert everything back to normal immediately. Never leave it in this "don't know what state" for long.

Alright I still had the hacked fonts when it froze but with the orig fonts it says Update compleated starting updated title. So what does that mean? What's wrong?

Thanks for your guy's help,

Hey thanks for the help but it still doesn't work. I know I followed these tut's perfectly, I'll do it for my fourth time but what else could it be?
Also would using the generic bert work?

Also is this just a typo in one of the tut's becuase he say's it every time there is a :
43. Within the new fonts directory copy Bert-<your kernel-version>-01.xtf and Ernie.xft from DIRECTORY X to it.

ernie. So is it xft or xtf (i've been doing it xtf)

did you sign the ntkpatcher with the habibi.  that sounds like a step you didnt get.
Make sure there isnt any .xtf files in the root.

Did you take your update.xbe and run the s patcher, and made sure it was the right size.

make sure the fonts\ has the hacked .xtf file only

Have you read my UDE2 post? the tutorial you were reading probably suggested the wrong fonts for you, which is why I unpinned it.

UDE2

Download fonts70. After renaming your original fonts folder to f0nts, create a new fonts folder to replace the one you renamed. Place the two following fonts from the fonts70 zip file in the fonts directory you just created:

\updatefonts70\fonts\nfl-fever-2003-us-s1916928\bert-5838-01.xtf
\updatefonts70\fonts\ernie.xtf

Place the nkpatcher also from my thread in the root of your E:\ and then a dashboard named evoxdash.xbe in the root of your C:\

Yes I did all that I got a new nkpatcher, signed that with the "habibi" and xbedump.
I have only the hacked fonts in the font's folder, and the orig folder is f0nts (the zero)
Yes I did do the patch on the 4920 dash Updated.xbe, turned it into the 1916928 filesize.
There are no .xtf in the root of C, I have the signed nkpatcher (default.xbe) in the root of E, I have my dash called evoxdash.xbe, with any of it's nessecery files (skins, evox.ini, config.xml, etc.), I renamed the update to xboxdash.xbe, and renamed the other one org-xboxdash.xbe. What else am I messing? I also tried the memory card installer (ltools) but it doesn't do crap, and even when I put in the update.xbe.zip it didn't do anything. So what's the problem? Also do I have to erase the s.xtf and then put in the s2.xtf or is that not gonna work either?

Thanks for the help but I can't figure out what's going on,
Degalle

Edit: Yeah I know about your tut it was the first one that got me on this little quest or whatever. But I have done everything, and tried everything but nothing is working. Would it help to let you guys know that my xbox is only 2 months old or does it even matter? Unless the things lie I should have a k: 5838, and that's what ltools MXM says and so did evox (1.0.5838), it's not a pal a ntsc. I don't know what else there is, if anything else would help besides the fact that the xbox overheats I think, 153 degrees F? is that overheating (lol)

Are you using the fonts I just suggested? or the font60? To my knowledge fonts60 will not work on 1.6's you should only need the two files I posted above in the fonts directory. You DO NOT need to sign the nkpatcher with the -habibi key, it is already signed. Download it again and just place it in the root of your E:\

At no time did you verify what fonts you are using (60 or 70). If you are using 60, this is most likely your problem. There is a tutorial floating around that is incorrect in suggesting you to use 60's fonts.

Worst comes to worst, use the fonts in the following directory:

\updatefonts70\fonts\nfl-fever-2003-us-s1916928\bert-generic.xtf
\updatefonts70\fonts\ernie.xtf

See that's the thing I am using the update70.zip fonts unless you named them that just to mess with people (Just messing with you) but like I said I have checked everything over and over again. I'll do just the hacked fonts, with just the default.xbe striaght from the .zip again.

Edit: Tried the above, still nothing but a frozing logo screen with the white micro$oft logo at the bottom.

There's nothing in fonts60 themselves that prevent working on 1.6. It's just the memory layout changes from box to box somewhat. It's a good idea to try fonts60 too. Another thing to try is to change the language setting to Chinese (and try some other language). That will alter the memory layout too.

True, I've done 5 local K:5838 boxes. All of which fonts60 failed on. Maybe its the polluted NYC air laugh.gif. I was suggesting to try the fonts70 also, as the person who wrote the tutorial suggested that fonts60 are only needed for K:5838. Try them all until something works wink.gif. Generic fonts seem to get you out of a mess too.
