Doesn't Xbox Live check the xboxdash.xbe?
If they don't, which files do they check? |
Why Should it ?
The retail Game Boots up the legit default.xbe on the dvdrom.
every other xbes are bypassed.

no,
only the xbe's on the dvd

It doesn't load the xboxdash.xbe at first. But when you go to xbl it will check if you have the right dash installed. Now it can update your xboxdash.xbe because you don't have the right xboxdash.xbe for the required xbl dashboard.
Or am i completely wrong? Does it check other files, to verify you have the right dash? |
Ur not completely wrong

It does chk for other XBEs on the Retail DVD Game like download.xbe,update.xbe, dashupdate.xbe, etc...
apparently no xbes are chked on the HDD.
So the Retail Disc kinda works as a Boot Disc
If it doesn't check any files on the hdd, why you have to update your dash then?
Its an Auto feature on XBL , so whenever a New Dashboard Upgrade come along XBL will update it Automatically
& So updating ur Dashboard & Registering/Recovering ur Gamertag Online, will help to authenticate & verify all ur MS signed files to ur XBL a/c.
& updating your dash does not do anything to ur UDE/UDE2 as its not a Dashboard exploit.
So theres ur answer

The ultimate DASHBOARD exploit (UDE) is not a dashboard exploit? Is that what you're saying? |
| QUOTE (brianforever @ Jul 29 2004, 01:34 PM) |
heheh yeah ironic isnt it
Its actually a XBE Expolit
So it shud be rename XBEE instead of UDE |
At least someone gets it.
(Irony - has that been exported from England yet?)
why would updating the MS dash stop the exploit, that's something i've never understood, i didn't think that the ude uses xboxdash.xbe

it doesnt, but when m$ update, they update any exploited files!, basically to stop exploits from working!
They replace the xboxdash.xbe sometimes/everytime (?) with an update.
Your exploited update.xbe renamed to xboxdash.xbe will be overwritten by this.

exactly adil
Thats where the Dual boot to Mini-linux comes in
But they havent done anything that extreme yet, not on my xbox they didnt |
so if they do an update to combat ude, will we still be able to load minilinux?, i dont think we can...
what happens then once you lose the ude, does the xbox just boot normally to the ms dash, or is it fucked?
| QUOTE (brianforever @ Jul 29 2004, 04:33 PM) |
Well I never thought of that part
Becos it never came to this yet
But I never had a Problem with Booting up the xbox with a GameSave Exploit yet on any thing that MS throws at Me
So I guess thats the Sure Fire Solution Atm |
Not if the game region is changed.
But that should be fine. You have the MechAssault NTSC-J, I have the MechAssault NTSC/PAL. We can just swap the game when needed
In fact, giving that these 8G/10G drive is now costing like peanuts(10 US a pop on ebay), it may be cheaper just bid one and clone an existing one as backup. So if MS does anything bad, just swap in the working one and use my little hotswap DVD tricks to fix it. This may be even cheaper than getting a game :-)
