XBOX V1
my bios 4034
my K 1.0.4979

This makes no sense...your saying your BIOS is 4034 and 4979...

If you meant that K is a D thats wrong too, there's no dashboard 4979...

Fix your info then I can help. And what error are you getting? A big "21" with MSs shitty "Only we can fix it now." screens?

I'm not seeing your bert ate ernie xtf in the root of the C:\ drive. Having it in the /fonts folder isn't enough. Make this addition and see how things work.

my addice to DIY(that is you can always gain access through game save, i.e. make sure the clock is properly set before you restore the dashboard or succeed) :

1. don't put the bert fonts in c:\fonts the first time, use orginal MS fonts there, I just rename the directory back and forth. This would tell you if update.xbe kicks in

2. turn on the blinkled(unfortunately, it is turned off in the compiled font) to ensure that the exploit kick it, the LED would be blinking red.

If both works, it would be just a matter of wrong XBE(wrong signing, wrong file etc.)

@dinodrew:
what is the size of your update.xbe ? yet another thought, it could be the XBMC. whatever in e:\default.xbe MUST BE HABIBI signed and I read that there is no way to sign XBMC.

@thinkz:

fonts in c:\fonts is more than enough

can I use PBL 1.3 to load xbmc?

thanks again
drew

not sure about PBL 1.3 but there is a number of PBL replacement now which seems to be better. Or you can use nkpatcher.

OK, new problem:

got phoenix v1.4 to load at boot,

from the screen:

Phoenix Bios Loader v1.4
Official Forums:  http://forums.maxconsole.com

Starting USB
Starting Hermes
Hermes_ConverterInstance
Hermes_ClearerInstance
Hermes_FormatNew
Could not load logo
Application died in an unhappy manor.  Press A to reboot.

SHould I place the logo file in root E:\

????
thanks
Drew

there are 3 new PBL replacements here on this forum, all better than PBL. I don't use any as I only use the exploit to load linux so can't help you further.  Basically, the exploit is working, it is now configuration of your choice of XBE(be it dash or bios loader or nkpatcher). Just make sure whatever in e:\default.xbe is habibi signed and you would be fine, in the future.

1) Use PBL Mentoo if your gonna use Phoenix. You need a Boot-From-Media BIOS (BFM) from the usual places for Phoenix to boot right.

Edit the BIOS you downloaded with XBtool to load your dashboard.

Or you could
2) Use NKPatcher, which needs no BIOS.

Edit: Oh yeah, your error 21 is that the files aren't signed (This is fixed by using NKPatcher or PBL) but if you just wanna sign them use EazSign found in my signature.

My logic tells me that I need to edit the 4979_67.bin file in the Bioses folder (I am working through this slowly).

Any hints?

Dude, look, delete all that PBL crap and install PBL Mentoo.

Whatever you did to your PBL it sounds like your running the old shitty versions...

Once your done that, download a BFM BIOS and edit it to load your dashboard (It however by default will load evoxdash.xbe off C:).

Once your done that name it xboxrom and stick 'er with the copy of PBL Mentoo.

You'll have to by the way, add RC4 keys to the PBL Mentoo boot.cfg script - can be taken from your current copy of Phoenix.

Sign PBL Mentoo with the habibi key, install it and your dashboard, and everything should then run fine with no signing.

I still fail to understand why people still want to use bios loader when nkpatcher is there. Just put it as e:\default.xbe then another dashboard as c:\evoxdash.xbe(I believe that is the default) and everything is done. No more BFM, no more RC4 key as all these are technically copyright infringement material that is not easy to find.

Lol, NKPatcher is copyright infringeful?

Anyhow if you wanna really load a BIOS, whatever, but NKPatcher i'd says the best for you.

Download NKPatcher,
Sign it with habibi,
Stick it as E:\default.xbe
Stick your XBMC in C and modify the XBE to evoxdash.xbe,
Bah dah...

edit: Probably XBtool doesn't support it? Get X2 4980 or something as they work fine for me. Or use NKPatcher..

RESULTS!

I got this to work at 1:30am last night.  Thank you for all your help, as many people and the boards really gave me some good tips.

My Xbox now Powers On>PBL>XBMC with NO BUTTON MASHING!.  It is my favorite thing ever!

I finally got XBTool to run (had to use Debug mode), modified the .bin PBL loads and it's golden!

If you haven't got XBMC running you are missing out!

Thanks again!  XS rules!
