You don't need it for backup games also. |
How would you do that? How can you get to the DVD?

You can not access an original DVD, but you can access a backed-up DVD.
So
1) you put the backup in the dvd tray
2) then via ftp you transfer all the files to your pc.
3) After that you sign everything with audio (or habibi or font) key.
4) And finally you burn a new dvd with the signed xbe's
The above does not work with originals (unless you can run PBL)

Surly if it's an original game DVD you simply boot it
Edit: That didn't help anyone did it.

| I have another question what if use dvd2xbox would I be able to access an original? |
There is no way to access an original without using PBL.
You can use dvd2xbox on backups and the sign the xbe's as I mentioned before.

huh?
I don't have this Kernel so I guess I'm missing something.
5530 can run all of the exploits - since it allows Dashboard downgrading, right? It's simply that the debug functions in the BIOS that PBL uses to load a BFM BIOS have been removed. So PBL don't work.
Surly you can use either UDE, font, audio, exploits, on a downgraded 4290 Dashboard to arrive at signed Evox with no Reset-on-Eject. Pop in your original DVD, use the Evox menu to launch a signed dvd2xbox from the HDD, and use it to copy the original DVD to the XBOX HDD (which is what dvd2xbox does isn't it?).

Yes you are missing something
When you try to access an original DVD with the original BIOS loaded the only thing you can see is a 10Mb .vob file with a video saying that you are an idiot and you put the DVD into your DVD player and not in your xbox
That's the major problem of all K:5530 users. We can not run PBL, so we stick to the original MS Bios and we can not have access to the track(?) that holds the data. |
I didn't know that. Just tried it. That vid looks cool.

Many thanks for the info. Didn't realize that. Me thinks it'd probably be easier to get an exploit to directly patch that media check (in RAM), than get PBL working on 5530 to load in a whole new BIOS.

It sounds like a good idea but I don't have the programming skills to do it. Though if someone wants to give it a try I am willing to test it.

That's weird
Have you tried to put the backup in a dvd player or a pc dvd? Is there any vob file?
If you try to boot the xbox with the backup in the drive do you get an error 21?
Maybe your xbox dvd-rom just can't read the media of the backup! Some xbox dvd roms prefer certain media (CD-RW for example). |
It is weird.
I tried to read the DVD on my laptop but it looks empty. I know for a fact there's a game on the dvd. I borrowed the game from a friend with a modded xbox (with a chip).
I'm gonna try it with another dvd and see what happens...
The little video is only present on retail discs and not on burned media

| exist some app for sign the xbe files, directly from the XBOX? |
xbedump was originally a Linux program. Linux runs on the XBOX.
http://cvs.sourcefor...-linux/xbedump/
but that only has -habibi for signing.
Anyone knows where I can find newer source that can also do audio or font signing ?
if i knew how to program id do it lol... *runs to library....*

I have been able to access an original using the doubledash, but it should work with any of the audio hacks as far as I understand them.
Startup - you should get the normal dashboard. Then insert the disk.
Wait for a couple of seconds (like 3 or 4) and before the game is launched, start the hack (with dd which is what I use you select the Xbox Live! tab)
It will freak out for a second. The screen went black, then flashed the original dash for a second then I got avalaunch (the dash I use.)
Disk is recognized as a game, not a DVD. Just finished copying Halo as a test.
As far as signing xbe's on the xbox, I am working on it. I have already gotten xbedump to run on the xbox, but it hangs (using a custom compiled version for DOS and bochs.) I am currently looking into using the xbox-linux live CD to do it, but its not completely finished yet. I will let the scene know if I have any success.
Update:
Still having some trouble with signing on the xbox, but haven't had a whole lot of time to do much. I may just end up porting the dang xbedump to the xbox, but that would be a last option.
Now i'm trying to find a way for the xbox to recognize larger harddrives without PBL.

Your answer about signing and larger harddisk lies in the nkpatcher.
