Verify it's correct : ls -l fonts/
That should work
Don't forget linux is Case Sensetive
I know its case sensitive... ok i tried that thing u told me to idots... it didnt work but when i added Xbox.xtf to fonts directory on my xbox where it has 2 other Xbox.xtf files... it worked when its in there and i can delete that file... the new Xbox.xtf that i added to the fonts directory and i added Xbox Book.xtf too and i can delete that too.. when i try to boot up my xbox to c if the xploit works.. it doesnt..
i kno its becuz of the mulitiple xtf files on the fonts folder but i cant delete it... is there a program for WINDOWS that i can use that well work...???
That's really strange. I would like to know the exact output from : ls -Al /xbox/fonts
Anyway - if it's a 'no such file or directory' problem then maybe you could try and remove the entire font-dir : rm -rf fonts
You should have a set of .xtf fonts in the root of C: and the xboxdash will be able to boot from these. If you manage to remove the fonts-dir you could restore it yourself (mkdir fonts, cp *.xtf fonts), or you could maybe even have Mechassault reinstall the dashboard and fonts-dir.
I tried that thing and it seems it doesnt work.
when i do the rm-rf fonts... it says that the directory has files in it and when i try rm -rf fonts/ ... it does that unbable to remove crap problem im having STILL.
when i typed in ls -al /xbox/fonts, i got all this stuff..
ls: /xbox/fonts/Xbox Book.xtf: No such file or directory
ls: /xbox/fonts/david: No such file or directory
ls: /xbox/fonts/deletemeplz No such file or directory
total 80
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 16384 Mar 27 19: 55.
drwxr-xr-x 16 root root 16384 Jan 1 1970..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 80 Mar 27 10: 44 Xbox Book.xtf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 80 Mar 27 10: 44 Xbox Book.xtf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 80 Mar 27 10: 44 Xbox.xtf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 80 Mar 27 10: 44 Xbox.xtf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 80 Mar 27 10: 44 Xbox.xtf
where the file david and deletemeplz, those were just renamed files of the fonts exploits xtf's... after i renamed them, i couldnt delete them also.
So what seems to be the problem??? If theres only a rm command that can delete folders and files in it while ignoring that error.
But i was thinking about something. I have a backup of my xbox hdd on my comp and i was wondering if theres a program besides hdd driver or fatxplorer that well allow me to load my xbox hdd so i can just restore the bin??
oh yeah... by the way... im using a cd to add the font exploits... i just use magic iso.. open up xlinux and add an xbox folder.. then i just add the files i want
after that i mount my cd drive... hope that might help..
Hmmm - you must be doing something wrong! You should be able to remove the font files.
But try this. Verify that you have the original font files in the root of C:
Then :
Reattach you drive to the xbox and reboot. Renaming the fonts-dir the xbox should look in the root of C: for the original font files. Therefore be sure you have those here.
Also do you hotswap to get your PC to detect you xbox drive or is the xbox HD unlocked. If it's unlocked you do remember to relock it before plugging it back in the xbox right ?
If this works you can try to use a game save hack to load evox and remove and restore the C:/fonts folder from Slayers. The fonts you mention are the original fonts.
Ok... i tried it and it didnt work.. but there was no error... it was like it worked but when i ls the xbox hdd... theres still fonts there...
when i go into fonts folder and try and delete the files manually... i type in this command.
rm -r Xbox.xtf
i get that error where no such file or directory
rm -R Xbox.xtf
i get that error where no such file or directory
rm -f Xbox.xtf
I GET NO ERROR but.. i check whats in it and its still there..
wonder whats the problem??
its weird i had that problem too. (files i couldnt remove.) i just left them there
If u leave em there... then ur xbox wont be able to boot up... duh!! lol
unless u have modded xbox
Well take it step by step. When you execute one command, verify that it worked. When you : mv fonts fonts_save, does that work? You say there is no error, so does 'ls -l' show you that the fonts folder has been renamed to fonts_save?
If so then check that you have a set of fonts (Xbox.xtf, Xbox Book.xtf) in the root of the xbox hd (ls -l /xbox).
And did you relock your hd before you reattach it to you xbox ?
Forget about the relocking of the drive - that was only if you didn't hotswap but had unlocked the drive before you hook it up to your PC.
No difference really between 'ls' and 'ls -l'. Both commands makes a list - the 'ls -l' list just gives more information, 'ls -Al' would give even more information like if one of the Xbox.xtf was a symbolic link.
When you mount your xbox C-drive on mount-point /xbox (by doing 'mount -t fatx /dev/hda51 /xbox), the font files you should have are :
/xbox/Xbox.xtf
/xbox/Xbox Book.xtf
/xbox/fonts/Xbox.xtf
/xbox/fonts/Xbox Book.xtf
As I said if the ones in the fonts-folder are not there or the fonts-folder is missing, xboxdash will use the ones in the root of the C-drive (/xbox). That's why I suggested the 'mv fonts fonts_save' command.
Don't know what you are doing wrong. I just had an old xbox-drive hooked up to my pc and accessed it with linux. I had no problem renaming, moving or deleting files or folders.
- I would like to have a go at this.
But anyways - is this your stock harddrive? Do you have another xbox harddrive or access to a friends? Then you could restore your C-drive, and I mean not by replacing files, because it sounds like your filesystem is messed up, but by dumping an image of a C-drive onto you HD.
The xbox-linux guys have a mkfs.fatx tool. A tool to make a fatx file system on a device. I have just downlaoded it and compiled it. I will test my theory and report back.
My idea was to use this tool to create a new fatx filesystem on /dev/hda51 - thereby cleaning the xbox C-drive. Then I would mount this clean C-drive and copy the system files back from a backup of Slayers.
Let you now how it goes.
BTW. A chip will always get you back on track.
Hi there. Reporting back from my experiments. It worked! I actually rebuild a working xbox harddrive from scratch using only a backup of my system-files. I wrote up a tutorial on how to do this :
Building xbox HD
Now you dont need to go through all of this in your case - and you dont need your eeprom either.
You can hotswap your drive to the secondary master of your PC and do what's in the last paragraph of the above tutorial. Just ask if I'm not clear enough.
try this
mkdir /xbox
mount -t fatx /dev/hda51 /xbox
mount /dev/hdc /cdrom (this is yer slayers install)
cd /xbox/fonts
rm -r *
cd /cdrom/system/all/c/fonts
cp * /xbox/fonts
cd /
umount -all
stick drive back in box and see what happens...
hope this helps.
