Nope, it was stuffed without a modchip or an exploit, and I fixed it without either too.

Hey there.  I've got error 16 on both my hard-drives (original with evox installed and a 120gig Maxtor).  Do you guys have any ideas on how to fix this?  I do not have backup copies on my computer's hd.  I've tried hotswapping my original hd in but it won't load in HDD Driver.  The Maxtor does load and I have changed the orginization of the files in there many times with no success.  Can someone tell me what an original hd should look like?  All I really need to know is what the MS Dash was called.  Thanks.

if you are looking for the original dashboard and stuff from the original hd, I suggest you find Slayer prep disk.  In that disk, there is a copy of the original ms dashboard that you can use to rebuild your broken hd.  do that, you can use xlinux or whatever choice you choose to copy the files over to the right partition.

QUOTE

1.) with both my pc and xbox off, UNplug the xbox power cable from the xbox hdd and PLUG in a PC power cable to your xbox hdd <-- makes sense , the xbox hdd needs power ... either from the xbox itself or the PC

2.) turn on your computer and press pause/break right before you get to the drive detection stage <-- also makes sense , this step is needed for hotswapping

3.) UNplug the pc power cable from your xbox hdd and plug back in your xbox power cable to the hdd <--  doesn`t make any sense at all (to me) , xbox hdd will be powered down when the plug is pulled and after that it will be powered up when you plug in the xbox powerplug again -->>> nonsense

Or did I miss anything here ? I don't think so.

Im sure your meant to leave the hdd plugged into the pc power cable so it has power all the time.

Ok i have 2 xboxes right now. One is my original one and is working fine. the second i got 4 days ago from a friend, i bought it for 20 bucks cuz he was going to throw it out. It has a service error 16 and ive pin pointed it down to a dash board currupt file or something like that. Niether of the 2 xboxes are modded or even attempted at being modded before i pulled it all apart they had never been open.

What i wanna know is how i can fix this broken xbox. Id really rather a cheaper way of doing this but please feel free to explain a more expensive way. I've heard that if  i was to perchase a solderless modchip i could plug it in and then hotswap the hd with my PC and use some slayer dashboard thing and get it back its old running self. Is this true?, is this the best method? Could i just make a back up of my working xbox's HD and then restore the broken one with the backed up working one?

Please help. I really wanna get this second xbox running for my cousin. Please leave any links that could help me in the right direction.

Thanks Alot

Ok thanks for the reply ddaddy. I wanted to test if my broken xbox's hd even unlocked so i turned it on without a cd and left it for bout 20 mins. I came back and it had still not even down spinned. Is there another way to unlock the hd?

OR, you could hotswap your WORKING xbox hard drive to your computer and use hdd drive to make a backup of your drive, then turn off your computer, put back together your working xbox, swap the broken xbox hdd into your comp and use hdd driver to use the backup of your hard drive and put it on the broken one.  Simple no modding or anything.

Yep, I've taken a hard drive with error 16, unlocked it in the xbox using the above method, and fixed it by restoring it using a backup on my PC.

Also if i have a error code 16 when exactly is my hdd unlocked. While the xbox intro is playing or when the logo is showing or when.
