Title: Hacking Your 1.4/1.5 With Hotswap Technique
Post by: compunerd632 on December 30, 2003, 10:21:00 AM
I just got an Xbox and I'm trying to mod it with the audio exploit.  It is definitely 1.4 or 1.5 because I can see the Focus chip.  I followed this tutorial, but instead of HDDriver I used Xlinux.  I have everything copied to where it's supposed to be, but PBL is not working.  I get a black screen that is scrambled.  At the top it says USB and just under that it says "en file F:boot.cfg".  I'm not sure if the F is an F or a P as some other people have said.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Also there is some sort of text at the bottom of the screen, but I can't read it.  All the jpg files are copied over like they should be and I have tried both the cd combo and the cd-less combo.  All get me to that black scrambled screen.  I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Edit: I fixed my own problem.  For some reason PBL 1.3.5i did not work.  I downloaded the older 1.3 and installed it and the box booted fine.  Hopefully this will help out some other people.

if you get the max 100 soundtracks error you messed up the audio exploit. just recopy st.db to the xbox harddrive and dont mess up the button combo again

OK for everybody who is getting a P:bioses..... error i have a fix well it worked for me i used the Xecuter2.4979_bfm_REPACK.rar from the usual places
and i used 4979.67_bfm_256k.bin(the file size on my comp said 1mb(1024) but it says 256 but it works with it being 1024)
and since xbtool would not open the bios i just put evoxdash.xbe in the C: drive and all its necessary files(skins trainers evox ini
now go try the audio exploit and it should work

@Pentium: Thanks for the tips.  This solved my p:bios problem as well.  I've got a 1.4/1.5 xbox (Sept 03, I think; 4920/5101).

I was further able to relocated the evox install directory and further modify the xecuter bios by doing the following.

In the xbtoolConfig folder, move "multi.ini" to "More Configs" and move "More ConfigsDebug.ini" back to xbtoolConfig.
Edit the Debug.ini and copy the RC4 key from boot.cfg (from PBL1.3.5i_signed_audio_exploit) to the RC4_Key= line.

Then, you should be able to open and edit 4979.67_bfm_256k.bin, and start evox from e:evox as described in this tutorial.

What I don't understand is what is the difference between 4979.67_bfm_256k.bin and 4979.67_256k.bin, and how does one get from one version to the other.

Copying debug.ini to the Configs folder is good, but you don't have to move multi.ini from the configs folder. You select the active config file from the BIOS Type drop-down.

i did this technique and now i'm kind of stumped.  I can now load evox but its through the cd copy thing.  Is this how i'm always supposed to load it?  Also my evox dashboard only has a few options MS Dashboard(which doesn't work), reboot, settings(which only has the network settings), and power off.  Is this normal?  What am I supposed to do from here?  Thanks in advance.

If you 'cd copy thing' is the audio hack, then yes, that's the way you're going to startup evox everytime.
You probably have an earlier evox version or a stripped down version. Try evox build 3935.

Anyone tried this method with PBL v1.3?

Is Audio exploit the only one which will work with v1.4/1.5 or will fonts exploit work too?

thank you,
Caio

wont work with PBLv1.3 for xbox versions 1.4and1.5.  font will work for 1.4/5.

I did exactly what you said, copied all things to E:, but nothing actually happened. The box played as it was untouched. what's going on?

I also have a doubt here. You did not use any PBL here, how came the system can load teh feenix dashboard?

the audio hack requires you to go through some keypresses before it runs the exploit. doesnt load up right away like the font exploits.

Does this work on a 10-20-03 or later box?  Whats the latest mfg date you guys have got this to work?  Also when I load the hd driver I do not see any drive letters.  I have had to do the work around fatx thing to get hd-driver to run.  Is E:  the system drive?  and which drive is P:?
Title: Hacking Your 1.4/1.5 With Hotswap Technique
Post by: pinkani on January 13, 2004, 09:32:00 PM
Seems like it does not depend on the mfg date but the version of the kernel that is shipped. There are various production lines and factories where xboxes are made.

C: is the system drive.
D: is the DVD ROM drive
E: is the space where music and gamesave and stored
F: available only in modded sets
G: available only in modded sets

There are another three drives that are for caching.

Well, i've spent 3 days from 10pm-4am each night, constantly reading through these posts on this thread. Have gotton all the files, did exactly what instructions said, checking each step 4-5 times. Starting over, doing it again to make sure. And each time i get the stupid "max 100 soundtracks error you messed up the audio exploit" message. I have a v1.5 XBox, and i have tried to delete the ST.DB file and copy it back into the directory again, entered the keys in order, and still get the same "max 100 soundtracks error you messed up the audio exploit" message. Is it really possible to do this with 5101 dashboard and a v1.5 machine or what??? I can't believe it is right now.
I've done this over and over and no success. I've even got the Audio_Signed_Bios_Loader.RAR file, where you just have to copy everything from the e stuff, and c stuff, and that also does the EXACT same thing. I'm feeling pretty much that ist's NOT possible. I only WISHED i had the error 21 screen. I would at least feel i'm getting somewhere that way at least.
Doing the 007-memory card exploit using my friends modded system works great the 1st time i tried it (that's what i use to ftp everything.) works like a charm. I'm trying to get this exploit working cause my 007 game is due back at the rental store in about 7 days (game pass). I should be getting my XBit mod chip in any day now, but i would've liked to get the audio expoit working on my v1.5-dash5101 machine, so i can do this to my brothers machine (bought exact same unit.)

Could anyone maybe help out here with any advice please?? Thank you. I've only had my xbox fro about 2 weeks now, but because of my friends modded xbox, i've been reading the shit out of forums and exploits for a while now, and been also trying them for 5 days straight myself using my all off work time, so i'm not quite close to a newbie with this stuff.

Help please???? Thanx

OK guys, I am having issues.
I tried the tutorial and all I got was a black screen with some colorful lines on the top of the screen. I figured out it had something to do with the Focus chipset. So, I got PBL 1.4 Signed by Yoshigiro. I also got the 4981.67 bios. Wow, got past the black screen. Now I get the Phoenix. I press to pick the xboxrom.bin and it got to a Red Splash screen where it sayd Linux V1.4 by Yoshihiro. It just sits there. If I hit the A button it takes me back to a black screen with some text on it. The last line says Calculating 2bl entry point and it just sits there. How far am I from getting this to work?

I used the audio_sl_audio-key exploit 51KB from 9/11/2003
Saved it into E:\TDATA\fffe0000\music

I used the 4981.67_256k.bin from 1/20/2004
I loaded it into XBTool_1.0.22 and turned on the BFM flag.
Changed the 2nd xbe to point to e:\evox\evoxdash.xbe
Saved it as xboxrom.bin into the E:\bioses

used xbedump default.xbe -audio on the default.xbe that came with the PBL1.4 by Yoshihiro.

Renamed the out.xbe into linux.xbe and put it in e:\ along with boot.cfg
Copied the rest of the 1.4 PBL files into e:\

Thanks

K

p.s. Dash is 4920 and Kernel is 5101.  Board is V1.5 with Focus Chip. The drives don't show up as c and e in hdddriver. They show up as system and user_data but looking at the subdirectories they look like what the c and e are supposed to look like.

Miyada, I did as you said but I used the key from the 1.4QuickBoot PBL signed
and I get this error:
Kernel extraction failed. See log file for more information.
The log says:
Loading ROM image file 'C:\XBOX\4981.67_bfm_fixed\4981.67_bfm.bin'...
Extracting 2BL image...

I must be missing something.

aight  i've got a 5530 box, focus chip, and everything specified except i used 007 to get into the hd. The audio hack works perfect, loads pbl 1.3.5i and gets to the screen after the blurred animation, where it starts going through the eeproms and rc4 key. Then it locks up at  "2bl entry point" and it doesn't move...

Any ideas on why its doin this

I tried some other stuff like changing the debug to true...
And does "PBL 1.3.5i_signed_audio_exploit" rc4 key or eeproms need to be changed to xbox specific or debug...or is that key debug...

Any ideas, please please post

Hey.. this is my tutorial on Hacking your way into an 1.4/1.5 with Hotswap
with clean exploits (No Gamesave..). Its also possible thru
FTP access to your Xbox, but for that you will need to have your Xbox
modded or exploited already..
(This exploit is going to be using the AUDIO Hack..)
If i made any mistakes in this Tutorial, or you have suggestions,
please reply smile.gif

Your Brains
Your 1.4/1.5 Xbox
An Computer with the following Apps:
PBL1.3.5i_signed_audio_exploit
XBtool_1.0.12.b4
Xecuter2.4979_REPACK
audio_sl_audio-key (Allows both Swapless and AudioCD Combo..)
Hdd Driver
An EvoX Version of your choise

Step 1
Open up your XBox  And start it without any game.. Let it run for
about 10 minute so the Harddisk spins down, and then turn on your PC..
BEFORE the HDD's/CDRom Drives get detected, press PauseBreak.. Now,
Plugin the IDE Cable of pc into your XBox Harddisk (NOT the Powercable,
only the IDE Cable..). Press enter and if you are lucky, it detects
the xbox harddisk.. If not, search around on the forum for some more
information about the Hotswapping..

Step 2
Once your PC Is started with a detected Xbox Harddisk, start up HDD Driver..
You'll probally get alot of Error's, just Ignore them. Now, once your
in the HDD Driver, backup your XBox Harddisk in it (If you dont know
how, also check the forums for more information!).
After that, get the PBL1.3.5i_signed_audio_exploit.rar Unpacked,
change default.xbe to linux.xbe and upload them to your e: drive
(also the empty folder Bioses.. and upload them all the same way
they came out of the package! else it will fail..)
Now for the Bios.. Extract the Xecuter2.4979_REPACK, open the 4979.67.bin
bios (name should be similair to that) and turn on the 'BFM Flag'.
Also in XBTool, you can change the Xbox logo color's to your own (Just for fun wink.gif)
Also, change your evoXdash.xbe drive to e: and the next to that, fill in evoxevoxdash.xbe
(Thats we're we going to install EvoX..) Now save the bios and name it :
xboxrom.bin and put it in E:bioses ..
Now unpack your audio exploit, and upload the ST.DB file to e:tdatafffe0000music
And last but not least, copy your EvoX files to e:evox.. Turn
of your pc, plug out the ide cable of your pc from your xbox hardisk
and plug in the Xbox IDE Cable..

okay everything is set up now smile.gif Start up your Xbox without
any game, put in an audio cd, press B-Down-A-Right-Right-A-A-A and you
will get the the Phoenix Screen.. If its all scrambled, dont be affraid,
just wait, EvoX will load, nonscrambled smile.gif

Thanks to the resources on Xbox Scene forum for getting me so far smile.gif

Ive been looking at the bert n ernie hotswap thing but people tell me audio exploit is WAY WAY better.. but now you tell me I need 1.4/1,5?

also when starting HDDdriver it tells me MFC42D.DLL cant be found so I'd have to use xlinux or fix HDD driver

AFAIK just some of the "beast pack" ones.

Man, your Harddrive swapping technique is way overcomplicated.

Easiest way to swap a HD:
1. turn xbox on with original HD still attached.
2. Unplug IDE cable from HD.
3. Plug PC IDE cable in.
4. Turn on the PC.

That's it, no waiting 10 minutes until drive spins down (although I would suggest you wait until the dashboard fully loads) and no Pause/Break key mashing.

I've done it this way on many XBOX's from v1.0 to v1.5 and have never had any damage to the Harddrive.

As for everything else, looks good... Now it's time to upgrade that original XBOX Harddrive.

Okay i followed these directions to a T and im still having problems. I boot up do the button combo get pheonix to load up and when it loads there is no scrambling at all of the picture.  I then get a bunch of text ( i dont hit a to skip) saying all that stuff about r4 key etc and then it detects my console as a 1.1. Now i know its not a 1.1 as it is a new combo system just bought.  Anyways theres a bunch more text about patching blah and then it hangs and does nothing.  If i do hit a to goto menu i get a pheonix screen with xbox.bin in the centre i hit a and i get the same black screen.   Any help would be greatly appreciated

Also i forgot to mention when its loading it says its loadin p:bioses/xbin.xbe is this normal? cause the P: drive is throwing me off.

I may be a complete idiot, running on very little sleep so this may be common sense. anyway, how do you make folders using HDD_Driver? I used fat-x-plorer to add the DIRs but hdd driver cant read em. help?

Edit: I also cant seem to get this to work. phoenix loader boots up, but then sits there on a scrambled black screen. i can't read anything, really, except something about p:/bioses/xboxrom.bin

I am having the same trouble, scrambled screens on loading phoenix, then a mention of a P: drive which doesnt exist and it lockes up and is still scrambled. I have a brand new XBOX, and am using the 007 exploit to FTP in to the HD to copy the files, so I know they have transferred well. I have a brand new XBOX holiday pack I just got, never expected this much trouble with it, had no problem with the 5 other boxes I've done. Any ideas how to make this one go?

Btw: I don't have the file "items.txt" among my PBL files. Does it matter ?

I also cannot find the "PBL1.3.5i_signed_audio_exploit" exploit at xbins. I've searched the whole ftp but it seemed not to be there.

Where can I get this exploit ?

When you unpack the Xecuter2.4979_REPACK.rar, what file do you edit with xbtool?

I used 4979.67_256k.bin.
Is this the right one to edit?
Do i save this as 256k or 1mb?

My xbox is the StarWars/Tetris pack.  I just bought it a little over a month ago.
I am also getting the "P:Biosesxboxrom.bin" error through a scrambled screen.
the scrambled screen also says something about EEPROM.

Any suggestions?

@ mtnsrfr180: since you have the "starwars/tetris pack" it almost has to be a v1.4-1.5 xbox (use the version check in the tutorial section to confirm this) these boxes use a 256k bios so thats what you have to output it as in xbtool.

now for my question: i've been trying to get the hotswap working for a whole day now. first, i couldnt get the windows hdd drive to detect the drive at all. finally, (with some help) i realized i had to do the swap faster. now, hdd driver finds the xbox harddrive. BUT, whenever i try to "insert file" the program gives me an error (which I expected from the tutorial) and it crashes! (i tried pressing retry, ignore, and abort -- all caused the driver to crash.) i have windows xp with .net installed. can anyone help me please?

It seems the PBL 1.3.5i files are rather hard to locate.

With a bit of time I located required files here "x-b-o-x DOT net "
Also they are tucked away on #XBINS FTP -> XBOX - Bios - Bios Tools....

Im going to attempt this on a mates new beast pack, using hot swap CDRW with my chipped xbox.
I hope it works. Seems a damn lot easier than using the windows hdd driver.

Good luck to everyone else.

K:1.00.5101.01 D:1.00.4920.01
I get error 21 as well...

This might help some of you, I fixed my problem :
I was using
PBL1.3.5i_signed_font_exploit.zip
instead of
PBL1.3.5i_signed_audio_exploit.zip
that was it.

I think I've got everything working correctly. To unlock the drive, I start the xbox without any cds in it. When I'm at the menu, I go to Memory then Xbox. After it shows me what's on the hard drive, I wait a couple of minutes then hot-swap it with the PC. Then I turn the PC on, load up windows, and HDD Driver finds the drive just fine.

My problem now is trying to make the "Bioses" directory for the PBL exploit... Does anyone know how to create directories within HDD Driver?

You can rename directories with HDD_Driver by right-clicking on them and selecting properties.

Also there is a program you can use for creating directories called Fat-X-Plorer.  It's also more reliable for copying files.

biggrin.gif also, you cant find out your XBOX version without opening it up. you dont need to really find out what version you have, just use the M7 bios and you will be safe smile.gif

The xbox boots to the dash and works perfectly fine, so I know the HDD isn't dead, but I don't know what to do really, short of removing ALL files I added in Xlinux and trying again...

Any suggestions? BTW, I know for sure the box is a 1.4/1.5 because it was bought with the Tetris Attack/Star Wars/Mech Assault bundle.

It has a kernal 5101 dash 4920 and a mfg date of October 20th, 2003.

What to do... what to do... sad.gif  ph34r.gif
