1] Slayers does NOT lock the HD. You can easily confirm this with the Config Magic disk.
2] As soon as you swap HD's, any subsequent actions will freeze up other than navigating the menu.
3] There is a risk to hardware attempting this "supposed" technique.
Even if you use Slayers on a hard modded xbox to prepare the drive, it does not appear to prepare the drive properly. I've tried it and used hddlock using the lock code from the backup file. It DOESN'T WORK!

first get the following:
xbox plugged into the internet (any version) the xbox needs to have an exploit installed that boots into pheonix bios loader... that has to load a bios that supports hdd upgrades
hdd (thanks to new hacks up to about 300gb)
torx screw set
slayer's evox auto installer
the pheonix project font exploit
cd/dvd rw
1.first make sure your xbox is soft modded
2.burn the newest slayer's evox auto installer to dvd/cd rw
3.open your xbox and take out the hdd but don't unplug it (http:/
/xbox-scene.com/articles/open1.php)
4.load up an exploit with reset on eject patched
5.insert the cd/dvd rw with slayer's evox auto installer on it that
you just burned
6.load up slayer's evox auto installer
7.press a on "3) rebuild new larger hd on v1.x system"
8. go to the first option
9. disconnect the xbox hard drive and connect your new hdd to the xbox with the ide and power cables
10.now press A
11.go to main menu then "11) system settings"
12.make sure all the settings are correct, take a note of your ip
adress, then ftp to your xbox user Xbox pass xbox
13.apply the pheonix project fonts exploit (or another exploit booting into pheonix)
NOTES: Make sure to leave your crossover cable connected or have a way of reapplying the game save/audio exploit
through the process. I have the save on my computer but I can't transfer it because the network cable wasn't connected when I started the whole procedure. (help from mouse01)

Requirements:
MS Dash: 4920
Slayers 2.5
New Hardrive
Modded Xbox
Steps:
1) Boot into EvolutionX
2) Put in Slayers 2.5 and run it
3) Go to #3 in the menu, and select it
4) Select the first option
5) Open XBox, and remove harddrive
6) Plug in new hardrive
7) Press A in Slayer's.
8) Now wait. It should work

How can this be?? Even after plugging back my original hdd i can't write to that one either.

btw, i had bert and ernie reloaded already installed.
so newayz, i went into evox then pop in slayers, launch dvd.
switch the hdds.
then go to option 6)format options.
go to where it says full clean format of large hd, select that.
then when its done formatting, i just went to the settings to get the ip info, used flashfxp to ftp into it.
then i copied my backed up c and e drive accordingly.
then go into slayers option 8) eeprom/hd management
then go to lock drive.
voila
dont forget to edit your evox.ini to recognize the g drive if your hdd is bigger than 137 gb
and you need to create the games and apps folders in f drive. other than that it was easy.
btw i also am able to get to the ms dash as well. just the way that i set it up

i used a maxtor 200 gb to upgrade. but should work for ne recently new hdd.
and if you have the money go modchip.

If it does read it, the rest is a breeze.
Maybe you want to add this to the tutorial.
Make sure to leave your crossover cable connected or have a way of reapplying the game save/audio exploit
through the process. I have the save on my computer but I can't transfer it because the network cable wasn't connected when I started the whole procedure.
My friend has my 007 disc and memory card, I'll need them to reapply the audio exploit.
Also make sure to go into settings and note the new IP address settings.

I thought it was too simple too when a friend brought it to my attention, but decided to try and i'm
glad i did. I just swapped the old xbox hd with an 80gb maxtor.

I think it should definitely be a sticky. It's virtually effortless.
Some older boxes with Thompson drives might have trouble reading
the cdrw. Mine was ok, my friend is having difficulty with his.

I got a Thompson drive and I had to try 2 or 3 times before it would read my Memorex CD-RW. If it dont work, try try try again.... Unless u got a bad burn.

i have phillips and it read my memorex cd-rw like a charm, no dummy files needed...i poped in slayers when evox was loaded and it says "Evox CD!"
meaning it worked....
now i just need to find a hard drive.......

Everyone Else: i heard somewhere on these forums that the EEPROM u get from the backup feature only works on locking and unlocking on the ORIGINAL HDD and u needed to use some program to use ur old eeprom to generate a new eeprom for ur new hdd? if that's not true all i do is use slayers and put in my eeprom from evox? then it'll lock?

This is normal when you ftp with EvoX. Is it not? Or did I miss your point you were trying to make? D "partition" is your dvd drive.

Heh. Let me try to explain. You SOFTmod your xbox (meaning using exploits like audio, font, 007, etc) to boot to evox. This will allow u to run unsigned code, like Slayer. Using your "softmod EvoX", you load Slayer's EvoX. Then follow the tutorial, and SUPPOSELY it works. But as you can see, people are having problems and we arent getting much feedback. So I hope that helps.

no because ur removing ur old hard drive with all the exploits and stuff, putting in a new one and formatting

Also check www.fatwallet.com forums for some great deals on hd's. I got my WD 120 gb 8mb cache, 7200 rpm for only $40 after jumping through a lot of hoops and rebates. But hey it was worth it. Only thing is that my particular model wasn't lockable, but I'm chipped anyways so it don't matter too much. Good luck on this tutorial guys. I just modded my friend's 1.5 with audio exploits and I bet this tutorial will come in handy when he wants to upgrade. Just wish that there was more concensus as to the validity of the method.

Select the NEW HDD u will use
NOTE THE PASSWORD! THEN, create an image using norton ghost of your old Stock HDD (xbox original) ThEN...take that image and use it to clone your New HDD...or just simply clone your old to your new...then! LOCK YOUR NEW HDD with the password that you took in the steps above...put it in your x-box
With evox format F partition if your new HD is <137 GB...If its bigger format the G also...

he couldn't change the ip. there was no 'save and exit' in evox. when he rebooted it was the black screen of death.

anyone got a way of getting correct EEPROM? the one evox gives me doesn't work, i tried opening eeprom.bin using liveinfo and taht one didn't work (or i did something wrong).....so does anyone have a program i use while having FTP acces to xbox and then get EEPROM taht way?

so now u don't have to unlock the stock hard drive, just use winhex to clone it, uhmm i'm not sure how to get EEPROM for new hdd using liveinfo (or at all in that case) so somehow do that, lock new hdd, tada...
remember YOU MUST LOCK THE NEW HARD DRIVE IF U HAVE NO MOD CHIP or else it won't work because u don't have a bios loading to avoid unlocked hdds...cuz PBL loads after hdd is detected...
however on a modchip if ur harddrive is unlocked it will work just not on MS dash...
SOMEONE TEST THIS PLEASE! I MYSELF HAVE NOT TESTED THE THEORY OF NOT UNLOCKING IT WITH EEPROM!

but just my computer is really weird cuz i'll have to disconnect everything i have in my comp for this stuff to work and i'm too lazy to do that because all my IDEs are filled...
i guess i'll do that on my friend's computer but he has an emachine...in other words a piece of shit u call a bios and i'm not sure if it'll work the same way with the hard drive detection and crap
