i was thinking about this this morning... but is the cmos battery 9v?
and
the reason i am doing a soft mod is it aint my xbox and i dun wanna open it because it isn't and plus i cant really get a chip since i have no creditcard, paypal or other method of payment...

oh, another thing you can do is hook ur xbox to a cheap 20 dollar ups... and for travel, open it up and clip the speaker out! what an idea! (i thought of this today, i am not taking credit if it has been done/posted before)

if anything, the cmos battery would be 3.3v... not 9... that would fry it! lol

so add a bunch of resistors, and you're set right?

why not just buy a 3.3v battery? unsure.gif

then you got to get a new 3.3v every so often + they expensive, so y not make a cord with a 9v connector on th end and have it hanging out of the case, you can check the battery power left, before you move it or once a week or what ever and replace it accordingly...

its not that big... its a 9v not a  d or what ever... one of the small rectangular ones. you can electical tape the battery to the back and nobody knows biggrin.gif

i hate to be the one to break it to everyone in this thread, but there is no battery, thats the problem. there is a cap that slowly discharges keeping the cmos alive while the xbox is unplugged. the problem is that it only lasts a few hours. replacement with a battery has ben discussed b4 and there is the most obivous problem of the board trying to charge the battery thinking that it is the cap still. this would not be good.

good thinking! now how the heck we gonna do that?!

i realize the cmos is 3.3v, and i was hoping that everyone else would too so that i could leave out having to explain stepping the voltage down smile.gif

but seriously, if you could step down the voltage really low and feed it into the cap to keep it up, i dont see why it wouldnt work...if anyone knows something i dont, please inform!

*edit*

and the 9v is like a box of matches...im sure it could fit somewhere in the massive black doorstop that is the xbox case smile.gif

.....now rechargeable batteries with a mechanism that prevented overcharging and explosion and was integrated into the current capacitors charging circuit would be a worthwhile project.
