I posted this in another thread but nobody followed-up.
For those that cannot run Complex !Loader...
You can play backups already burned to CDRW/DVDR etc., that are not signed with font key, with bert and ernie with just evox.
What you do is just extract the default.xbe on PC, sign with the font key and ftp it to a folder on xbox in say E:
Then you make a menu item for that xbe in evox and use the ID_No_D_Mount option.
You boot up with bert and ernie to evox. Make sure that the launch game setting is set to No. Then put in DVD and it says "game". Then run the modified xbe off HDD. It uses the ID_No_D_Mount option so it preserves the D: drive and does not mount the xbe folder on the HDD as D:
Note: for some reason when you FTP to evox it does not see the D: drive, but it does recognize in Xbox itself. Also it seems to recognize original Xbox DVD as video.
Alternatively, like others explain, you can build a new ISO with the default.xbe signed, but if you already have ISO burned this is easier and the xbe themselves don't take up much drive space on E:
