Title: Ide Cable
Post by: mt80 on October 08, 2004, 11:24:00 PM
I damaged my IDE cable the other day.  So I bought a new one and installed it but it doesn't work properly.  After fooling around with it for a while I finally got the xbox to work by switching my hard drive to master.  The only problem is my dvd drive doesn't work now.  Anybody know a solution to this or if I can be pointed in the direction of an original xbox IDE cable.

Thanks

k..
 the way it works is.
now that uv made your harddrive a master. you need to make your dvd a slave,
check to c if theres any jumpers on the back of it .
and if there is ... u may have to take it off to make it a slave drive

I have the Phillips DVD drive.  Their are two pins that are possibly jumpers, but I don't know what configuration to use and I tried putting a regular two pin jumper such as the ones hard drives use and the dvd drive made a weird noise.  So I'm kinda stuck unless anyone knows exactly how to make it a slave.

My DVD drive has no jumpers unless i need to remove the metal plating to see it.

Put your harddrive back to cable select, as this is how they all are.

Verify you cable connection, as some cables are direction aka the longest piece of wire to one end has one end at it this plugs into the xbox itself, and hopefully your new cable has a little tabe that must sit in one direction if not you will need to use teh red wire and put it on side of pin1 on xbox ide connection.

Then use middle connection for dvd drive, and allign red wire to pin 1 as well, then last cable same thing for harddrive.
