Restore the Xbox to original. Get Krazie's Ndure 1.1.1 to softmod with. You are using an older exploit.
-
No, the Krayzie gamesave fits on an 8MB card....... have another look.
-
I used C-restore ( in Ltools) on the original 8GB hard drive and rebooted the get the xbox needs service notice. I have the eeprom file saved and have Slayers install disk and Krazie's Ndure. Will Slayers work to rebuild the original hard drive? Then I can start over with Krazie's Ndure. I think I have the HD password for the 8GB drive from a photo off the TV when I was using LTOOLs earlier. I also have HDmaker. Maybe its a case where the HD isn't locked? I know that is a error that you get when the drive isn't locked. I know the HD passcode is generated from the serial number of the drive and the eeprom. Just trying to find the easiest way of getting this up and going without making a huge mistake( or did I already make one?)
Thanks again

Well I got the original 8 GB HDD back to where I was in the first post. The hard drive was locked! I unlocked it with the tools on HDmaker using a floppy. Then used my HDmaker disk to restore the C -Drive.
Now the question is how to restore to original dash - C-restore in Ltools - that didn't work. Should I use
the UXE Unistall???
Or should I FTP in a new dash?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance - this is kinda fun but its not easy for me either.

Ok used Slayer Auto Installer to rebuild original 8 GB drive and It worked!
Installed Krazies Ndure MA softmod and not sure if I should do minimum install or basic install.
-
Update: Did the "basic" install of Evolution . Working great - Evolution loads when the power button is pressed or the DVD tray is opened. Coping files from C and E and N drives over to pc. Then off to Xboxhd maker for the HD upgrade to 250GB.
Anyone know where to put the XBMC files before I burn the iso? Is it still under E\dashboard?
-
I don't know why but I'm having trouble getting XBMC to load. I Put the files in the DASHBOARD folder under E when making the xboxhd maker iso disc. I put the 250GB drive back in the xbox and started it and I get the original xbox dashboard with the power button and tray button.
I'm making a new iso for the 250GB drive that will be the same as the original 8gb drive in which Evolution X loaded as the dashboard. Ok - did that and the 250 GB HD also loads the original xbox dash.
I can load up ULeash X if I put in Mech Assault and load the Linux game save. I can FTP also. What am I doing wrong??????
Does it have to do with the kernel being 5838?
So is there a trick to getting XBMC to load? Do I need to modify some file on the C drive and point in in the direction of the right dash.
I remember having to delete files in the udata folder at one time. Just a bit confused. Just when you think you know what you're doing and no go.

Let me guess - you built the xboxhdm disc using a copy of the C partition from your 8G disk?
All good softmods (like Krayzie) use a shadow C to prevent you from accidentally destroying your softmod, and you've taken a copy of the shadow C, not the real C. Use Krayzie Extras to bypass shadow C, then use the contents of the real C to make xboxhdm.
I'd strongly recommend that you build the new disk with the hacked dash from your 8G disk, then install XBMC later. That way you know that the new disk will work, because the dash will be identical to the one on your original disk. If you build xboxhdm with XBMC then you have two unknowns - your xboxhdm process, and your untested XBMC installation, and that might make troubleshooting difficult if something else goes wrong.

I finally got XBMC to load as the main dash on the 250GB hard drive. The comment about the shadow C Drive was very helpful but it took me a while to find the "real files". Basically you can find the real C drive files (on the 8GB drive in my case) by using the game save exploit again locating the C drive and doing your FTP thing with FlashFTP.
Once I got the C-drive files, I swapped the hard drives 9 the 8 and 250) in the xbox (the 250 would only load the original xbox dash not Evolution like the 8gb hd) and used the game save (MA in my case) exploit again so I could FTP the files. Two files wouldn't transfer the xbOxdash.xbe and 300mb shadowc file. But I thought I would take a gamble and rebooted anyway. Evolution X loaded right up.
Then I changed the dashboard files on the E drive to get XBMC running. Strange thing I noticed was if I FTP the xbox now I can see the directories, but can't go into C anymore - not that its an issue at the moment.
I also formatted the G drive - I wonder if my other boxes are missing that space....will have to check.
Thanks for all the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Using Krayzie Extras is a much easier way of getting the real C files - rerunning the gamesave to get access to te real C only works if you cold boot with the game. If your rebuilt 250G still only showed the MS Dash then you had still only copied the shadow C, not the real C, or you only copied part of the real C.
If shadowc.img didn't copy when you did the Krayzie install then an important part of your softmod is still missing, and your real C and hence your softmod are vulnerable to accidental file deletion. You might want to start again - use ftp to delete the current C, ftp a clean C (from Slayers or CASH) to your C, and a clean Krayzie MA gamesave, then redo the softmod.

Heimdall,
Thanks for the follow up. I would like to do it the right way. I just wasn't sure how to get the shadow C files using Krayzie's Extras. When I used the MA game exploit to get into Unleash X and FTP into the 8GB drive I was able to copy those files to the PC. The files (shadowc.img and XbOxdash.ebe) could not be FTPed to the 250 GB drive while in Unleash X.
I would like to make sure I do have the right files and it's worth the time to learn to do it the right way. Any hint's using the extras??
Thanks
-
Instructions for Krayzie Extras are in the Krayzie readme.txt........
-
I noticed that when you enter Krayzie's Extras it states there will be no virtual C drive or eeprom....so would the next step be to FTP the xbox and copy the files on the C drive? Is it that simple?
I'm transfering the files now....to my PC. Hope this is it!!!!
-
Once the LED is red then shadowc and virtual eeprom are bypassed, and you can take a copy of the real C.
-
Well not sure what went wrong... used Krayzie's extras to get the C drive contents and ftped over to the pc. Made xboxhdm iso disk and unlocked the hd and copied files over using the iso. swapped the drive from the pc back to the xbox and it loads up an XBOX LIVE MENU...which doesn't work - by the way and I wasn't connected to the net (it had two tabs - new account and network setup that did nada). I can still put a xbox game in and get it going and use the MA exploit to gain HD access. But not sure what good it will do since things are messed up.
I thought about it and realized I didn't copy the E drive (on the 8GB drive) using Krayzie's extras. I had used the E drive files I copied before using the MA exploit and used them for the iso.
I am in the process of using Krazie's extras and getting all the files at once, including the shadow C files. Then i will repeat the whole iso process. Hope this does it.
Well I noticed on the files just copied and comparing to the 250gb drive on C there are some differences.
8gb --------------------------------------------------- 250gb
xodash folder -------------------------------------no folder
none --------------------------------------------xboxdashdata 185ead00
xbOxdashdata 185ead00-----------------------xbOxdashdata 185ead00
Ok so I transfered the missing files from 8gb to the 250 and deleted any that were not on the 8gb. reboot.....
xbox logo comes up and then....nothing! Well at least I got rid of the xbox live menu....
Oh it still will load a game - my favorite is MA....and unleash x still loads, ftp ok
Actually xodash wouldn't transfer... looks like its time to do an iso but save it for another day...
