Title: Noob Needs Help - Softmodding To Xbmc.

If you can't follow the instructions given on that link, we can't help you here. Those are some pretty straight forward steps to take. I didn't read the entire thing, but it will get you where you need to go.

i would run XBMC as an app first to make sure it works and just use the short cuts that are included but it should work the way you are doing it but backup your eeprom to your pc or at least your memory card first

In my country they say, don't try to run if you can't walk.

So, you want Xbmc on your xbox with a 500Gig harddisk.

To do this, you have to follow a couple of steps.

1. Softmod the original xbox harddisk. You can only use a Game Save Exploit with the original xbox harddisk.

2. Backup the eeprom.

3. Ftp the backup to your pc.

4. Prepare the bigger harddisk with the xboxhdm package on your pc. You can use the stuff from your stock xbox harddisk C and E partitions or you can recreate a disk from scratch. You will need the backup of the xbox eeprom. (eeprom.bin)

5. Ftp the Xbmc package over to your F or G apps folder. Test it as a xbox application from your current dashboard.

6. Take a look at the Xbmc online manuals about the different launchers that exist for Xbmc. Try one out and test it as an application before you overwrite your default startup dash.

7. If everything works as expected, you can replace your default dash with the Xbmc launcher.

Step 1 is the most difficult one.
One of the things that nobody brought under your attention is the fact that the xbox looses it's clock settings when you leave it unpowered for a couple of hours. (mains plug disconnected) Some softmods return to the M$dash to give you an option to set the clock. After that, you can return to the softmod dashboard with an igr (in game reset) or by rebooting the xbox.

In your case, it is also possible that an update from Live wiped out your softmodded dashboard again.

I have seen some people talking in the other forum about an NTSC exploit. If you live in the UK, your xbox will be a PAL one.

To know how to proceed with step one in your case, it is important to know it's current state.

So, what hapens if you power your xbox with the power button? (eject button colors)
And what happens if you power it with the eject button?

Are you going directly to the M$dash or are you seeing the clock screen?

Most softmods change the eject button light colors to indicate that the softmod is active. So don't be to alarmed if you don't see your favorite Green anymore.

Even if you mess things up real bad, so that the xbox boots into an error screen, there is a way to fix it again.

regards.

Steveo, I do it this way for every softmod I've done(literally hundreds) there is no reason it wouldn't boot...if for some reason the build of xbmc happen to be bad...A T3CH release bad? doubt it, but it would be no big deal! All you do is boot the game into Ndure, yes games will still boot if you screw up, and go to the eeprom backup tool of Ndure and your in an evox dashboard, just access by ftp and rename the dash folder to dash1 so that the default dashboard boots i.e. unleashX or Evox.

And OBCD I don't remember Trebz mentioning a 500gb HDD or any HDD for that matter, and this method is by far not running. This is a very simple method to run XBMC on a stock HDD and it should take no longer than 20 minutes to perform. Ndure's onscreen prompts make the install a breeze even for the most noobish of noobs. And burn a CD with the latest T3Ch XBMC folder on it, if you cant do that....than wow. Transfer the XBMC folder from the CD to root of E with UnleashX's File Manager and rename the folder dash...am I running yet? because I feel like I'm barley crawling. and reboot your done.

With a softmod install on a stock drive you can ALWAYS recover your eeprom as long as you didn't intentionally delete it. Ndure's installer MAKES YOU back it up to E:/udata/215833/0000000/backup or something along those lines.

Once again people trying to make things harder than they are, no offense gentlemen.

First off traviss63 you have modded hundreds of xboxs cool then you should know that there have been bugs in t3ch builds and whose to say the latest one doesnt have a bug in it I say it and i think there is alot of people that would agree that its better to be safe then sorry. And why you talking  down to OBCD in Trebz link he stats he wants to install a 500gb or 1tb hdd in his xbox and plus OBCDs method is the way alot of people do theirs you are the only one i have seen do it your way.

Steveo, Hostile?!?  huh.gif
Okay sure bugs, but not once have I came across a T3CH build that didn't boot and like I said even if it didn't your still completely safe... with this method and it IS very simple.

And OBCD I apologize I neglected to read the entire post on the XBMC forum, just kinda skimmed it over.

Steveo I can't express my tone when I type but I in no way am trying to be pompous, just tryin to push the point that it's a "fool proof" method.

figured those links would get yanked...they're quick like ninjas with that sh!t.  ph34r.gif

On to the reason I reply...
Trebz here is a fast way to install a large HD.
And you don't even have to mod the stock one, only backup the eeprom and FTP it.

After you have used action Replay to put the SC(or whatever game you use) gamesaves on your box.
With your box connected to your home network, start the SC game and load the 'LINUX' gamesave.
Backup your eeprom and write down the location of the backup.
Stay in the menu where the backup is performed.
Go to where it says Evox settings and check to make sure your IP is properly configured.
If it's not than config it, save and reboot back to that menu.
While in this eeprom backup menu you can access your hard drive via FTP.
Load your favorite FTP program on your PC and gain access to your xbox's hard drive.
(An FTP tutorial will help if I'm losing you)
Once you can see all the partitions then go to the directory your eeprom backup is located.
transfer over the file EEPROM.BIN to your PC, copy it and save 1 somewhere you wont lose it.
Use the other in XboxHDM to format your 500gb hard drive.
After you complete the format you can then install the softmod with NDURE.
When your done with the mod you will only see like 120-something GB's but dont worry you just have to format G.
UnleashX can format the G partition releasing the remaining 360-some GB 's

After that you can load up XBMC how I explained earlier in this thread.

Hope I helped!

Hello gents.

I managed, just, to get a compatible copy of the Krazie Ndure 1.0 exploit. I simply couldnt find the 1.1.1 version.

I installed it and it worked first time !!

Next job is to start work on the 80 GIG 7200 RPM HDD i have lying around.

Im not going for the 500GIG option as im a biot skint right now.

If you have a look at the post on the XBMC forum you'll see that i got my hands on a Dell Poweredge 500SC server. Installed Freenas and dropped in 450 GIG's worth of 7200 RPM SATA drives.

That should do the trick !!!

I'll keep you posted as to the progress of the job.

Thanks

First of all, it appears that cd's usually don't work in an xbox, unless you are using cd rw's.

Second of all, you can create an iso image, an udf image or a xiso image. And it is usually a good idea to add a large dummy file in front of the stuff you really need so that it is read better.

So, you feel like your explanation is noob proof?     uhh.gif

Besides, the moment I responded to the Threat, I had the impression that his softmod wasn't working anymore at that time. So the install of xbmc was not yet an issue at that moment.

With a gamesave exploit, you can probably recover from a bad dashboard install.
Other softmods don't have that option. They will look on several locations for a dashboard.
If they find one, they will run it. If it doesn't work properly, you can start over again.

I never said there were bugs in the T3CH builds. I just happen to read posts on this Forum from people having trouble after they tried to make xbmc their default dashboard.

But, Trebz managed to get his softmod running, so the goal is reached. No hard feelings.

regards.

Chaps

Forgive me for asking but i managed to find Krazie's 1.0 exploit after approx 2 hours of scouring the net. It was a struggle finding this version and obviously i didnt even manage to find the most upto date '1.1.1' version.

How would one go about finding and downloading the latest version.

Again forgive me, im sure that the posting of links etc to the downloads is against forum policy but if someone could steer me in the right direction it would be grealty appreciated.

I'd love to work off the latest version.

Thanks

Trebz

They refer to it as "The usual Places"

If you Google to it, you will find another name for it. If you Google that name you will find links about how to reach it. Some are complicated, others have automated the steps.

The not automated method requires an IRC chat client and a ftp client. I use Cuteftp as ftp client.

There is stuff in this forum that can help. This will help you find Console Based Exploit Packages. The update package is here.

Alternatively Google  is always useful.

I just checked the link again and it worked when I just clicked on it.

It's basically the same as one of the links you got from Heimdall.

You are on the right track with those ndure packages.
nkpatcher11_U04 is the latest used by ndure.

You have 2 ndure packages.
Krayzy has a gamesave exploit ndure installer package.
Kingroach has a package that works together with the xboxhdm package. (It's latest is 3.1)

Not that it matters since Trebz is going 80Gb at this time but this method (using UnleashX to format a 360Gb G drive partition) is the way to data corruption down the road. Hit 250Gb and you should be looking at xbpartitioner.

Good morning Gents.

The project is complete.

Last night i cracked it finally. The Xbox is now running the new Dashboard as per Krazie's exploit. Built on a Western Digital 80 GIG 7200RPM HDD. I have XBMC running as an application. It streams video from t'internet and can access the NAS server over LAN to play music and video's / .avi's etc.

Many thanks for the pointers guys. Really appreciate you jumping in and helping me out.

Full post on the XBMC forum: The Full Story

All the best

REALLY?  I've never heard that. I have been doing it that way for years and never had any issues of the sort. I keep a few boxes in my house as well, and 3 of them have at least 500gb(all of which is well used) and like I said not a single problem.

Not saying I don't believe you , just that it hasn't been the case for me, for the last 4 years on 3 boxes. All my files have stayed intact and I use all of them equally as much as I use my 360. I just thought that was weird! blink.gif
