Title: Really Need Help With A Softmod.
Post by: commandersafi on June 20, 2008, 04:15:00 AM
Ok...a softmodded xbox will NOT boot if the HDD is unlocked. The only way to have a xbox boot with the HDD unlocked is either with a chip or a TSOP flash
Second thing, When you put the HDD into your friends xbox and locked it...well you did just that you locked the HDD to your friends xbox. Every xbox has a different key so when you locked your HDD on his xbox it wont boot in your xbox because the key doesn't match your Eeproms key, it matches your friend's key.
Did you back up your Eeprom before you did this? If not you will either need to make an eeprom reader, or you will need to get a modchip

The xbox uses a password to unlock the harddisk that is unique for every xbox. It is calculated based upon the xbox hddkey and the harddisk model and serial number. The hddkey is a piece of information stored in the xbox eeprom chip. This is a small (256 bytes) memory chip.
It is possible to lock a harddisk with a pc. There are dos tools and there is the xboxhdm package. This is a linux distro that boots from cd. It has fatx support and buildin scripts to partition and prepare a harddisk for use in a xbox.
So, you should go to your friend and unlock the disk again first.
Then you will need to get your xbox eeprom contents. That eeprom.bin file is needed to calculate the harddisk password for locking.
A modchip is also an option. It allows to run programs, even with a blank harddisk in the xbox.
Since you restored the harddisk to factory with slayers, you will need to install the softmod again as well.
So, you will need:
xboxhdm Kingroach ndure 3.1 An old pc, with 2 ide ports.
If you don't have an old pc, you can try the xboxhdm2 package that ldotsfan created. It boots from an usb stick.
regards.

I didnt backup my Eeprom. Please explain this to me considering that I'm a newbie. How can I make an eeprom reader? and how can I lock my harddrive to my XboX after I make the eeprom reader?
1. Google "xbox eeprom reader" for how to make eeprom reader. You need a PC with serial port. 2. Google "xboxhdm for dummies" for how to lock hdd.
