I was previously stuck with minimum/basic/upgrade screen, then I FTP'ed over the E: drive files that I backed up, now I have switch softmod/on/off - remove softmod - restore msdash - extras and dashboard settings. It now says I have room on the c drive. Trying to remove softmod and restore from HD backup results in a batch fail with no statement as to why. Can't boot to a dash without MA/gamesave as I get the call customer service after the xbox logo screen.
Would re-ftp'ing E: drive files, the eeprom backup and the c: files that I pulled from the machine before attempting the upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1 solve my problems and just delete the extra files that didn't exist before the attempted upgrade?

Ah, finally. After tinkering around a bit with transfering files. I decided to transfer over the files I had backed up and not to touch the remove softmod option which borks the process by deleting files. Booted the box to a stock dashboard. Deleted all gamesaves associated with the box, put 1.1 back on a card again, booted up and started a Basic install. Here I am and all is well again, just took some time to figure out the problem by myself
