Title: Over Heating Xbox- Why?

Okay... today I ripped a DVD for the first time with the xbox. I used the newest Slayer 2.5 autoinstall of evox and additional software such as xbox media player. I have installed a Seagate Barracuda 120gig hard drive with 7200rpm and an 8mb cache. Also, I have an Aladin Advanced mod with Evox M7 bios in it. Okay, my problem-
I was playing a dvd movie that was ripped off and stored onto the harddrive. After a good 50-60 mins of play, the movie just froze. At first i thought it was a glitch, but it occured again. I checked the temps of the CPU and motherboard, they read a scorching 107 F for the mobo and 130 F for the CPU. Now I consider that hot. I don't know if it is overheating, but i have a good feeling that its the temperature thats freezing it up.
Any suggestions as to why this occurs? is it a software glitch? did I not ripp it properly? I used DVD2COPY.

Or is possible that the Hard Drive is overheating? I heard there are probs with 7200 RPM overheating sometimes. Exspeically during movie play perhaps because it is constantly reading off the the hard drive.

Those temps seem about normal I think
Thats about 46 C and 56 C... on a warm day that can be reached...
If you want to drop the temps use a bios with an higher fan speed setting... I found that using the 40% seting in the bios hack can drop the temp to about 10 C lower....

The movie froze probably due to the software either the ripping or the playing...

It is common for 7200 rpm hard drives to overheat when they are not well ventillated.

Unless you drill some extra holes in your case and install another additional fan correctly positioned to create airflow, you will continue to have problems with any 7200 rpm hard drive.

Had the same problem with the 7200 rpm hard drive on one of my Xbox's in the latest version it overheated :( but in the older model it ran fine :) . It seems to vary between machine types. I tend to stick to the 5400 rpm as they seem to run cooler. If you have to use the 7200 rpm's and your Xbox overheats you can either add some fans to the inside of the case or get an external cooler. Some people have said that the best drives to use in an XBOX are MAXTOR or WESTERN DIGITAL. It varies between which site you go to. Hope you get it sorted

Try using EvolutionX 3935. If you enable SMART mode (in the evox.ini, it's not in the menu) you can check the HDD temperature.

it's not common. all my 3 boxes have 7200 rpm drives installed und work just fine. so do he one of my friends. it differs from location to location. it should help to set the fan speed higher.
