Title: No Evox Dash After Hdd Upgrade
Post by: m0rcheeba on August 07, 2007, 09:14:00 AM
Last night I upgraded to a 250gb HD.  Everything went successful, but I am confused about one thing.  The system files that I copied to my new HD was softmodded.  When I turned on my xbox with the new HD installed, it booted up to the MS Dash.   My Splinter Cell gamesaves were on the HD, but they appeared to be a different size than the ones I had on my memory card.   I ran Splinter Cell and the gamesave and it took me to the softmod settings menu, but I only had the option to remove the softmod.  Do I need to remove it and re-install it again?

It's easier to just build the HDD as stock then softmod it once you have the HDD installed.

I'd recommend using XBOXHDM and just building it as stock from scratch and then softmodding, rather than removing your softmod as is then installing over it as some of the modded files you added may conflict with each other. Then once you have the new HDD softmodded and working, just FTP over anything you needed from the first HDD.

So do you suggest instead of copying over the C: E: drives, as mentioned here http://www.techfreaks.org/articles/modxbox2.shtml , to just say no and leave it blank?

No, I'd recommend using completely stock files for C and E. They can be found in Slayers, AID, or CASH by extracting the xISO. Or if you made a C and E backup before installing the softmod, those would be stock as well.

IMO the only time I'd use XBOXHDM to fully install a softmod is if I didn't have the gamesave tools to do so. When you have the gamesave tools IMO it's just easier to build the drive as stock, then softmod.

I decided to try to remove the softmod first because if anything happened, I could just wipe the HD and start over.  It replaced the modded files with the backed up files hidden on the HD.  I then reinstalled the softmod and it went flawlessly.  Everything is working now and I have my EvoX dash.  Thanks for all of your help.
