Thanks for the reply!
I need to cliarify a few point so im clear.
The error it gets is 16
I get this error with the drive empty and with a disk in the drive.
The whole softmod mishap happened in less than 10 minutes, so I never go the chance to backup the eprom to my copmuter.
I did make the C:\ drive and eprom backups to e:\ before the softmod BUT 1. I did not see the MS backup on E:\ when everything broke and I dont know if the eprom is on e:\ still or not 2. I dont know that the eprom on E:\ would help much
(Unless I could pop his hard drive into my xbox and retrieve the eprom somehow)
I was thinking if I droped his hard drive into my xbox, and booted AID, that would let me redo the drive.
Is this not true. I know that chips dont care if a drive is locked or not, but does this prevent my from preping his drive somehow?
Simularly, If I installed a modchip in his xbox, wouldn't I then be able to boot AID and and pre his dirve, just as if I was adding a 160 gig drive to it.
If I have to use xboxhdm to repair the drive, I do not need the eeprom corect?
Thanks you in advance.

You can't put his HDD in your box as it will have error 6 (locked to another xbox) and if you unlock it (don't do that, please, lol) you will get error 5.
If you have his eeprom you can rebuild his HDD using XBOXHDM. You could also hotswap and rebuild with XBOXHDM also.
If you install a chip in his box you can boot AID/Slayers, etc just fine and fix anything you need.
You should be using a better softmod BTW (Krayzies Ndure v1.1.1). If you go the modchip route for building his HDD (and plan to remove it afterwards), you can use CASH to do it, if your interested in that route, just click the link in my sig and read post #11

A few last qustions
Am I right in my understanding that even if I Dont know the eeprom, I can still repair the hd with xboxhdm_v1.9 by Hotswaping the driv ein my PC?
Am I also corect in my understanding that simply installing a modchip will get me back up, even if the xbox has the error 16 (Set clock) error?
Yes on both.

I am thinkin about runin Cash V1.1 now to reapply the sotmod wthout errors (I also have his eeprom on my memory card now)
Shoud I do this?
That should work, and you have his eeprom (and know how to hotswap) if anything goes wrong.
Just follow the section "How to format Ndure v1.1 and go back to stock+Ndure v1.1.1" from the manual. And follow the instructions to a "T". Important parts are that you write down the kernel/know it at least, and don't use restore from HDD (might not be safe if it said a file didn't copy correctly).
Also I highly recommend burning CASH to a DVD for reliability. Only problems I've seen is when someone uses it to wipe and reinstall files, and due to being on CD-R/cheap media it seems to miss a few needed files while copying them (from not being able to read them). As long as you burn it to a decent quality DVD disc, you'll be fine though.
