who'd you hear that from? the locking key is based on eeprom which means no generators will ever work.

what error number are you getting?

if it's an old xbox it's normal it doesn't show an error. just try to coldboot your retail exploited game and load the save. otherwise hotswap. if you locked it wrong then you need to play with xboxhdm some more.

man cold booting not working

If I understand it correctly, you used xbhdm to lock your HD with a wrong key and your right key (eeprom) is on the HD. In that case, it might be fixable. Unlock your HD with xbhdm. If you locked it with xbhdm, a master password get set. I am not sure what it is tho, but I'll have a look. Then use xbhdm to grab the eeprom from your HD, and lock your HD with this eeprom.

you have to use the atapwd command withing xbhdm
Master Password: XBOXSCENE

ok ill see cuz i cant use xbrowser it says no partitions or something i guess because its locked

but i never unlocked it to lock it i guess it just added another pass huh

oh and does ndure installer store the pass in E:\backups\eeprom\backup\eeprom.bin all i need is the bin huh

ill try this technique tho

yeah, somewhere in the backup\eeprom folder. the eeprom.bin is what you need.

hmmm i tried it i never set any master password like that

when i try to run xbrowser in linux it says found and then said no partition hmmm

and when i told it to search for the eeprom.bin i typed the path these two ways i know little about linux in command line mode

dev/hda/backups/eeprom/backup

dev/hda/backups/eeprom/backup/eeprom.bin

and lastly

/backups/eeprom/backup
/backups/eeprom/backup/eeprom.bin

So, that didn't work. Try hotswapping, then. To get information on hotswapping, check DaddyJ's Siganture. Or misterhoangdai's

If you want to unlock the hard drive, don't bother with xboxhdm.  Just make an MS-DOS bootable floppy disk containing <<ATAPWD>>.  You won't have to hotswap, you can just hook it up in your computer and boot it to the floppy and then choose to unlock the hard drive using master password.  Type XBOXSCENE in all caps and it should unlock.  You then need to disable the hard drive so it doesn't lock again.  You can then use XboxHDM without hotswapping.  And it should read it fine.

since your the only one having that bright idea why don't you do that? It must be simple.

and you don't need another xbox to hotswap. you can hotswap to a pc just fine also. you know there is a search button, pinned topics, tutorials and such all over the place right?

I think it's really unfair that you keep on trying to blame XBoxHDM or Krayzie's installer for the problems you've encountered, when in fact, they are really a product of your own mistakes. Lots of people, myself included, get it right using those tools. They are excellent tools, in fact. I hope you get your box sorted out, but please, don't try to pass the buck. You tried to mod it, nobody else.

I don't see how you can be so sure it's the exploit, when it's working extremely well for so many people. It took me three attempts to get NDURE working, but I finally figured it out, and it's really cool. My advice: work out what you need to do differently, because I really doubt you're the first person with a 1.0 to install NDURE.

With regards to your hard drive, that's not a great thing to happen, and you have my sympathy. I managed to perma-lock a 120gb drive when I first got into modding, due to my lack of knowledge.

You have to face facts: XBoxHDM did not tamper with anything. You made a mistake. It's that simple. Your hard drive is now a doorstop. I've been there, and it's not so great. Your X-Box, however, is far from dead. Bt installing a chip - even if only temporarily - you can get the eeprom, and use that to lock a new hard drive. If you're borrowing a solderless chip, that would be my recommendation. If you have to buy a chip, you don't need to worry about locking the hard drive at all, you can just install any new drive.

This is an expensive lesson, but take heed of this: People have been trying to help you in this thread, and you're just blaming your tools. Well, that doesn't seem too polite to me, considering that people like Krayzie and the others put a lot of work into them for our benefit.
