There probably was leftover stuff from a previous mod, which resulted in a missing file, so it couldn't be renamed.

To solve :

- Make sure you have all original  files on c:
- Use a fresh installer (i.e. new download or copy, as a previous used version may contain backup files etc)
- re-mod your box
- done

Use your backup and use the original c:

or

Get Slayers disc (from xbins) this has a brand new shiny copy of the 5960 dash.

Sorry for being rather-noobish, but by backup, do you mean the copy of my harddrive that i ftped over to my pc? becuase all i put onto my pc was my eeprom.

If i go get slayers from xbins will i just be able to stick it in and run it or what.

I just want to be able to restore my xbox to original state. I would only softmod to mess with emulators and stuff, then erase it all and delete the softmod and get on xbox live. So I just want the xbox stock agian.

No, backup = backup of the original c: drive.

Slayers : it's a (downloadable) autoinstaller disc which (among other stuff) contains the MS 5960 dash. You have to manually extract it though.

BTW : you don't have to unmod to go on live ....

Slayer's and Auto Installer Deluxe 2.1 both have the latest M$ dash on it.

You mentioned you didn't FTP your original dash to your PC, but did you at least back up your original m$ dash on the xbox prior to installing the softmod? If so, the original dash is now stored in a backup folder on your E: drive. If it's still there, you can use that to restore your original dash.

I don't exactly understand the whole backup of my original C:. Is there a tutorial or something I can use to do what you are telling me? I would search but I don't even know what I am searching for.

By the way, are the xbox-scene forums being really slow for you?

Here's the deal. When you run your sofmod installer, you usually have an option to backup your original M$ dash... do it. If for some reason a game attempts to update the dash and you receive error messages OR you have problems like the ones you're having, then all you would have to do is boot up the softmod installer stuff again, and select the Restore M$ dash option.

Since it sounds like you didn't backup your m$ dash (c: drive) to either your xbox or your PC, you will need Slayer's or Auto Installer Deluxe. Both of them have the newest M$ dash (the files you need).

Tutorial? hmmmm nevermind ....

- locate/abtain a copy of the original MS 5960 dash (read above)
- Boot your exploitable game
- Load gamesave : you now have ftp access
- Delete everything on c:
- FTP the MS dash to c:
- Delete the original gamesave in e:\udata
- FTP a new 'virgin' gamesave to e:\udata (or copy later from mem card)
- reboot
- remod
- done

I don't see how you want me to get ftp access when I cant even install my softmod, like i said in the begining it gives me an error whenever i try to install the softmod, and when i try to start over from scratch it will still bring me to the exact same spot. I didnt understand how you wanted me to get my backed up copy of my dash when all i had to work with was being able to boot to ms dash. I figured out how to fix it on my own.

Here is what I did for anyone that has this problem...

Just delete your gamesave off of your xbox in MS dash, then load it back on with the memory card, and try to restart the softmod over from scratch. Thats what i had to do otherwise when i loaded my gavesave in AUF it would just give me the error and I could do nothing else.
