Title: About Krayzie's Installer And Reinstalling
Post by: beefchimichunga on July 17, 2005, 08:35:00 PM
Ok, I recently removed krayzies installer...I think. Let me tell you what happened before I say what I really want to. I was almost done removing it, and at the end, I got an error message. I rebooted without Splinter Cell in the tray, and it said my box needed service. It seemed that I couldn't load the dash. I left for 2 days, and I came back and somehow I could load the MS dash at startup, and connect to live and everything. So I think the softmod is gone. I kept the gamesaves on my box so now when I go to the linux gamesave, it still looks like I have the softmod up. It says "Remove Softmod" "Turn on/off" etc. What I want to know is would it be safe to remove the gamesaves, reload them to my box, and install the softmod again? One more question. If I turn off softmod once it is installed (if it works), I load the MS dash at startup and can connect to live through it, right?
Thanks, beef

Sorry for the double post, edit button disappears quick. I want to say that I am not sure if it was the new version of krayzies installed. Would it matter if it was the old version instead, and I am trying to load the new krayzie? I.E. v2.8

if you put on a fresh save you would see an option to restore your xbox to stock using slayers disc. It may be wise to use that cus you might have not removed everything.

Yeah, but I'm not completely sure that I have a v1.6 box and I don't feel like opening it. Is there another softmod that lets me get on live through coldboot, and has a turn on/off option like yours?
What would happen if I didn't remove everything, then I reload the gamesaves and just try the installation again? Would that break my box? By the way, I still have the UnleashX thing in my memory on the MS Dash. Would deleting that do anything?
Also, when I tried doing this before, I entered slayers disc that I had burned to a CD and it wasn't recognized. It said Tray: Empty.

Your DVD drive can't read CDR's. Try a DVD-R or a CDRW.
Oh, and read up on softmodding. Half of your last post doesn't make sense, the other half contains questions on which the answer can be found easily.

What parts should I explain better? And what parts can I find answers?
By the way, where is that tutorial to find out what xbox version I have? I am pretty sure it is 1.6, but I know it is impossible to know without actually opening it.
EDIT: Restoring my xbox will get rid of all my profiles, gamesaves, and live accounts right? I should probably put those onto a mem. card, correct?
Last thing, can I burn Slayers to a DVD-RW? I also heard that it was only for hardmodded xboxes. But now I am guessing it isn't.

Wait, does it matter what xbox version I have if all I am doing is restoring my xbox? It would be really nice if someone could give me step by step what to do. I burned the DVD, but I need help backing up my files and FTPing. Can someone lead me through this?

it doesn't mather what version it is as long as you use slayers 2.6. For ftping look at some tuts in the new section.

Ok, thanks Krayzie. Will DVD-RW's work?

Well, I will test it, and if it still says empty, I will just burn it to a DVD-R. No biggie I guess.
EDIT: O yeah. So what will happen if I try reinstalling the softmod without a restore?
EDIT 2: What will happen right after it restores? Would I just restart the box and it is in stock state? Would it still have the gamesaves on?

jImMyGoOn: 1) Gain access with FTP2) Backup C and E for backup purposes and gamesaves...3) put C and E drives on from extracted Slayers ISO
jImMyGoOn: 4) reboot... restore gamesaves after establish FTP connection through hacked Splinter Cell gamesave (transfered with Action Replay)5) enjoy... resoftmod... go on xboxlive ... etc
That's what one guy who is helping me says what to do. He told me to run this through xbox scene first. Does that sound good, or bad? Thanks again. Please respond krayzie!

Ok, I REALLY wish there was an edit button, because I hate QUADRUPLE posting, but please just answer the question: "What would happen if I try installing the softmod again without restoring?" If no errors could occur, why not try it you know?

No need for restore. Just reinstall over whatever you got. It will fix everything.
Once you get ftp, back everything up and archive it for the future (just in case).
Then you can do whatever you want. Because it is now impossible to permantly break your xbox software.
