Hi, I need help to softmod a 1.6 xbox. I have another modded xbox (modchip) and was considering a hotswap to get the savegame onto the 1.6 because I dont have a memory stick.
Ive read most of the tutorials, but they seem outdated, as ive read about new softmod autoinstallers and such.
So basically what im asking is: is there a good tut to follow to easily install a softmod on a 1.6 xbox?

Agreed. The hotswap method is tricky and risky and given the cost of an official MS Memory Card, it's not worth it. Also you might be able to find one for cheaper if you have a local place that exchanges used videogame equipment. As for what Install method to use, The Krayzie's UXE Installers win hands down. Since you have access to a modded XBOX here is all you will need to do once you buy an XBOX Memory Card.
1. Download one of the 3 Krayzie's (V2.8) Installers (ie 007, Mechaussault, Splinter Cell)
2. Get an original of one of the 3 aforementioned games. To play it safe make sure you get an original that is from the first year the game was originally released (ie no platinum hits editions, or later run discs). This isn't to say it won't work but people have had the greatest success with all of the softmods when they get the first year release of these games.
3. Plug the memory card into the controller of your modded XBOX and then turn it on and network it to your PC (via FTP).
4. Extract the Krayzie's Installer and you should have a folder that says UDATA, go into this folder and you should see a folder that has 6-7 numbers. Select that folder and FTP it to the H:/ drive on your XBOX (as that FTPs the installer straight to your Memory Card).
5. Turn off the modded XBOX and pull the memory card out. Put it in the controller of the unmodded XBOX and turn it on. Once in the original MS Dash, Go into the Memory Manager. and select the game save file on your Memory Card and transfer it over to the HD (note if you have gamesaves on your XBOX that are related to any of the 3 games above and you have them on your XBOX before you do the softmod, you might want to delete them). Once this is done, exit out into the main menus of the MS Dashboard and put in the original game disc that goes with the installer. Once the game loads go into the area where it gives you the option to load a save game and select the one that says "Run Linux" once you select this the screen should go black for a few seconds and then boot up the Softmod installer screen. Follow the directions and it will be done in about 10 minutes or less.
6. If you plan on doing an upgraded HD, what I would do is put the blank upgraded HD in your chipped XBOX and use an auto-installer disc to format it (ie Slayer's V2.6), then once you have installed it, I would go through and exit out into the MS Dashboard and then repeat the same install process as above, but this time make sure you use a different kernel to install on (there are two options for which you will be prompted .06 and .67). Once you have done this whole process on your Modded XBOX, swap out the HDs again and put the newly softmodded HD into the unmodded XBOX and it should be all set to go.
