Title: The Blackwar Installer
Post by: BlackWar on February 20, 2005, 01:55:00 PM
Ok, after almost 2 months of testing, it is now ready, The BlackWar Installer is now public!

You can read about it at my (ever so sad looking) website. You can see it here!

Please excuse the site, I didnt feel like wasting another month on making a website, so I just threw it up in plain text.

Also, please dont post questions, or PM me questions, about were exactly to obtain it at. The information you need to get it has already been givin to you through the website. If you can figure out the clue that was givin, then you are worthy to use this installer  :D

Seriously though, it is against the board rules to to post direct links, or request them, through here or PM, so if you send me a PM asing for a link for the installer, I will just delete them, I do not wish to be banned over it. The information on how to get it is there on the website, just hiddin   .

Good luck, happy hunting and have fun!
BlackWar

P.S., thank you jcupp114 for the avatar, I like it!

the readme should be in with the zip..... I will check it and if I am wrong I will fix it asap.

as for a dash it uses unleashx after install, and as an installer.

as for the game it uses 007. the others will come shortly, hopefully. They have me working 56 hours this week, so yea, that is everyday

oops, yea I forgot to include the readme. it is now fixed, and the file name was changed from 1.0 to 1.1 to reflect this. sorry about that.

ok, someone has PMed me a problem with running topspin ncaa combo by using this installer, has anybody else come across this problem? I thought that this particular game required the origional fonts, and shadowc should eliminate this problem. I want to see if others are having the same problems.

thank you for your help on checking this out.

lol, sorry about that, but for all reasons it was necessary to do it that way.

as for MA, I am in the process of working on it. so far it is going well. I got the HD backup part working, but after the first part of the install, I get an error 21 screen, so it needs some work. after I get MA working I will let you know and then start work on SC.

I have a question to ask regarding xbl and HD scanning......do they do that?

I am asking this is because I am thinking about changing the way the uninstall works on stock HD's, so when they go to re-install the exploit, they dont have to re-install everything back into e:. I did it that way as a safety measure so peeps can use there stock HD's to play xbl, but if I dont need to worry about HD scanning, then I can just add in a "re-install" section under stock and change the way it restores, to that way they can go on live and re-install the exploit and still have all of there stuff there.

Is the safest way you suggest to use xbox live with a softmod is by uninstalling the mod then installing xbox live and after you finish using live you can reinstall the softmod and when you want to use live again you uninstall the softmod but then is your xbox live account still saved to your xbox or do you gota do like account recovery everytime...

So what Im asking is 2 Questions with this installer exploit regarding Xbox Live:

Is the safest method of Using Xbox live via Cold Boot OR the Uninstall/Reinstall method and is it 100% safe to use?

If I choose to use the uninstall/reinstall method for Xbox Live will my xbox live account be erased and will have to do account recovery every time?

Hey I am going to do this on my box,
but just to help others. In your next release of teh installer can you edit
so that when your hacked bios is loaded the front LED of the XBOX is RED
so that those who are coldbooting to access LIVE can verify that the M$ bios has
in fact loaded when they see the GREEN LED?

lmao, I didnt expect this thing to become that popular.

anyways, no need to get all "pissy" on the boards if you cant find it. the only reason why I did that was so....

1: there are no direct links, hence, I cant get banned from the boards.
2: When it gets to the usual places, it will be easer to find and download.
3: ummm.....ahhhhh........ I like pie...........lol

seriously, though, if you stop for a second and think about it, its not hard to find at all...

All you need to do is get to the "source" of things...... and IE provides all the tools you need to get to the "source" of it all.....

Now, if that aint a big enough clue, then you deserve to be flamed by all board members.

Also, thanks for the PM's about "I found a bug" but actually you are just complaining  that you cant find it. I apperciate the time I wasted in readin them, thank you. That is not a really good way to ask for help. ONLY PM ME ABOUT A BUG IF YOU REALLY FOUND ONE!!!!! You know who you are. If you recall a few pages back, I said that I am not going to reply to PMs begging me for links. I am not a dick about this, I just dont wish to get banned from here, that is all.

Now, about the led idea, that is not a bad idea, but I am thinking of not going with red, but more like orange, the same that the installer uses.

As for the SC release, I will begin working on it come monday. the kids have a few days off from school and are really eagure to play on the xbox, lol. If it goes as smoothly as the MA one did, it should be out on monday night/tuesday at the latest.

Now, thanks for all of the positive feedback guys/gals, I greatly apperciate it, and dont forget about the beta testers though, it was there feedback (and the extensive work done by one in particular), that helped me in narrowing down the bugs in it, and insureing that this is a safe installer. I cannot take complete credit in this installer, because I was not the only one working on it, the beta testers also deserve some credit too.

Most installers wipe out items from old exploits that will prevent you from going on Live after uninstalling theirs..  Anything can be on E:\ and not interfere, I know mine and most others wipe C: after backing up its data and before installing UXE..  I'm only assuming this installer does this, I'm going to double check..

It is a good idea to have the C: COMPLETELY stock before running this exploit. what is in E: doesnt really matter. If you are already running an exploit, and just run this installer over the top of it, what may happen is when you go to access the M$ dash, it will lauch the old exploit you had, and that could cause some serious problems (xbox locks up, reboots, error screen, ect), so that is way I have it worded that you xbox MUST be stock before running this exploit.

OK, now for a little bit of bad news..... someone has reported to me that after running the MA version of this installer, the C: was still empty, when it should have had the stock C: files on it (the shadowc C: that is). has anybody else run into this issue? If so either post it here or PM me about it so I can fix it ASAP.

thank you!

BlackWar-

Your installer sounds great!  I am really looking forward to your SC version of your installer.  I havent had any luck with the other installers using Action Replays mem card.

Have you had much feedback from people using your MA and 007 installers with AR mem cards and newer boxes?

The SC version will come just keep your eyes peeled and as far as the ar software. You will have to open the main zip and then use the installer that will be within accompanying a readme file. This is how the blackwar installer is packaged now. We will see how it see for the sc version to come.

nullifier, my guess would be that you overwrote your shadowc image when you reinstalled the exploit since you didn't have stock files on C: at the time..  I also think you jumped the gun on reinstalling it..  Did you even try to reboot first?  Glitches can happen..

I believe what happened is that the xbox formatted C: then did not append anything afterwards. This is why you have the non appearing C: in the ftp. Now Blackwar will have this resolved soon. When the new version is out just re run the installer and your there.

it would be the config.xml but the files folder holds more so you would need to edit those as well.
Blackwar will have a update out soon....

ok, I skimmed over the past few pages and seen some of the issues that some of you are having, and I do greatly appologise for this, and here is some of the things that I can think of to help you out as best as I can untill an updated is released resolving these issues.

Missing C: partition
When in FTP, and a partition is missing (I.E. no C: folder), this means that somethere along the line the formatting of the shadowC did not complete properly. the best way to fix this is to run the restore process and then run the re-install process. this way, what ever you have installed will still be there. BE SURE YOU RUN THE RE-INSTALL process!!! if you just run install, expecially on a large HD, your WILL LOOSE YOUR INSTALLED GAMES AND APPS!.

Black Screen apon bootup
This is an odd problem, and I have never incountered it before, nor do I think anyone else that I can think of. If it starts up fine (flubber logo), and then just goes black and hangs, I am assuming it is the fonts that are to blame. the best option to try is to run the "install optional fonts", if this does not work, or make it worse, just run the game expoit, and then run the uninstall, and then run the re-install option, this will replace the old fonts back in. If the black screen is still an issue then I will need to tweak the fonts that are installed by default. be sure to PM me if this is still an issue so I can make the proper repairs.

Empty C: partition
This has to do what I beleave is a "glitch" on how the exploit handles the swap file partitions after it reloads. I have watched this closely, and at random times it now has happend to me also. From what I can tell of, everything does work as it should, but after it reloads, it "mis-reads" the swap partitions, thinking that they are empty (I noticed this while watch the FTP while the installer was working), and right before the reboot, the "stockc" folder was there in X:, but right after reboot, the folder was gone, but, when everything is said and done (the xbox booted normally with the exploit running), the stockc folder would re-appear in X:  uhh.gif  uhh.gif  uhh.gif as an easy fix as someone else stated, would be to script it so it is held in E: temporarly, and then have it scripted so it is deleted after everything else is done. This would mean that you need to insure that you have at least 180MB free in E:, but that is the only workaround I can think of in order to get it to install properly.

Where are the updates?!?
I understand that there are now issues with the MA installer, and that you all have been very pacient with this/me, and I greaty apperciate it, but it will be a short while before an update or SC will be released, the kids are home from school (teachers convention) until wednesday, so the earliest I will be able to take the xbox back (lol, the kids have been whining for there "fix" so I had to give it up and put my work on the xbox on hold until they go back to school) and get a fixed release of MA out is wednesday night at the earliest, and it should be out by then too, but if the problem is extensive, it may take longer, but with the help of jcupp114 and others, I feel that it will be out on wednesday. In the meantime, I recommend that if the MA is working for you as-is, then leave it, if it causing major problems for you (unable to load/play games/apps/ect), then I recommend that you switch to another installer until this issue is fixed. I greatly appoligise for this inconvience, but this is the best advice I can offer at this point in time.

again, I greatly appologise for this issue, and for my bad grammer/spelling in this post, I just got off of work not to long ago, and it is now almost 3 a.m. for me, so I will be hitting the sack soon. I will pop back in again later on to see if any more issues arrise.

Blackwar:
Quick question, the font you used with nkpatcher is bert_ate ernie-generic.xtf in the root of C:
does that font support editing the colour of the LED on the front of the xbox. I haven't been able to find it in there..
the only tutorials I can find are for editing bert.asm and ernie.asm and compiling them but the nkpatcher in your installer is wanting to load bert_ate ernie-generic.xtf So I'm wondering if I get a copy of nkpatcher.asm would I be able to edit that to point to bert.xtf and ernie.xtf and place those in the root of the C: and would that work?
Or would I have to do it the other way around, and edit bert_ate ernie-generic.asm to change the LED and then compile that and replace the font on the C:?
I don't know if you've already put the LED change into your new release.. but either way I'd like to be able to do it myself.. mostly b/c I have already put a bunch of junk onto my box and don't want to re-install all my apps and teh installer.

#2. Regarding the "Copy game disc" program that comes with this installer.... Is there any way to see the file size of the game prior to actually copying it to your drive? I ask because my friend has a stock HD in his box (5 gig) and doesn't want to upgrade it... Also, we got an error last night trying to copy the NCAA football 2005/Topspin game that came with his box... I believe it was 112 or 114 error code... is that due to the CDX launcher that hates soft mods or is it his xbox's way of saying that there isn't room on the disc to copy the game?

I dunno about that program, but I just use boxplorer to copy games.. when you open boxplorer hit "start" and select "pick drive letter" and select your DVD drive (should say 6.01GB) beside it.. then hit "start" again and select "mark all"
Then hit the R trigger and it will open the screen where you are going to copy your game to.. Select the partition you want to save to and make a new folder for you game (I think if you hit the white or black button you get a menu for making new folders etc) so make sure you are IN the folder where you will copy to, and then hit L trigger to go back, and make sure all files are highlighted in the DVD and hit "start" and select copy all and it will ask you to confirm.. I beleive this method tells you how big the game is that you are copying.
You can get boxplorer from usual places.

Issues w. the BWI1.3 007 installer:

Great installer! I have only experimenced minor inconsistencies.
Not a big deal, but I just thought I would report my experiences...

1)
When doing a restore stock C, it says that apps etc. will be wiped out. This does not seem to be the case. (But it should be mentioned that when I did it earlier on with BWI1.2 they the folders were removed.)
I am not sure what is intended here: To *only* restore C og also to clean E?
Anyway, it would be nice to have an option to restore C only, so that it is easier to do !Live management and then do the exploit reinstall afterwards and keeping files on E intact. (but maybe that option is already there?)

2)
When doing a reinstall on stock, the term "large hdd" is used in text. The text should probably be changed to "stock".

3)
After my last reinstall the folder CurrentDash held unleashx and a standard config.ini and not the BWI one. (Before the C restore/reinstall, I had put xbmc in that folder, so as to use it as default dash)

Also some more documentation would be nice as I don't consider it to obvious what exactly the individual restore/reinstall options do.

But again: Great work!

To play on xbl, it MUST be from a stock state. NO exploit can be running at all. even though it uses the shadowc function, xbl scans the xboxs memory, and it will find the exploit loaded in memory. that is why that you MUST uninstall ANY softmod to go on live. You can "cold boot" from a game disk to go on live, but some say it works, others say they got banned from this. the choice is yours to try.

as for 007......lol, yea, there are some wording issues that need to be takin care of. what version of 007 are you using? I thought I found them all and fixed them in the latest, but I could be wrong. also, for the default dash after install, the reason why I did it this route is because it is your xbox, you can use what ever skin you wish. Thanks to jcupp114, a custom skin was made for this installer, and intended solely for that use.

and, yes, I changed it so that if you installed, un-installed and then re-installed, your apps and stuff will still be there (except for the dash). this is so you dont have to go through and re-install everything after you un-installed to play on live, hide the fact that its modded from your parents, ect.

I thought one of the features of nkpatcher10 was making it impossible to even access Live while the exploit was running, so doesnt that mean xbl would never be able to find the exploit loaded in the memory even if you decide to coldboot instead of uninstalling the mod every time?

After a long ass time of tryng to hotswap, i was finally able to put The BlackWar Installer
on my xbox. after i rebooted the xbox and loaded Mechassualt, i still can't run linux. wtf????  I am so frustrated with this.  everything sounds so simple until you go to do it. everytime you advance, you get another obastcle and 100's off pages of more reading or another 100 doubts.

I am glad to say that when i put in "Fight Night 2004", and i allow it to play on "Demo Mode", you can hotswap at that point. it worked  like a charm. I've been trying to hotswap for a long ass time and this is the first and only way i've been able to get the drive unlocked.

Regardless, whats the deal with this installer. what did i do wrong?  i put the installer in xboxhdm disc.  I put the udata folder in the e: folder of the disc. then i create the disc, do the hotswap, put file on to xbhd in udata, and still unable to run linux!!!! am i missing somethng or?????

Blackwar installer does not utilize linux. If you have blackwar installed then your halfway there. View the .nix OS on xbox to get info about the linux end.

The hdm disc does run linux but for a recovery stage. More-less a utility that saves "Beee Hinds" so to speak.

Not to beat a dead horse.. Using the 007 savefile I changed the X: to an E: on the savefile's config.xml because the previous attempts were giving me a blank C: partition.. I removes the Xploit and did the Reinstall Large HD (using E: instead of X:) and it still shows a blank C: drive.. I even tried copying the Original files back to C: from the E:/StockC folder and cold booted.. Still blank.  I figure it must'v copied the files to the virtual C: and that the fully functioning C: partition must still work because the XBox still works normally..  ultimately does it matter that the contents of C: are NOT visible when I FTP into it? Or does it put some risk into running it this way?

Title: The Blackwar Installer

this expoit should work on all versions of xbox pal and ntsc alike, because it uses the uxe exploit to run.

Before I get started on the SC one, I want to get MA fixed. I understand that this is frusterating to most of you, but please try to understand the frusteration that the MA users are going through. I myself made the mistake that being that the 007 went rather flawlessly, the MA one would also. I am sorry for this but we are working hard to resolve this issue as fast as possable.

007 is giving you an empty c:? the only reason why I can think of this happining is because you only changed one xml file from x: to E:. this installer package uses several xml files, and they all work together, so if you change one, and not the others (found in the zip files), this installer will fail on you. The 007 did not suffer the blank C: issue that I am aware of, only the MA did. I will look further into this just to be sure that there is no hidden issue in 007 that never came up until now.

It gives the option of run linus the old softmod (uxe french) and then Install linus as the new softmod (blackwar), but this is probably why it is screwing it up.  So thanks i will try again by deleting it and starting fresh. But that is about the right file size though?

If you got it using the clues from my site, then it is the correct one. Yes, mine also says "run linux", I have tried changing this (I had to use an other MA installer and modify it for my needs), but when I try to change the gamesave name, the "gamesave" wont even load up.

It is required that the C: be completely stock (no exploit installed at all) in order for this to work properly.

Also, has anybody had any problems with this latest release yet? If so please post them here or PM me about it so I know if it is safe to move on to the SC installer or not.

i've hotswapped your installer on to my xbox hd. everytime i used AR, the exploits woudn't work(this is before i found your installer). now i kind of did shite a little fu#$%d up. but i did access my drive, the installer is on there, i made a back up of /c and thats it. i used xboxhdm to put your file on during the hotswap. thats what i understood to do, considering AR wouldn't cooperate as i thought it would. now that i have your installer on there via hotswap, i thought it would function the same as any other mech assult/installer. i chose run linux and it says it don't load. i saw recently in another forum that if you have a 1.6, which i have, that you hit x to run linux. But i recall the reply after my first post here, that thats not what i do.
i am burned out from all the reading and frankly confused. what do i do now. its bad enough now that the hotswap ruined my k7s5a motherboard lol. my hd's don't pick up correctly anymore. the hd's weren't even part of the swap. the hd's are fine, i checked in another pc. it wount let you back up the eeprom? odd... I have heard many good results from others using that app to backup the eeprom, and that is why I stuck with it. In order to contunue using the installer, the backup is not required, its optional, but its a good idea to do so. If you want to install the exploit on a stock xbox that has never been opened before, just go into stock HD options and then hit stock HD install. the installer will walk you through the rest.

as for the bonus thing, it is not included yet, I want to be sure that almost all of the kinks are worked out in MA and SC is done, and then the bonus will be added in. The bonus itself is nothing big or special at all, more of an addition to get the xbox play DVD movies after the package is ran. This is to help newbs out that wish to softmod there xbox just to play dvd movies. BUT, to warn you, I am not 100% rock solid on the dvd player software. If the software pushes the size over the 8MB mark, then it will not be included. I hav intended this installer to mainly be newb safe and friendly, and easy to use and to get on the xbox by AR software, which means that the size cannot be over the 8MB mark (not everybody has a 16MB memory card or a thumbdrive to use on the xbox).

the 2 tier backup worked for me!
1st backup steps one and 2 ... allowed me to ftp and copy x drive that had C drive and epprom
2nd backup puts copy of epprom in Udata folder in game save so you can transfer it to memory card.
It's hard to know when Newbie's write here .. if they know where or how to backup.
After I do the Blackwar install ... and restart xbox... all the stuff on X drive goes away ... the time to do the 1st backup is as I write above in steps 1 and 2 ... before you proceed to INSTALL ... because after INSTALL ... I think you will be engaging Shadow C ... so do as BlackWar suggests and FTP new xbox to PC ... and after install you will see epprom info when you access MS Dash in Memory Slots.

BlackWar!
Thanks for the heads up about the bonus only being dvd playback ... I use XBMC so I don't need that feature ... and ... I agree with you making the Installer Less than 8 megs should be TOP priority.
Others can always  FTP new stuff to their xbox after it's softmodded or use slayer's 2.6 to add apps if they want.

I like it!
I was wondering if you could include a Format F and Format G option in unleash program...  that way Newbie's can't screw anything up (don't include Format C or E drive )
Regular version of unleash has it and in NEW Stock HD's F and G read 0 ... of course I used a program that formatted them... but ... it would be nice to have that option in unleash.
I like 1.4 better than 1.3 ... I liked the NEW options you included  in unleash... I think I will keep that dash... I had replaced it with xbmc when I was useing 1.3 version  ... but I like how you updated it in version 1.4!
Newbie's should be Kissing your  Ring ... how much easier can you make it for xbox LOVERS! wink.gif

is that a working xbox before you installed anything?
now that i installed version 1.4 i'm not sure it's x drive anymore ... I see in 1.4 after install in E drive he has folder called "stock C drive" ... but Blackwar says to save c,e,f drive in new installer... so do that... I have backup from 1.3 so I didn't ftp again... since epprom info is already there.

Can you explain what you did in the past with that xbox?

Was it stock C drive?

Did you try other installers?

If the regular install works... then load from dvd drive ...slayers 2.6 and 1st option in slayers is save epprom and it will backup epprom on c drive in backup folder.

It's hard to tell what you did ... maybe state in 1, 2,3 steps ... so some of us can figure out what you did wrong ?

ok. so here;'s what it says:

-a backup of the current eeprom contents was saved to: c:\eeprombackup.bin
-please press the a button to continue with the next step
-press the x button to quit

so i press the a button.

-ERROR!!!
------------
-C:\eeprom.bin could not be opened. please check and make sure this EEPROM image file exists and is valid!!
-EEPROMagic resores the XBOX EEPROMfrom the c:\eeprom.bin file. this file has to exist and should contain a valid eeprom image before the XBOX eeprom can be restored
-press the x button to quit.

it saves to eeprombackup.bin, yet it's trying to read the (i would imagine) original eeprom? or is it just trying to find the wrong file. maybe it should be looking for eeprombackup.bin instead?

-marky

oh and so i press x to quit and it tells me this:

-thank you for using EEPROMagic!
-press the x button to power down ur xbox
-=undead=-

and this is where the igr doesnt work for me

[edit] I'M OPENING A CHANNEL ON IRC ON EFFNET. #marky-b if you can help, or if you wnat to watch, plz join! [/edit]

yea, i did read that part, but after it had been backed up, the options it gives me are to a=continue or x=exit [NOT SHUT DOWN] ... so that got me a bit fogged up.

also, i have tried doing the igr at this point before, but even that doesnt work. is there a possibility that igr is turned off? and where can i turn it back on?

BlackWar!
Good points you made.
I am useing stock hard drive and so I used stock hard drive install... but as you say ... you had big hard drive ... and used the big hard drive install so F is formated.

I did have to format my F drive useing another program  and I get 2 gig's more space... but I understand your reasoning ... do you suggest Big Hard Drive install for people who are using Stock Hard Drive and that  want the extra 2 gig's?  Is their a Downside to makeing a F drive on a Stock hard drive?  When I go back to MS Stock to play LIVE would that be a problem ...having F drive?  Up till now ...probably not ...but who knows?

you must have been one of the fortunite few that got an xbox with a 10 gig HD. Most xbox comes with an 8 gig HD, and all 8 are used by the xbox. That is why though that I ahve it set up to use E: for everything on a stock HD, not all stock HD's have that extra 2 gig to use, so to play it safe, I took the route I did.

as for playing xbl, as long as what the other senior members states is true, by uninstalling to play on live, and then using the re-install option *should* be completely safe. again, I am not going to make any garintees on this, because in theory your C: is back to 100% stock, so you should be safe, but some sellect few still seem to beleave that they scan your HD and if you have anything questionable installed (like an apps or games folder in E:), then you get banned.

Like it is stated in the readme, once you use an exploit on an xbox, you are taking the possable chance of being banned and assuming the risk of it. the only real true way to not be banned is to use a 100% vergin xbox.

perhaps someone can give me a hand here.

I did a hotswap & was trying to use xboxhda to move the files to my xbox hdd but every time I go to move the files, I get an error saying that one file cant be moved due to an invalid arguement.

I burned the file to the same disk as the xboxhda & now I have what looks like the default.xbe getting corrupted during the burn process & xboxhda shows the name of the file as default.xbe1rr
I have created the ISO and reburned it to different media
I used ulraISO to add the installer to the original ISO & used alcohol120% to burn the iso.
I have double checked that file on other computers & they all read the file correctly.

can someone give me a pointer as to what is going on here?

Right....its working now, had a quick play.

Well done all concerned.

Now how do enable the High definition modes on a PAL Xbox connected via component?

Enabled 480p, 720p and 1080i modes in the System menu but still only runs in either 480i or 576i on my LCD TV (which is HD ready). Am I missing a setting?

I did get the backup of the stock c... at least it says that I have that backup.
Ill dig around in there for that & see if i can find the eeprom file in the saves...

but from what you are saying, it sounds like I can not run the installer again & back it up that way (because its not the original any longer) If i got what you are saying correctly.

and Jakegame:
yes, its a sotware installer & its very very easy to do if you just follow the instructions explicitly.

alright everyone, the version that you have been waiting for is now out! SC PAL and NTSC have both been released! here is whats new/changed (in all installers):

Changes:
Installer name has been changed to BWI. this should help make it easer to find in the gamesave manager.
The gamesave icons have also been changed (all versions) to match the gamesave (thanks again jcupp114!).
Included (in all versions) is a new option. If you look in the system section, you will now see "Fix Broken C:", this should help fix the "empty/missing C:" issue.

Upgrading:
To upgrade from an older version to this one you must (in this order)
1: Run the Restore HD option
2: Remove the old gamesave from the xbox
3: Get the new gamesave on the xbox
4: Run the Re-install option.

As always if anything comes up (dont work, screws up xbox, tries to contact "mother gates", ect) be sure to either post it here or to PM me about it.

TC and have fun peeps!

I think I need a little advice for the new SC installer.  I am getting a blank screen when trying to use it (BWI-SC).

I have a newer virgin box and am using AR card and software to transfer the saves.  The only thing I currently have on the drive are about 10 gamesaves from various games(not SC).  When I transferred BWI-SC 1&2 to the Xbox HD, there are two folders:  one is 15 blocks with a save of 4 blocks( I re-copied the files and the folder changed to 13 blocks with a save of 5 blocks).  Two is 412 blocks with a save of 404 blocks ( I re-copied these files also and the folder changed to 413 blocks with a save of 404 blocks).

After loading SC and selecting check points, the screen turns blank and it just hangs at this point.  The light on the Xbox stays solid green and never changes.  From here I am forced to just reboot.

I dont know what I can do to get past this point.  I have tried deleting the saves and re-copying them over with no luck.  I have a feeling the gamesaves are being corrupted by the AR card.  I have tried copying the save from my computer into the 'pc database' and the 'memory card' folders in the AR software.  I have also reformatted the card in between each attempt.
I tried to install it many times with the same results.

Somebody please hit me with some good news.  Maybe I am missing something here?

Thanks-
bR

Already have files on F: but want to install this installer.....
The best option here is to either install the stock HD option and then edit the xml file to fit your needs (inable F: partition, ect.)

thats what i did (E:\CurrentDash\config.xml)
<EnableDriveF>True</EnableDriveF>
<EnableDriveG>True</EnableDriveG>
did not work...
in that setup is nkpatcher compiled without lba support ?

QUOTE
With the gamesave loaded, FTP into the xbox and create the folder "E:\CurrentDash". Then copy the unleashx.xbe into that folder and rename it to default.xbe. You then can use the re-install large HD option and all of your files on F: should be safe. Please keep in mind that it is a very, very good idea that the files in C: are 100% stock before you do this option though, or else you may run into problems down the road.

will i get F:\ and G:\  (nkpatcher.67) ?????????

no harm was done just uninstalled stock HDD
and every thing is fine  smile.gif

it very well could be an AR problem. AR memory cards are known to "dislike" savegame exploits. See if somebody you know can borrow you their memory card and give that a try.

both versions of NKpatcher should be compiled with lba support (note, should be, but it has been a while ago that I compiled them, so I could be mistakin). to inable the F: support in unleashx, you need to go under its settings (or edit the xml file, which ever you prefer.), but I think I compiled the stock HD nkpatcher to not use F: (becasue it is ment to be used on a stock HD). If you really want, you can can install it, and while the exploit gamesave is still running, replace the nkpatcher with the one that is in the NKF zip file.

as for the DVD not playing movies anymore, you may need to re-setup unleashx to point to the dvd player sofware that you had. go into the the config settings and change it to the default.xbe that played your movies:

DVD: E:\Apps\XBMC\default.xbe
Title: The Blackwar Installer

Thanks for the reply.

Is DVD: E:\Apps\XBMC\default.xbe the dvd player from the MS dash? I didn't have any other dvd player software on there before other than this.

I'm guessing the config settings is a file which needs to be edited on my PC?

I have read that when using a crossover cable to network my pc and xbox with this installer, I will need to edit the config.ini file for the installer to achieve a static ip for the xbox.  Does this mean that I need to unzip the installer, edit the ini file, re-zip the files, and then re-transfer the save to the xbox?  Is this correct?  I pulled up the config.ini and I see where it says DHCP enabled, but I dont know how to edit it.

Sorry if this is a n00bish problem, I know very little about networking.  I would really like to get this thing softmodded today if possible.

Thanks

I just noticed myself that the web page is down. I will try to get it resolved asap.

EDIT: My IP changed, now fixed.

for the installer part, yes you need to unzip the installer and edit the xml file to the static IP you need to use.

The black screen of terror still confuses me. I myself have a 1.6 xbox and it worked fine. granted, you do get a black screen for about 3~5 seconds, but if you wait it out it should work. I am not ruling out the possability that something is wrong however. MA has been known to be a little picky at times.

Ok, so I circumvented the problem.. but I have a new question to ask... here's what I did

First, I unlocked the hard drive in MY Xbox (remember it's my friends that's messed up)...

Then, I used XboxHDM to Re-lock the drive using my friends eeprom....

I put my HD in his box.. worked fine... so I backed up my HD on to my comp.... made the XBOXHDM boot CD, and went in and set up his new hard drive....

Throw in the new hard drive.. it boots to MSDash... which is weird, cause I have blackwars installed on my HD... I look at the memory manager, and unleashX is there....

I just realized... I only backed up C and E for the HD upgrade... but my blackwars install is the Large HD install, so most of it is on F....

Anyway, I reinstalled blackwars on his Xbox, worked fine.... BUT, am I going to have future issues restoring it to "true factory state" because it didn't sense the blackwars that was already installed on this HD? Any input?

Again, Krayzie (and all of you other guru's out there) Thanks so much for helping us lower intellects understand and navigate through this xbox modding maze... you guys are awesome.

Hopefully someone can help.

I've been using the Blackwar 1.3 MA installer for the last month or so.  I've done 5 xboxs to date and all have gone perfect.

Today, I got an xbox from a friend (4-24-02 mfg date) to help him out.  I started going through the steps and have encountered a problem.  It is claming it's not a stock HD and will not continue.

Things different on this unit vs. others:  New memory card is being used.  I sold the previous one I was using and had to get another.

I loaded up MA and go into Blackwar's installer.  Backed up the EEProm and ran the HD backup.  I have FTP'ed all partitions to my harddrive before doing anything and after running the EEProm backup and HD backup.

So, at this point I select Stock HD and install.  I get an error that says "Aborting.  Last action: Not a stock HD."  At this point, I tried to uninstall and it gave the same error msg.

This is a stock drive and the machine has never been opened.  I can say this for certain.

If someone has any guesses here, that would be great.   If no one wants/can help, I'll look through some other exploits tomorrow.  I can FTP into the unit just fine, so I'm thinking there's other options.

I did want to mention this to hopefully find a solution.  I also though Blackwar might want to see this (although I doubt it's anything new).  I looked over a bunch of pages but didn't see this problem mentioned.  Hopefully I'm not asking something that has been asked 100 times before.

Thanks for any and all help.  This is a great community.

It appears to load:

1)
D:\default.xbe
...
...
m)
E:\CurrentDash\Default.xbe
n)

Is there anything between "1)" and "m)"? Is there and "n)" and some paths after that?

(It would be nice to have a backup dash on the hd in case the CurrentDash folder is deleted or something)

Is there a way to do a hotswap and copy over the Blackwar Softmod to a virgin xbox?
It should be possible but I am just not sure exactly how to do it as I cannot look at the content of the real C: drive on my other softmodded due to the shadow C: thing.

Shouldn't it just be a matter of copying over some files from C: and some files from E:?
So... What files would that be? An can I find them inside the savegame archive?

I really hope someone can help.

I'm not familiar with Blackwar's but it sounds like some files on the hd are missing/incorrect. Does the dash needs to be upgraded to a higher version maybe. You are always welcome to try my installer and see if that works.

did you backup your files like the the exploit told you to before installing? you need to coldboot an exploited game and load the save before you can restore the C drive.

Just use Krayzies installer.  It is very similar to Blackwars but offers a few extra features, and you can find it on xbins.
