yeah, when it boots up i get an "05" error.
where can i get a floppy version of hdlock? from the usual place? if so, i already have the 40 chr written down, so i would just hook the hd up, disconnect all HD's and CD/DVD drives, boot up from the floppy and go from there?
i'm pretty sure i understand you correctly xman, but if what i have written above is incorrect, please let me know.
editi found where to make the floppy in xboxhdm, but is there anything i need to put on to the floppy, like my eeprom or the hdd.txt file?
you have the password and thats all you need
good luck, gota go to work
xman, when you get back from work, i could use your help one more time!
i shut the computer down and disconnected my dvd drive, cdrw drive, and both of my computer hard drives. i hooked up power and ata cable into the xbox HD, put the floppy in the drive and booted up. once i got to the A prompt, i typed "lockhd -a" and i received a message "password not founf." and it brought me back to the A prompt. so i typed in "atapwd" and it brought me to a screen where it said it was detecting drives. after about 5 seconds, it brought up a screen and had my xbox HD at the top. i hit enter after selecting the drive (the only drive in the list) and i had 2 options:
Security Command Set
S.M.A.R.T Command Set
i have no idea what to select at this point. i did go into both menus and wrote down everything that was in them, hoping somebody can help me out so i can get my xbox up and running again.
Under the "Security Command Set" were the following options:
set master password
set user password
Unlock with master password
unlock with user password
disable with master password
disable with user password
freeze lock
erase prepare
erase unit
under the "S.M.A.R.T Command Set" were the following options:
enable operations
disable operations
return status
read attributes
enable attributes autosave
disable attributes autosave
execute short selftest
execute long selftest
read selftest log
read error log
read log directory
here's my problem: i need to lock my xbox hard drive, that's it. I'm not sure what i should do???
anybody, anybody at all????
somebody out there has got to know what to do here!!!
lockhd -a is if the eeprom is in the floppy
if the eeprom isnt there use lockhd -p (password here without perenthesies)
PS: you dont need to borrow a computer, you just need to use it for about 10 minutes

i did use the 40 digit password, and i didn't try the 32 digit... maybe i should just get a modchip installed
anybody out there know what i'm talking about???
So wait... why can't you use regular xboxhdm?
His computer froze the lock, and he cant find a way to unfreeze it.
Is there any windows application that can do locking? if there is, you can set the windows to turn off the hard drive then turn it back on and try locking it
ipodder, i'm not sure what happened, but my xbox HD is locked and i can't unlock it.
panthor says that it's possible that i can unlock it by plugging in the power into the hard drive after i turn the computer on. he also warns about getting shocked... so i'm not really wanting to do this, but if there's no other option, i might just do it.
here's a link to what panthor was talking about CLICK HERE
uesc, what happend is some bios do a freeze lock, like the text i sent you. The freeze lock is a protection so it isnt accedently locked (or maybe a virus lock it?). Most of them however can turn it off by disabling auto detection. But your bios doesnt support it. That is what happend, what you need to do now, is find a way to trick it, or do it on a different computer
i'm gonna try panthor's method...
Wish me luck, and i hope i don't get fried!!!!
Hard drive's using the locking feature usually freeze up if they've been accessed without being unlocked, or have tried to be unlocked with bad keys. This is to stop you from brute-forcing the key (Eg, try key 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and so forth). After 3 bad keys the drive simply stops responding. I've heard before its even possible to permanently freeze a hard drive for maximum security but it isn't that frequent.
Usually a quick reboot will fix this. Sometimes you need to plug in the drive at the PC BIOS detection screen to bypass some other freeze causing commands.

and ricecake: i have the 40 digit password written down and i checked it 2 times before i started using it. should i use the 30 digit password instead or something?
what about a mod chip? if i had one installed, would i be able to do anything i haven't been able to do up to this point?
please help
With a mod chip, your drive does NOT need to be locked. But try pluging in the ata cable while the pc is booting up, maybe that will do something?
What baout, if your REALLY brave, unplug it while on, and plug it back in, but that is if your really brave.
i did that, it doesn't work (at least for me) if tankertux replies to my PM, then i'll have this problem solved. or if anybody reading this is from missouri and can help with a mod chip install, i'd appreciate it.
have you got it locked yet?

i have a x3 on order right now so i'm going that way. the chip will lock my hd for me so i won't need to mess with it anymore
is it solderless?
the x3 come with a solderless adapter i believe, but i'm not sure if i'm going with that method. my xbox is a 1.0, so the LPC port is filled, i'll need to get the solder out of the holes no matter i i got with solderless or solder. i just gotta wait until the chip gets here or find somebodys computer that they would let me take apart (haven't found anybody yet)
you cant use solderless on a 1.0?
no, you can, but with the solderless adapter, you still need the LPC pins to go through the LPC port, and since mine is filled with solder (from MS) i would have to unsolder the holes to use the "solderless" adapter.
(not 100% sure on that though)
