Title: How Do I Use A Different Bios
Post by: mgillaus on September 15, 2003, 08:16:00 PM
you need to use xbtool to make the bios BFM, bootable from media and i think you have to put the RC4 key in the config file for xbtool, then save it and put it on over the top of xboxrom.bin

Ok i have already the BFM eject fix bios.  I'm still having problems though.  I've already used xbtool to make it look for the evox dash in E/Udata etc.  I'm pretty sure i'm not putting the rc4 key right.  The one on the boot.cfg file has alot of 0x82 etc.  this is the cfg file that comes with the collection.  Is this the right rc4 or is it a different one?

why do you need to edit the bios to look there... just create a copy of evox on the root:c partition and have it boot from there... it's a lot easier... i now only use the evox dash located in my UDATA folder if i screw something up in the boot sequence and need to fix it.

bottom line: use the root:C it's a lot easier to naivgate and a lot easier to modify.
you DO want it to boot to evox, right?

leave evox dash name as default.xbe and leave the xbox dashboard as xboxdash.xbe (i assume that you're using the font hacks?) and use the phoenix bios loader with a BFM bios to boot.  you shouldn't have to change anything in the bios!

Ok bottomline for me is that I really would rather that the xbox functioned as normal until called upon....hence I wanted to incorporate it into only the gamesave.  This is possible right?

I'm just trying to figure out what my error is.  The RC4 key in the boot cfg is the same as the one in the "collection" folder.  I've also double checked it by unpacking the bios.  When I used xbtool on the bios I put the E:udata/4dnumbers/6whatever/EVO.xbe (my evoxdash.xbe says just evo.xbe)  for the first option.

I've played with different combinations to figure out what is wrong.  Most of the time I get an "error loading rom" displayed after the pheonix emblem comes up.  Sometimes I get an error 21.  I just dont see why I can't figure this out.  I signed the default.xbe with habibi and renamed the out.xbe to default and slaved it over.  What could I be missing here?
