Title: Cant Get Xboxdash.xbe To Load Msdashboard
Post by: mnm6687 on August 01, 2003, 11:42:00 PM
from everything that i've read, it seems like anyone who puts the modified M$ dashboard in E:\ has problems.  i dont know why, but anyone who puts xboxdash.xbe in the E drive and has evox.ini point to it has problems.  what i did was simply rename the modified xboxdash.xbe to msdash.xbe, and put it in C:\ and had evox.ini point to C:\msdash.xbe

see if this works for you; it should

which xtf files are you renaming? the ones in the C:\ root or the ones in the C:\fonts folder?  if you have a fonts folder, rename the xtf files in there not the ones in the C:\ root.

also make sure you hexedited correctly.  and you do not need to sign the modified dashboard if you are using the x2 4977 bios with PBL.

I've also had no luck trying to access the MS dashboard using the Bert & Ernie / phoenix bios loader.

I've tried making a copy in C drive called msdash.xbe, signing it, and pointing evox.ini to that one.  Still doesn't work (just reboots back into evox).

I'm in the same position as you Envisage, in that I have an HDTV and really want to enable the right video settings for it, but can't get into the dashboard.

Anyone found a way to get the MS dashboard yet?

Tellure

If you do what I did, you'll be able to set your HD settings, at least they'll be set until such time as someone figures out the fix for this.

Yeah, I was considering doing what you did and removing the hack to change the settings, then putting it back.  I just wanted to avoid the hassle of renting 007 again if there was a more permanent solution smile.gif.

BTW.. aren't the video settings stored in some file somewhere on C drive?  Can't we just grab that file and edit it (maybe HEX edit it?) to change the settings?

Im struggling with this too.

The best I can get is either it drops back to the EvoX dash, or it goes to the Xbox Green "Contact Customer Support" screen.

Same set up as above, pheonix loader, Mechassault hack

any help would be most welcome

ok you have too
1.hex edit xboxdash.xbe and change all references from XTF too XFT,and save somewhere else. do NOT overwrite the original.
2.SIGN IT
3.rename xbox.xtf too xbox.xft and xbox book.xtf too xbox book.xft(in the C:/FONTS/ folder
4.Direct evox too it.

oik... ill draw you a little text picture for ya... in the order that it works
xbox boots, boot xboxdash.xbe, xboxdash.xbe says HEY I NEED SOME FONTS!, get xbox.xtf and xbox book.xtf, (im a little ocnfused about this part...) if not there find a substitute? or if thats not it it jsut laods all the fonts on the xbox at one time, bert and ernie tell it to run default.xbe, then fromt here youre at the evox screen... now you have ot hex edit the xboxdahs.xbe to read the fonts you renamed... its really simple

Ok I did that, went through the xboxdash.xbe and found there were a few .xtf refrences in there, so I changed them. Port the new file back over, did a reset, MXM loaded again, launched dashboard and it came up perfect. Configured it for EvoX, swtiched from MXM to EvoX and it worked there too. Rebooted the Xbox, and now I'm looking at error 13 !!! What did I do wrong here?

There is a much easier way...........

If you leave your original font files alone but also copy bert and ernie to the same dir phoenix will load and so will ms dash when you tell it to.

ok here is a little something else i found i think this is what you want i hope it helps you

TUTORIAL - Make Xbox Live menu load evo-X
or phoenix...may fix time problem...
EDIT: Think u gotta use bigfonts 2 fix time, u can still use any font 4 this tho

TUTORIAL: How to run EvoX or Phoenix when you click on XBOX LIVE

Note, I would like for someone to test this to see if it can fix time or if it still restarts
Note, to use it with other apps (signed woth free-x) you may do by replacing the corresponding file
Also it would be useful if someone found out how to change live to say EvoX like the linux ppl did to make it say linux

OK, so you want to run Evo-X and when you click on Xbox Live

Firstly you will need the following:

Phoenix
Evo-X
Fonts exploit
4920 dashboard

OK, firstly load evo-x in the usual manner and use any FTP or file manager to go C/xodash

here you will find xonlinedash.xbe, rename this to xonlinedash-backup.xbe

Secondly go to the phoenix files and upload: default.xbe, phoenix.raw,
and boot.cfg, xboxrom.bin to c/xodash
rename default.xbe to xonlinedash.xbe

Then you upload evox.ini evoxdash.xbe and Skin to C/
Also create a hacked version of the MS dashboard which reads XFT files, upload the xft files to the fonts folder and also make sure you have bert.xtf and ernie.xtf (no other .xtf files).
Put the hacked xbox dashboard to c: and call it default.xbe
(DO NOT OVERWRITE XBOXDASH.XBE OR YOU WONT BE ABLE TO USE ANY hack as xBOX WONT BOOT)
Then restart and when you click on Xbox Live EvoX loads, Happy playing

Written By me, Jason
P.S. anyone know how to rename the Xbox Live to EvoX like the linux guys changed ut to Linux

(known as jason/jason 987 on some forums lolz)

I used Signed_Phoenix_Bios_Loader_V1.3.rar which already includes xboxrom.bin (X2 4977). Where / how can I find data that's needed for boot.conf (that is RC4 key, EEPROMKey1_0 and EEPROMKey1_1) so XBOX would run with other BFM bioses as well?? Xbtool won't give me any info about RC4?!

tnx in advance
