Thanks for this GREAT Tutorial!!!
FYI, made my own Xbox to USB cable this week-end (using one of my controllers break away cable and a spare standard USB cable).
Used Xtcrl drivers to get Action Replay to recognize the xbox controller. And was about to go out and buy an xbox memory card.
But then I hooked up the xbox/usb cable up to a USB Compact Flash reader I have (Accomdata brand that I got from Staples for $2-3 on sale). Used that and managed to Xbox format both a 16meg and 256meg CF card. Used USBIO (you can also use a freeware program called USB View) and configured the reader as an Action Replay!!!
Using my makeshift xbox memory card, I used Morden's Audio Exploit (Splinter Cell with MechAssault code), plus updating my dash to 4290 (that stumped me for quite a while), and have set up my Xbox with XBMP and have played DivX, XviD and mp3s of SMB shares on my win2k PC!!!
Now if only I can figure out why my Video playback freezes in XBMP and I have to reboot to finish watching movies!!!
hey, i am kind of new to all this but if i am right you should be able to save this to your xbox hardrive right????
Got it working, what exactly do I DO inside the action replay software?
When I try to drop it in it says its not a valid xbox save.

Hmmm is anyone still reading this? Anyways, i wanted to add my little bit here. The reason you want to "make your own" is really to save a few bucks right? Why spend 29.99 on a MS memory card when you can buy a cheapo no name thrustmaster memory card for 14.00 i hear some places you can buy ms memory cards for 25.00 bucks but even still being able to use a cheap o memory card should save you at least 10 bucks so here are the steps to get said "cheap-o-memory card"to work with Action replay drivers.
1. Get usbview.exe google it it's easy to find.
2. Attach your controler and install it(you should have no problem here)
3. Attach your cheap-o-memory card(this is where the trouble starts)
at this point you deviate from the standard tutorial if your cheap-o-memory card is not supported.
4. Once the "found new device" warning pops up open up usbview.exe do not install drivers!
5. You should find an unnamed "device" connected right with your xbox controler select this pane and look for "idVendor" and "idProduct".
6. Go to where you installed Action replay and inside the folder "drivers" open up the file "xbreader.inf" with notepad or txtpad in there find the sectiong that has this:
[_Devices]
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
Take note of "VID"=idVendor "PID"=idProduct!
wow how simple was that?
7.copy the last line and paste it on the next empty line so it should look like this
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
8. Replace the lines info with what USBview gives you for instance my 14.00 cheap-o-memory card info was this:
idVendor 044F
idProduct 0F0C
so the last line should look like
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C
so now your segment should look like this
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C
9. Save the file and try to make windows search for the driver again!
10. Use your 10.00 to 15.00 saved to buy a copy of 007:AUF!
Right please direct me to the right place if this has already bin answered but im trying to do the 007 hack and i cant get my pc to accept the new xbox controller.
I understand everything about how the 007 hack works
I have...
007:AUF
Ms Memory Card
Ms Controller
Ethernet Crossover cable
USB cable i used for my old digital camera, has a USB>Square end
all the required files on my pc including:
007 save hack files
Evox files
xctrl driver ini file
Action reply drivers and software
So i think im set
I snipped the end off my xbox controller extention
Plugged my xbox controller into there with memory card out of it
stripped and seperated the coloured wires inside the extention end
Snipped the square end off my usb cable leaving the USB end still on
Stripped and seperated the colours wires inside it
Matched up the colours on the USB and the controller extention and twisted them together.
Red = Red
White = White
Black = Black
Green = Green
Yellow = Snipped
Silver coating snipped off as it complicates things.
Right so now i have an XBOX controller with a USB end.
Xbox controller > Inline Release >CUT **Twisted copper wires** > CUT USBmale > Computer
I plug into the PC xctrl at the ready and action reply software installed.
WINDOWS XP: "USB DEVICE FOUND"
WINDOWS XP: "Unknown Device"
(please not when tried on my friends computer windows xp pro: "The device was not recognised or there was a malfunction with this device"
So i think, right i'll need to tell it where the xctrl drivers are
(their in c:\windows\desktop\xctrl\xctrl.ini)
so i go to device manager
____________usb host devices
_______________unknown device
__________________properties
_____________________UPDATE DRIVER [button]
________________________Search for driver in....
_____________________________"../desktop\xctrl\"
NEXT
___"SEARCHING FOR DRIVERS"
...
____"Could not find drivers for unknown device"
so i try and specicially tell it specically where my driver is (ini file)
ITS IN F*CKING DESKTOP/XCTRL/XCTRL.INI
"This file does not contain driver information about your device"
Ok so lets try USBview
[Port1] USB MODEM
[Port2] DeviceFailedEnumeration: Unknown Device (this is where the wire is plugged in)
All values in port two are similar to 0000 or 0x000 or 0x00
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!
What am i doing wrong?
I have tried minicontroller HID drivers or wateva they are called and that still doesnt work. This has happened on 3 computers i have tried it on and ive tried a different USB wire incase it was that but it still doesnt work.
[email protected] > MSNM, Email
please reply when you can.

Hey, I wanted to give a shout out to Torrance from the page before this one on how to get your USB key to be a "Action Replay Card." I went through the steps and got it to be as such, but Action Replay software didn't recongize my card even though Device Manger said so. I'm assuming it could just be my card, so I just wanted to second this process. Good Job!
Update: I just tried it with a 16 CF card I had lying around and it worked! Hoot!

Whoops, just an update ... the way I made my cable, I spliced both ends of the usb cable into the Xbox break-away cable, thinking that I can get separate cables to access my memory card on the Xbox and use an Xbox controller for my pc, and still attach them back together to use for the controller (making for a longer cable) on the Xbox. Up till now, I never bothered testing the cable for the controller (having 4). Well, seems it doesn't work not having the yellow wire bridged through the USB connection. This is what I did:
Cable 1
a) xbox connection <-----> b) usb female
a) connected to Xbox
b) USB female memory card reader
Cable 2
c) usb male <-----> d) xbox breakaway
c) USB male to PC
d) Xbox Controller
Attach Cable 1 & 2 together via USB for use for Xbox and controller
Anyone can confirm the need for the yellow wire to indicate to the Xbox the controller is attached? I read that it was only to indicate what type of controller and wasn't needed, but it seems more than that in my case.

anyone know if this works on xp pro?
Tomlad, as well as I got an unrecognized device found, so anyone know? thanks
As anybody done this with a USB2 cable, or know if it will work??
I've got a crap load of those things laying around.

hey,
having some problems with this
actually exactly the same as "tomlad" from page 17 in red text
i have xctrl drivers but my pc refuses to accept them
when using usbview i see it says this : DeviceFailedEnumeration
i have tested it on another pc of similar specifications yet the same thing happens
ive have checked and rechecked and checked some more that there are no shorts, i even reconnected up the cables to their original ends to test that they still work and they do
any help would be great
Okay, I'd like to pose a question. Not sure if anyone's mentioned it in the 17 pages preceeding this... Read the first two or three pages and got bored.
Anyway, I was wondering... isn't the end of the breakaway cable that fits into the controller port of the XBox simply a beefed up USB connector? If you simply ripped off all that plastic shiot, shouldn't it work?
No you shouldn't see it in My computer. And also.. i prefer XCTRL..but since it's illegal..
between page 2 and 5 I think that card was mentioned.
Sorry to bump this, but I have a USB 128 mb lexar drive and I have formatted it by hooking it to the xbox with a USB to xbox cable, and then I did the ozmemory or whatever and made it a action replay card. Action Reply still won't recognize it. Does anyone know what I need to do?
Coincidentally, I have a Lexar USB Drive and I too am looking into this same exact thing. I have a save game exploit that I wish to put on my usb drive from my pc and I can't figure out the problem. It looks like you were about 30 minutes behind me because I've been searchign for about an hour.. and you posted an hour ago.
What a coincidence!
If someone finds something.. please let us know.
I have a post about this here.
Edit: Click the link for the answer (kinda).
Please can anyone help........
I have problems when extracting the enigmah video selector to my pc. Is it meant to extract fully on a pc? if not does it stay as a rar?
when i try to transfer the gamesave, with the rar inside, it will not accept it in action replay!
if this is a bad copy of enigmah could u please point me in the right direction for a good one please?
thanx
rar can't not be write by action replay..you have to extract it all the way
ok, so ive extracted it all the way..what do i have to convert it too so that AR will recognise it? zip? i have also read that i need to delete files before i convert the save.
BTW: i am doing this exploit for one reason only......HDTV!!
please can anyone help?
thanx
sorry i don' tknow..i never used action replay before..this is what you should do...make a new post so that more ppl can realize that you have this issue instead of posting it here...this is cold post now...well practically...so just make a new post for your issues...
Thanks for the Xctrl control link. Ive had a real hard time finding it. I had no idea it was illegal, why is it?
Im currently using Xctrl for prince of persia and im using the left thumbstick to move around. It works great but the only probelm is that when you try and move the thumbstick diagonaly, it causes the character to walk very slowly instead of running which gets very frustrating. I dont know if this is down to the game or Xctrl. Has anyone else had this problem in a game and would those other drivers fix the problem?
just like to add DO NOT TRY SAVE EXPLOIT WITH NUBY MEM CARDS!!!
they do not work
I got to try it with an interact memory unit though because i do not have an offical m$ memory unit
THANK YOU vintage_guitar!!!!! This is exactly what I have been looking for. Especially the drivers for the controller (I've been searching everywhere for those!). I did have a little snag with the AR software concerning memory card drivers. It couldn't find them, i'd point it to them and it wouldn't recognize them. and then when it finally did find them it kept wanting me to install a disc. I unloaded and reloaded the program, tried manually installing, nothing worked. Finally I deleted all the action replay 1.5 stuff off my hdd and loaded a copy of AR version 1.3 that I found somewhere on this site. Still told me "no drivers, install disc", tried again and it found the drivers and installed them.
Works great now!
(I used a M$ memory card and controller and win98SE.)
vintage_guitar,
Can you point me to a link for AR version for PAL. I currently have v.13 but I suspect my memory does not work with 1.3.
thank heaps
Great Tutorial Vintage Guitar worked a treat everything recognised by my P.C using an official memory card can't thank you enough ....just having trouble with "This is not a valid Xbox Save " error now i'll keep hunting round though something should come up thx again it is Greatly Aprreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As i said before Fantastic tute there Vintage fixed the error by finding the "REAL" save that had already been prepared for AR i now have it on my memory card and am about to go and scare the shit out of my friends and please a lot of kids thx again man i'll update when i have completed my first Xbox soft mod w00h00
I don't know if anyone with the cheapo inter~act mem cards have got it to work yet but I did:)
followed instructions from the 1st post exactly and added the line below to my xbreader.inf file after I installed action replay but before I tried to install the mem card. Works like a champ xfering files to my xbox and from it...
[_Devices]
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_1316 <-------added this line
Hope this may help someone having probs
peace out

can someone tell me how to get the mechassault saves on a usb flash drive, i can get the saves on it that are in a fatx image, but i can't get the regular files on it.
Hi does anyone know what I have to add to the xbreader to get the drivers installed so my cheapo gamester memory card works thanks dudes
Right I've got that done now but I'm stuck again now how do I get my splinter cell zip file onto the action replay it keeps saying this i not an xbox save file or something like that. Cheers dude
can u just make a usb controller thing and use a regular memory card to transfer stuff or can u just connect the usb to comp and controller to xbox and transfer stuff that way
i mean use like a digital cam mem card
w00t
u have a madcatz mem card how do i use it with ar
again its me
i figured out that u go to control panel add hardware and look under usb device and it installs the thing and works in action replay now the only other problem i have is i cant donwload xctrl and i cant figure out hwo to add new saves and stuff
hi
I'm having the same problem as yankee, Its telling me that the .zip splinter cell file isnt a valid xbox save file. Why?
thanks

Thanks man this tutorial is awesome
do not use knock-off xbox memory cards. use M$ memory cards (even though i hate to say it) they are better! There is no data courruption like in the knock-offs.
Hi I recently purchased the interact memory card and made a usb data cable and edited the .inf file for the memory card. When I try to load a save on the memory card it starts to upload the file and then it crashes.
Here is the pic:
Please any help would be nice.
I want to say thats vintage guitar for the help from you and other in getting my xbox to pc usb dongles perfected.
Now, I could use some help with this. I have a lot of usb flash drives that when inserted to the xbox, via the modded cabling will format and become an awesome memory card. Now when plugged into the usb of the pc I get nothing. I have tryed the megaxkey software yet NO JOY yet. I am searching for a remedy for this just no luck as of now. If someone can help. That would be awesome!
The drive is a AD pintech usb 64 meg flash drive. If more info is needed. I will try to gather it. Thank you for your time
Take care
Jcupp114
ok this guide helped me out heaps besides the lack of instructions for making sure you have 2 seperate zips if the gamesave is not for just one game, if you get what i mean.
anyways i am asking about the flash drives... my theory suggests that if the drive is recognized in windows without specialist drivers it should be find on the xbox. so is that correct at all?
i've only tested one drive and it worked so i'm not sure
yes...
once you get it working all you need is the appropriate ltools package and game
hey, im having the same problem as jnizzle.........i have an interact piece of crap and ive gotten as far as the driver working and everything but when i try to transfer with action replay it suffers an error and windows tells me it needs to shut down.....i hope someone can help! thanx!
anyone?????
Problem. What if the colors don't match, but it's a USB connector. I got colors like, yellow, red, blue, brown. Yellow to White, Red to Red, Blue to Green, Brown to Black?
Great tut. One i used to softmod my box.
also i have the halo edition xbox is this gonna cause ne problems
I don't see why it would not work for this method.

but i have a kernal 5713 doesnt this cause prob?
so i actually went out and buyed an action replay, but it never worked, so i emailed the tech-support guys at their official website for help and they told me i would need to return it because i have a faulty AR memory card. The thing is though that i lost my receipt so i can't return it. I do however own an Interact Flash 8mb memory unit and i was wonder if you know how ot get that to work With the action replay (when i plug it into the AR thingy through the USB port it says i have to install software for a new USB device, but i don't know what to do...i just can't get it to work)
i hope you can help, i payed $30 for this thing and i just want it to work
QUOTE(vintage_guitar @ Jul 20 2003, 09:54 PM)
umm. i just tore apart an OLD USB mouse so im guessing USB1
as for the pictures..i have found a few(i dont have a digital camera or scanner)
just cut the xbox controller cord, and the USB controller cord and connect the collor coded wires to the matching color(it's quite easy) and snip the yellow one
this is the closest thig to a pic i've seen
http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Mods/creating_a...usb_adapter.htm
I've found a better one... Usb controller
Hi,
Just wonder if anyone can help.I find this tut. and it sound great, install AR's sw and edit the ini and it can read my Xbox formated USB thumb drive (the xbox can format and transfer save game to this thumb drive). But after I transfer save game from AR to the thumb drive, the thumb drive doesn't work anymore on the xbox. The xbox seems to blink and have very slow respone. I have try diff. thumb drive (SAN Disk Crus and HP) with similar result. Has anyone any idea ? The AR sw is the current one on codejunkies site.
Thanks
:jester:

whenever i try to install either of the two action replay softwares, i get an error stating that "c:\\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and MS Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."
and it gives me two options: close and ignore. i've tried both, but neither do a thing. the installer just exits.
i've tried restarting and junk, but nothin seems to work. is this a prob in my windows or the software? what can i do to fix it?
thanks!

Its windows related. Can be fixed. Google first topic : MS support
Well since i am here anyways and i read the whole subject, i like to add:
I tried this Action Replay thingy on a STMP3500 MP3 player and it works.
So this should work for all the same devices which uses this chip.
- Marquant MP3 speler MP3-117 256MB
- Hp audiokey 32-256MB
- Sweex MP3 player pacific/mediteranian 128MB
- Creative Muvo TX 128-256MB
etc.
U need to add the corresponding PID in the driver xbreader.inf file
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_066F&PID_8000
And for the savegames to work in AR you need to change a few things in the savegame. There is a file in the save of the game itself called datelinfo.xbx and there is a databasefile for the AR program to know what is in the directory.
One easy solution is :
Find in the database the file splintercell or whatever gamesave. Open it with ZIP prog. U see a UDATA dir in it > delete it .
Now open the savegame of the exploit and copy the dir UDATA to this empty zip-file u just had opened.
Close it and run the AR prog and copy the savegame u used to the memory-device.
U need the exact same one as u emptied in the first place.
Dont worry about the text doesnt seem right or anything else, once u done u see the right savegame in your memory-device.
Any other files like txt are no problem i believe.
Another thing: the driver stops responding after 20 minutes or less. re-plug the device if you dont see it connected anymore.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to use a USB<>USB interconnect ?
So u can have a USB network with pc.
I also like to know wheter i can use my Bluetooth as a wireless device for the XBOX
I didn't come to the point of using the exploits since i dont have the original games.
But i will manage to get my 1.6b xbox from 2-6-2004 to work, even if i have to replace chips and all.
This post has been edited by jojo_nl: Mar 9 2005, 05:48 PM

So i used the mp3 player to transfer the savegame, put the game in
the dvd-drive and turned off the XBOX. Turned on > game starts wait...
load the saved game and there it was : the softmod v2 auto-installer
unlike the manual says u need to press A twice and start the saved
game/linux installer. I pressed buttons from up to down ( backup and stuff)
and while i was adjusting some settings it accidently rebooted.. i waited and
voila evox booted. After some tests with video and stuff and doing weird stuff
to it like put a copied game in and turn on the xbox and backup all, run some
progs like emulators and xboxtools, unplugged powercord while it was in evox
and while copying a game (shouldn't do that
) . It works great on my xbox 1.6b
Whats even better is to add a usb male plug onto the top of the memory card. Look around for a tutorial. It's really easy. It'll let you use that card as a PC and XB memory device.
Thanks Man, you help me alot
It no longer allows me to edit my first post so.. INSTEAD OF USING HID use this easy LINK http://www.redcl0ud.com/files/XBCDv107.exe XBCD allows you to use your controller to play as a joystick on the PC as well as HID however..all you need to do is install this..no device manager garbage. For the lazy people;). So in short..if HID doesn't work for you..use THIS. All work is of the original author..blah blah.

im getting the same error as above like the 16bit w/e it is. and i googled it but im having trouble on what to actually do to fix it.
16bit? Elaborate please.
Just to clear something up-
I opened my xbox controller socket, and soldered a female connector onto it, so i could plug a USB stick in for use as a memory card. However i found out that 1.6 xbox's (The newest ones) don't allow you to use these as memory cards anymore. I then unsoldered the female and replaced it with the male. Looking at the connectors you can see RED BLACK YELLOW and GREEN, so naturally i thought RED-RED, BLACK-BLACK, GREEN-GREEN, YELLOW-WHITE (As i knew yellow wasnt used by USB) However when i plugged this into the computer to use it as a control pad using XBCD it didnt work, and when trying to edit the .inf and reinstall i got the error "The device is not supported by........". I saw that some of you had seen this error and thought i'd tell you what it is.
Although the wires inside the cable may be the same colour, it doesn't mean that they are the same data transfer wires. (Mine should've been YELLOW-GREEN, GREEN-WHITE). So if anyone else is trying to use a crappy extension cable they got with their MP3 player, this is how the wires should be soldered.
k, first, to masterchief, to answer your question, your filles were corrupted while saving, this can happen with 3rd party cards, sorry.
second, i dont know if this has been has already been cleared up, but:
i wanted to make an action replay, so i spliced an xbox break away cable with a USB connecter (works) and downloaded the AR software (works), i also downloaded the drivers for the controller (works).
however, when i reboot and insert my Arsenal 8MB memory card, it says found new hardware, plese select driver. i direct it to where i insalled AR, and when i open the drivers folder, there is nothing in there, and i cant access my card.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this, or where i can download the software(i know its free) but i need one which has the driver there.
I am having the problem that i just slit the usb and x contrl and have everything wiered together. When i plug it into the PC i get "USB Device not recognized"?
I even tried to go straight in thur device manager and update the drivers but it says the drivers wont work???
anyone have this happen to them yet?
RR
i was just thinking.. My box is already moded! is there a way that i can fTP into the Xbox and from there just transfer the game saves on the memory card?
I know u might be asking why not just leave the save on the HD? well i have 2 boxes i need to mod. One is already moded but one i need to go softmod..
Rob
dam now that i actually figuered it out it was kind of stupid for me to ask.. just incase anyone else is going through something similar..
The memory card is drive H: once you have FTP'd in..
Doh!!!!!
my next question might be a dumb one too but how do i transfer from Memory card to actual hdd?
rob
I have a gamester 8mb memory card also but my windows xp is having trouble configuring the device.. Ive followed all the steps, ive even changed the device driver to :
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_0E4C&PID_044B <----Gamster
But my computer doesnt recognize it. When i try to drag something to the memory card on action replay, it doesnt take it..it doesnt even allow me to place anythin in there.. what am i doing wrong is there somwthing else i have to change?
should i just use a different memor card? if i have to i guess ill go buy a used one somewhere...
When I download the AR software from above It says error:uninstallshield has been detected running or something like that and this thing comes up and says something has made an illegal error or something so I just press ignore for all of them and then it just goes away and I cant install it.
Help.

1. Get usbview.exe google it it's easy to find.

at this point you deviate from the standard tutorial if your cheap-o-memory card is not supported.

5. You should find an unnamed "device" connected right with your xbox controler select this pane and look for "idVendor" and "idProduct".
6. Go to where you installed Action replay and inside the folder "drivers" open up the file "xbreader.inf" with notepad or txtpad in there find the sectiong that has this:
[_Devices]
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
Take note of "VID"=idVendor "PID"=idProduct!
wow how simple was that?
7.copy the last line and paste it on the next empty line so it should look like this
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
8. Replace the lines info with what USBview gives you for instance my 14.00 cheap-o-memory card info was this:
idVendor 044F
idProduct 0F0C
so the last line should look like
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C
so now your segment should look like this
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C
9. Save the file and try to make windows search for the driver again!
10. Use your 10.00 to 15.00 saved to buy a copy of 007:AUF!
Well I'm not doing it to save money, i am just determined to get the damn thing working, I have done exactly as you have done then updated the driver and still when i try to drag and drop the LINUX file onto the memory card from PC the Action Replay Software crashes, if you manage to get anywhere with this I would be grateful if you would let me know P.S. My Memory card is a cheap and nasty chinese thing, i would go and buy a genuine one but knowbody sells them round here....

So does FLASH DRIVE > XBOX work can the xbox recognize the flash drive as a memory card.

Like this one....?
hey. I did this mod to ym wireless controller and made the adapter part of it a usb cable. i hadn't downloaded the HID drivers yet but i decided to plug it into my computer anyways and it detected it as a game controller..and if i go to device manager it says "Human Interface Device: Game Controller"
does it matter if it did this without the drivers? will the action replay thing still work?
Oh, sorry guys, It was just my lack of knowledge. I was trying to copy the main folder and not the file
i plugged my drive into xbox formatted it got the numbers from usb view and changed the notepad document but when i go to update the drivers i cannot choose maxdrive xbox or action replay does anybody know why?

If you have a memory card and just no action replay there is a way to mod a controller and make it work on the pc. So then you could put the softmod files on the memory card and softmod that way

No i donot have any memory card which works on XBOX.
Somebody tried a MicroSD card from a phone and got lucky. Basically to find a compatible USB device for the xbox, throw a dice and see where it lands - any existing USB device you can lay your hands on.
Do you have a USB/IDE enclosure? You could hotswap with that too. http://forums.xbox-s...&...t&p=4714351

Try changing the unleashX skin. What AV cables are you using? Is this a PAL or NTSC console? Are you using a HDTV?
QUOTE(steveo1978 @ Aug 7 2010, 07:50 AM)

There is a setting in Unleashx to adjust the screen size. I dont have unleash right know so I cant say exactly what it is but it will let you adjust it using the right and left thumb sticks.

OK.Will try to change the skin. I am using the AV cables which comes withXBOX. Its an NTSC Console. Mine TV is HD Ready which supports only 480i.

What makes you think this thread is "long ignored"? If you mean that there's no idle and pointless chatter then you are right, but there are no outstanding questions, hence no recent activity.
Use Xplorer360 beta 6 instead of AR.
Use the Krayzie 1.1.1 gamesave installer. Copy the two numbered folders (21585554 and 5553000c) to the root of the memory card using Xplorer360 beta 6, then copy them to your Xbox using the Xbox dash. Start the game, load the linux gamesave. Once you've backed up the eeprom and copied it to the memory card or used FTP to copy it to your PC (or both), select Basic Install - UnleashX dashboard.
QUOTE(jaybeebrad @ Dec 30 2010, 06:26 AM)

Ok, well now I'm freaking out. After I copied the file in question over I realized I also had a hack game save for Splinter Cell labeled as "NTSC", so I put that one on the flash drive and copied it onto the XBOX. And now my XBOX won't play any game. I've put in two (Splinter Cell and Mechwarrior) and both are giving me an error "Your Xbox can't recognize this disc. Make sure it's an Xbox gamne, DVD movie or audio CD. Also check to see if the disc is dirty or damaged. Remove the disc to continue."
What happened? How do I fix this?!?
Just tried a music CD, same thing!!!
I can't believe this is happening. I came here for help and now something has gone horribly wrong, and I'm sitting here like an idiot crying over a non working xbox and you logged off. It's like, I know you don't owe me anything, but I don't know where to turn or what to do! This is horrible...
*edit - really, I'm just so distressed that someone would log on, give a quick tip without any real explanation, and then disappear. I've been working on trying to mod this thing for a week, and you come along and tell me to do something new, and I do it, and now my entire system appears to be completely broken. I just feel so defeated. It's 6AM, I have to make an attempt to forget this is happening and go to bed. I know I'm being a drama queen, but this is the worst feeling EVER.
You have three problems:
1. Your DVD drive is flaky. It has nothing to do with the softmod you've tried - mods don't affect the ability of the DVD drive to read genuine Xbox discs. Try cleaning the lens. If that doesn't work, you can temporarily swap one from another Xbox.
2. You need to get rid of all Splinter Cell gamesaves from the Xbox, and start again with the Krayzie gamesaves, not the old SID 2 saves you've been trying to use. Copy the numbered folders to the root of the memory card (see previous post). When you plug the memory card into the Xbox there will be two saves - one called Splinter Cell (7 blocks) and one called Linux Installer (375 blocks), and you have to copy both to your hard drive.
3. You need to relax, and maybe get someone to help you. It doesn't take a week to mod an Xbox with a gamesave, it takes 10 minutes, and maybe someone else there to make sure you aren't misunderstanding the instructions might be a good idea, and might stop you from becoming so emotionally involved.
Just for completeness, you should check your dashboard version before you start to softmod, and if it isn't 5960 then there's an extra step - you need to update the dash before you start. Any post 2004 live-enabled game after Halo 2 will work (Halo 2 and Doom 3 definitely work because I've used them both, and Pro Evolution Soccer 4, Need For Speed Most Wanted, and Goldeneye Rogue Agent should also work). Just load the game and start to log in to live. You don't need a network connection, you just go through the motions of starting to log in to live, and the first thing the game does is update the dashboard to the latest version. Once the update is done you can quit the game, then start Splinter Cell and do the softmod.
UPDATED 6/20/04
This method will allow you to use a regular memory unit as an action replay (get and put saves from the internet to the xbox) without buying a mega-x key or action replay but rather, a standard xbox memory unit (xbox brand, but read on later in this thread if you want too try some other brand..there are ways too do this..but i have not tried them so of course..i will not include them in my tutorial) and a standard xbox controller. Also, it will let you use your controller on your computer like a usable gamepad..on most emulators and games with controller support, and also, just by making a few modifications, you can use a keyboard and mouse on your xbox.
You'll need,
1.Xbox memory unit(THIS TUTORIAL NO LONGER SUPPORTS A NON MS BRAND MEMORY CARD, DUE TO TOO MANY CONFLICTS IN SAVE CORRUPTION..ETC.)
2.Access from your xbox controller to your PC (xbox controller to usb cable, or homebrew cutting the cord and connecting the wires technique, EXPLAINED LATER IN THIS THREAD!!!!)
Here are the steps.
1. Get the action replay software LINK 1 is 1.20(Seen problems, reccomended use of 1.05), LINK 2 is 1.05.
1.http://us.codejunkies.com/downloads/Action...box_1_20_US.exe
2.http://us.codejunkies.com/downloads/Action...nglish1_05).exe
2. Download the HID drivers.(XCtrl is now illegal and will NOT be used in this tutorial)
http://image.lik-sang.com/content/xid/xid.zip
3. Plug the controller into the PC.(Make sure the memory card is NOT plugged in!!) It will say found new hardware. and direct it to where you installed the HID drivers on your computer. Reboot
4.Plug the memory unit into the controller. It will say found new hardware. Direct it to where you installed the action replay software in the Driver folder. (or if you didnt change it, C:/Program Files/Datel/Action Replay Xbox/Driver
Reboot
5. Double-click on ActionReplayXbox.exe in the action replay folder, and voila, you now own an action replay, cool eh, but you didnt waste like 40 bucks.
--Homebrew Xbox Controller To PC Method--
PICS AT BOTTOM
You'll need
1.a usb cord(or cut an old mouse or something and salvage the cord from it,BUT MAKE SURE ITS USB!!)
2.An xbox controller, duh
Here's the steps
1.Find a good place at the end of the xbox cord(i did it by where it plugs into the second part of the controller cord) carefully, strip all the wires (about a dimes length)
2.Cut the usb cord and strip all the wires(about a dimes length)
3.Match up wires and twist them together or solder them. except the yellow wire on the xbox controller cord. which you don't need, just snip it off
4.Either tape them together which electrical tape them, or you can tidy it up a little bit and solder them. it still works out fine either way.

So i can use to to transfer the 007 hacked save to an official memory card?
Then once ive done that how to i copy it from the memory card to the hdd?
Thanks, good tutorial.
go to the 'memory' icon on the MS dashboard, and press left and press A then find the save on it and press right, then copy.. thats it

Thanks, it was a stupid question, i should have looked, i found the info i needed at http://xbox-linux.so.....thout Modchip
Will 3rd party memory cards by companies such as Mad Catz, Interact, and so on work just as well as an official MS card?
haven't tested but i don't see why they wouldn't.. they must have the same MS signed hardware in order to run on unmodded xboxs with no exploits
Alternative method:
Mad Catz Memory Card Usb Mod
This will work on any memory card I just used a Mad Catz Because it was cheap.
(I found one at Game Stop for $8.99 used)
Ebgames and Best Buy have them new for $19.99.
*updated*
vintage_guitar, what do you mean by 'signed hardware? i assumed that any usb memory stick would be compatible with the xbox as long as the adaptor cable was used.
another question: why would you need the AR software? can't you simply copy+paste the 007/MA zip to the memory stick?
thanks for any replies.
you need the software in order to have access to whats on it or put stuff on it..unless you build your own, it isn't accessible like a hard drive..you can only access the contents through some kind of program
Wow, thanks!
This will save me some money.
Instead of cutting the controller cord before the connector to the breakaway cable, would it work if i cut the actual breakaway cable instead and connect that to the USB part? I have a spare breakaway cable so i'd rather cut that than the actual controller cord.
So something like...
Controller -> connector to breakaway -> breakaway cable (cut here) -> wire up to a USB cable
Thanks!
I used the breakaway cable and it worked great for me.It was a mad catz one I got at game stop.
This post has been edited by jackslap: Jul 20 2003, 12:23 PM
i did that to another one of my controllers (it was a madcatz too lol)

vintage_guitar, i so far have used a regular usb memory stick to transfer some save games from the pc to the stick. still need to buy the usb adaptor, so i haven't transferred them to the xbox yet.
is the format an issue? i think the adaptor i have right now is FAT.
vintage_guitar do you got any pictures at your "homebrew xbox controller to pc method"?
Or do you know any other source that have pictures of that kind of mod?
(My engish isnt so good so I would understand better how to perform the modification with some pictures to guide me)
Edit: Another question came up.
Does it matter wat kind of USB cord I use? My localhardware store sell both USB1 and USB2, what is the diference betwen these?
This post has been edited by Anders.: Jul 20 2003, 07:28 PM
umm. i just tore apart an OLD USB mouse so im guessing USB1
as for the pictures..i have found a few(i dont have a digital camera or scanner)
just cut the xbox controller cord, and the USB controller cord and connect the collor coded wires to the matching color(it's quite easy) and snip the yellow one
this is the closest thig to a pic i've seen
http://www.llamma.co...usb_adapter.htm
cool i have such a controler , only thing I need is the official action replay site lol !
oki got it but can't find the software doh
go to the US site not UK..codejunkies.com
ok i got the xbox controller to work.then i put my memory card in,it says found new hardware.i direct it to c:program filesActionReplay Xboxdrivers
then it says the (specified location does not contain information about your hardware)
did i get the correct action replay software this is the file name:
ActionReplayforXbox(USEnglish1_05).exe
got it from www.codejunkies.com/
and my memory card is a ( interact flash memory 8mb )
any help thanx

Very cool , everything worked like a charm , thx man , thanks !
-i appreciate it.. whoever stickied this-
please somebody help.
i have a interact flash memory 8mb. this action replay driver doesnt seem to work for my mem card,i direct the install to the correct location just keeps saying:
(specified location does not contain information about your hardware)
it must only work on offical mem cards?
are you sure it isnt asking about the controller?
no i have been using the controller in a few pc games with out problems, the mem card gets picked up when i insert it in the pad,but cant get the driver installed. bit weird. :(
The driver for PC you will find here.
vintage_guitar:
Thanks...this works great. One more question for you, though. Is there any way to access my memory card as a drive letter through Windows? That would be sweet...
*edit* Doh...I'm looking at an actual AR save and it's just the zipped directory structure. Nevermind. ;)

I dont know, some say that this can be done, xbox memory card and USB key holders with 128MB are the same. Put your memory stick adapter in the other end, and format de device in xbox.
Simple as that.
But, i dont have any to test it right now
This is a nice siimple solution and works very well. if you buy 1 * USB cable and 1 * Xbox controller extension cable you can make a USB adaptor cable for your xbox and a xbox controller to PC usb cable (total cost around $10) cut both cables in half, swap ends and solder them back together again. (I actually had all my parts built all I couldnt work out was how to read the ram cartridge and then yipppe the driver from action replay works......
By the way glad I didn't blow $40 on the action replay kit the site has been down for the past 5 days.
It works!!!!!!! It works!!!!!
I've called my friend over to test his ImageMate SanDisk 6 in 1 with xbox and Works!!.
We test it with 64MB SM, damn!!
Xbox will format the device and BANG! Got ya!
Uhhhhhhh MAMA!!!
Ok, Ok!! I'm Cool, I'm Cool!!
Doc From, Back To The Future:
"It works!!!!!!!, It works!!!!!!!"
FYI the save games from xbox-saves work with this as well Just download the zip files and save them to your desktop and then drag and drop them into the memory card section of the action replay program.
By the way I think someone should down load the version of action replay and stick on xbins cause I think the manufacturer will pull the code when this gets around.
Taker pictures plz I would liek to see.
Hey on my Usb Cable there is a Black Wire a red wire a white wire and a green wire
THen there is this extra wire with not cover on it? ist hat the ground?
Plz help I soldered it I just want to make sure everything is right
Ill post a pic in a minute
Here are the pics. I hope i did this right

Connect it to where? It only says connect the wires and dont connect the yellow. I plugged it in it recongzies my memory card and everything. one question how do i get it to see the raincoat save in my pc directory
so i can trasnsfer it?
All I have to do is save the 007savwithraincoat onto my desktop and delete the 2 text files in it right?
Then just drag it to my memory card
| QUOTE (bodman2 @ Jul 24 2003, 01:28 PM) |
what mem cards are you all using, that have got this trick to work.
i still cant get it to work with my Interact mem 8meg
maybe its the .inf file needs altering,i thought mem cards are all the same guess not |
to get the interact 8meg flash to work with the driver we need to find out the hardware id info..
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_040B&PID_6520
taken from the inf you can see the above cut and paste shows AR driver supports 5 different parts of memorycards
The interact users need to find the hardware id so it can be added to the inf and it should then let us use the driver and work.
Linux users should be able to find the ID easyer than m$ users as it's easyer to question a new bit of hardware in a term
window or even from the log...
i ain`t got linux installed at the mo so i hope someone that has can help us out..
or we poor interact users have to go buy an m$ memory card.. sniff sniff
once u have the 007 evox game save on u'r HDD, then u can just FTP all the game saves through 'Xbox Save Manager' (www.xbox-saves.com) to your xbox HDD (no memory card required after u get 007 evox)!!
ok i have sussed it out.
Alright after I buy a crossover cable. I load up the save game next to my pc? Then the screen should go black then load an evox sscreen? After it loads I should be able to connect to my xbox right? My problem is can I use a Multi bios the executer 2 multi bios 4977? Is that fine?
Did you first plug the controller in. let in recongnize it then load and direct it to the xctrl folder. Then you reboot after ur computer is booted plug ur memeory card in and direct it to your Action replay drivers
Ok... finally. I made it. Used the USBIO Development Kit DEMO Version which managed to get the vid & pid from the Thrustmaster card... removed ALL lines below [_Devices] (it originally says something like:

take a normal save folder and put it on your pc. delete everything in that folder and replace it with the contents of the mod folder. AR will be happy.
Thanks for the replies, it was me being dumb.
The zip was adding an extra folder, and that stopped it working. Worked it out and made correct folder nest in zip and voila evox, ftp and everything.

Bodman2 - To make the interact card work, you have to edit the xbreader.inf file.
Under [_Devices] add the following line

This'll make it recognize your interact card and then you just follow the other steps.
Instead of splicing a controler, I soldered a USB cable to my mem card, but it ends with the same results... usually.
Currently, with my Interact memory card, the AR software will recognize my memory card, and I can copy files to and from it, but when I put the card into the X-Box, it doesn't show any saves, only says the blocks are used. Any ideas?
-- Update --
I think I messed the card up trying to attach the USB cable straight to it.. anyway, I returned the card for a new one and all works fine. I was able to transfer saved games to the card with AR software and from the card to the X-Box HDD no problem.
)
I am able to solder all the wires, connect it to the PC etc. Except I get this error -
USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.
I have only ever once been able to get it connected to the PC once and not have that error, but after about 20 seconds of it being plugged in and working the error popped up. Even when I point it to the drivers it won't work. I don't know what i'm doing wrong.
I'm using an official Xbox memory card.
Im using a usb flash drive as a memory card in my xbox via a usb>xbox adapter i made.
Is there a way I can get this to work with the action replay software. I tried plugging the drive to my pc but the Action Replay doesnt see it.
The drive is a 128meg generic drive and i have no issues using it as a memoery card in my xbox........

I'm really not having much luck modding my Xbox at all. I can't get this homebrew cable to work, if it's not working after today i'll just waste more money and purchase a pre-made one. (i've already purchased a Mega-X Key to find that the flash card is broken and i've also purchased another 32mb flash card to find that it's not compatible. )

w00t!
glad you got it working but can't you format the stick by popping it in the xbox and seeing the prompt to format? and trying the software after you format it?
I could never get the action replay, to work on my comp. Now I know that it is just the software, because I still can't copy to it using the software and my new xbox to(usb) pc gamepad in either of my usb ports. tried the mega-x key software just for kicks and it won't install properly, because 2 files won't copy during installation. gonna try one last thing(another comp). everything went fine during installation of the xbox controller, but the software just won't allow me to copy a file to the memory card. "ERROR Writing SAVE".....any suggestions?
O.K. one question if your lucky enough to not have any problems doing this u should be able to do the 007 exploit and font hack with pheonix loader without a mod chip right?? one more question if u do all this and have the evox dashboard and xecuter2 4977 bios will xbox live ban u or no?

have you made the zip file correctly? try re-making it
I've got a madcatz card I'm converting to a par, but have a problem with the wiring diagram posted earlier in this thread. it says to connect them such as "1: black 2: not used (Xbox yellow wire) 3: green 4: white 5: red". The problem is that on the 3rd wire I have a yellow dot. Does this mean that it is not supposed to be wired there? I am using the exact same card type as in the tutorial
This is what the circuit board looks like:

Thanks for any help
dots dont matter its the wire color that does so try it and if it doesnt work well new controller time lol
I have this memory card:
http://www.lik-sang....oducts_id=3031
I have no problem getting the save files on it. My problem is that once i try to load them up in the game( and i've tried a couple different files) i get a "cannot load save" message.
can anybody help me out?
I'll just start a topic for this. ^^^
is it new or old 007? or MA?
I'm going to be egocentrical and assume you were asking me that, vintage guitar.
I'm trying to get roster files for NCAA 2004 to load up.
yes i am asking you.
BTW, they aren't hacked or anything. it's just a roster file for the game that a friend sent me. I tried to load it up, but it said it could not load it. then i tried getting one of from AR community, but i got the same message with that file.
try loading it from your xbox
I'm sorry. I don't quite know what you mean. If you mean to play the game and try to load up the save file, then yeah that's what I am doing and that's where i get the "cannot load file" message.
If you meant something else, then could you please explain. Thanks for the responses though.
list all the problems..the roster..exactly what happens whne you try and load the save
for the roster..make sure you're updating it too your xbox..not taking it from someone elses
and for the gamesave..what game are you using?
Alright, here goes........
Roster: FairdaleKings roster file for NCAA Football 2004 (Rost-FKings on AR)
Upon trying to load the roster file, I get a message sayig, "unable to load file"
What do you mean by updating it to my XBOX?
Note: although i originally tried with a zipped file that Fairdale sent to me, and i have no idea why that did not work. I do now know why that AR file that i downloaded didn't work. It's a damaged save. i'll try to download another roster file and try once more.
metalmatt ur trying to run the game from a backup u need to patch the xbe cuz theres a media check on newly made games if its a retail copy dunno whats wrong and why the roster wont work
no, i have a store-baught copy of the game. my problem is in trying to get AR save files to work on my cheap memory card(it's the cheapest one on Lik-sang.com).
I always get a message saying, "unable to load save file from hard disk" when i try to load the saves in the game.

it's not just the 007 hack that doesn't copy over, it's any of the game saves. it's just that the datel software won't work with my comp or 2 other comps that i have tried.
Mine: 333 mhz pentium class
256mb ram
windows 2000 pro
tried both front and rear usb ports
I got the same error from the original action replay that i get from my homemade action replay.
"error writting save".... any other suggestions?
I'm using a Madcatz memory card and controller, and with the help of this tutorial I am now able to run the Action Replay software and see my memory card and controller in Windows XP. HOWEVER, the Action Replay software seems to be hung - it enumerates the game saves on my memory card, but they are dimmed and I cannot click on nor drag them. When I click the EXIT button, it says "There is currently 1 active operation in progress". It is using near 100% of my cpu and I have to kill the process in order to exit.
Is this possibly a case similar to the Interact memory card where a line needs to be added to the xbreader.inf file? Has anyone else experienced this?
FYI, I am using USB 2.0 ports (have tried primary port on back and secondary header port on front).
I suppose I'll see if gamestop has a used M$ brand memory card to try .. . .. .
Finished my own cracka-ass cable today:

Heh, inside I just twisted the cables together and wrapped em with a bit of electrical tape, and because I left the ground wires too short, I wrapped it with a buncha aluminum foil too, heh, it worked
...
Only problem is my Windows 98 box crashed when I tried to install XCtrl, but thats my own fault (I fucked the install). But I can say the MadCatz memory card works awesomely with this, I've had more problems with the card included with Action Replay than my MadCatz card. God damn the USB cable was expensive, though, 25 bucks...connecting 20 Guage wire to the Xbox's 12 Guage was a pain in the ass too. It was worth it though, this is the first force-feedback anything I've got to work on this PC!
Lol, I needed my USB mouse
Hey Vintage, just want to thank you for the awesome tutorial and advice. Same goes to the others here who have made suggestions (like how to 3rd party mem cards with this method by using the usbio dev kit). I had been having major trouble with the actual Action Replay method (error 21 every damn time regardless of what save was used) but with this method I booted up evox the very first time. Plus now I have a great controller for my PC. Anyway, thank you very much
Oh, for those having trouble, there is a similar tutorial here that explains things well too (it also helped):
http://www.xbox-emul...oller-Mod.shtml
Anyone having trouble with an actual Action Replay should try this method instead...10x better.
np..glad it helped you. however. when there is a definate fix for 3rd party memory cards i will add it in too my tutorial..as adding extra lines of code too the action replay ini doesn't quite fix ALL problems as of yet, if i had a 3rd party memory card i could test/play with one, but i don't so..eh..
I'd just like to mention that if anyone is having stability problems with xctrl, use the psxpad drivers (google it) they are by far more stable for me.
As for a few posts above, I would insulate each of those connections with some electrical tape, and the ground is that tin-foil like stuff that surrounds the wires on each end, basically take a short piece of wire, and solder it to each end of it.
If anyone wants to see how I did mine, I oppened the end case on the breakaway cable, then unsoldered the factory end, and put my usb in. I put the factory case back on, and hot glued the usb male into place. It looks almost stock.
I have a problem. When I plug in the Interact Card, the ActionReplay thing lights up, then it goes out. I don't get it. I think I added the file info correctly. I think Windows XP said it installed it correctly too. I don't get it. Any ideas?
Nevermind. I think I plugged it into the Xbox, and I think it said it had an error. I also think it said it erased it. Now I think it's working!
good to know it's working
I have a question. If you touch the wires while they're plugged into the USB port, could you get seriously hurt from the shock? Is it a strong enough shock to hurt you, or is it just a small shock?
I JUST GOT MY XBOX FINALLY AND I WANNA USE THE LIVE FOR NINJA GAIDEN BUT I DONT WANNA BUY THE LIVE STARTER KIT IF IT WILL BAN ME
i've done it alot of times, and never gotton shocked at all.
BTW, i'm running win98 SE
alright i got some stupid questions because i don't want to make any mistakes maybe u can help vintage since your the xbox pimp.
1. do u zip the whole 007with evox folder and save onto the mem card??
2.can u access a games xbox live feature from the games menu instead of from the dashboard?
3.can u use normal paint to paint a xbox or does it have to be a special kind?
4. and one other question if my dashboard says xbox live on it already does that mean if i sign up ill get a year free or do i need to get the starter kit still.
if anyone can answer these questions id appreciate it
Whatever i do i cannot get the driver for the controller to work.
i spliced the wires with a usb plugged it into a port it said new hardware detected.
i went to add new hardware go to autodetect and unknown device comes up
i click driver update
driver specify the location of the driver (advanced)
check specify a location and browse for the folder where i put xcrtl
and press next the only thing that comes up is C:WINDOWSINFUSB.INF
that isnt the driver i need i want xcrtl
i'm probably missing some studip step but can someone please help!!!
Bump
Anyone?!?!?!?!
you should just save or copy the inf file or whatever to your desktop and type in the complete path name including file name and then u should be aight. but ull probably need to take the controller out and put it back in before choosing the path again.
thanks but i finally just tryed the madcats way to connect usb directly to the card it work great
Bugger!
I thought I was the first persion to do the Action Replay hack, then found this thread when looking for somewhere to announce it!
Still, some of the info on my webpage might help.
Ive got all the colors hooked up right (excet yellow of course). Im wondering a couple things. There are a bunch of wires that are weaved together in both the xbox controller cord and the usb cord, do i need to connect those?
ALso Ive been trying to install the drivers but when pointing to the file i get an error similar to "The specified file does not contain information about your hardware". What should i do? Im using the drivers from www.codeunderground.com
Thanks!!!

Help someone please. Alright, I have an interact flash memory card for the xbox and I did the usb attach thing. So far so good. I put it in to my control when I was done to see if it worked and it did. So i saved a game from the xbox to the card. That also worked just fine. I loaded up action replay(the software) it shows the save there so i transfer that from the card to the computer, no problem there. But where I am having a hard time is transfering stuff from the computer to the card. I transfer something and it shows it transfering just fine and it shows it on my card but once I unplug it from the computer and back to the xbox control it is no longer there, it just disappears. so I try it again, the computer shows it there I unplug the card but this time I plug it back in to the computer and it disappears again. So is showing that its transfering but it really isn't. any help? |
did anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: Im not sure if this is the best place to ask, but does anyone know exactly what the yellow wire does? I just want to make sure its not super important for something. I thought it was like an extra power wire, but ive heard that its used for light guns/racing wheels, which makes me think its a data wire.

I have, like many others it seems, bought the crappy InterAct card that is almost unwritable. (Actually I did manage to change the name of it with the AR program just now, but copying saved games to it almost always causes a crash, either directly or after a few seconds. In any case, nothing shows up afterwards, except for some space missing.)
Very annoying this, and perhaps easiest solved by getting another (ridiculously expensive) memory card. But since I won't be able to buy one before Monday anyway, I can just as well look closer at it.
There are some parameters in the registry. Most are set by xbreader.inf, but some are not defined there. Could somebody with a working card please export and post the branch (see below)? Also, the output from USBview.exe might also be interesting, from a working InterAct card or any working card at all.
Here follows data for a non-working InterAct card.

the drivers wont work... i went into the hardware manager, right clicked on my "memorex 128mb usb thumbdrive" and went to the driver tab, click update driver, direct it to the xbreader.inf file which i added my drive's PID and VID, which i found using the usbio demo

If you're full of shit.. Don't bother posting. Especially when you give NO reasons in your negative feedback. Especially considdering, rarely anybody else gets the clock bug/reset on eject only depending on the method you used to install it. Reset on eject is dependant on the bios loader, not the METHOD jackass, and the clock bug is the fonts you have, ANOTHER sign that you don't know what you're talking about.
But the whole thing is if the reloaded fonts which supposedly fix the clock bug will work with pheonix loader 1.3/easy phoenix loader/complex loader. and ive read in the integrating into a memory card tutorial u can get rid of the reset on eject bug so considering most people like pheonix 1.0 to 1.3 that screws a majority over.and complex loaders patch for the 1.0 version that adds support for xbox 1.1 to 1.3 is kinda hard to find a download spot its usually just the article. so with all that said is there any way for sure to use easy pheonix loader 1.0 and get no clock bug or reset on eject bug. but yeah the audio is what a lot of people like. also how was i supposed to know it depends on the fonts when in the ma/007 integrated with pheonix loader tutorial no one knew it reloaded fonts fixed the reset problem. i read on either this or the xbox linux site only the audio or new mechinstaller would make no clock bug so thats me getting misinfo. But now that the live dashboard has been updated to patch insecurities theres no real use for software mods unless u dont like live which i want. whew with all that said get back to me on the easy pheonix loader . but did u call me a jackass for what i said to the thumb drive card guy getting a mem card was the easiest way to get success so thats what i said to do. if its about another post then which one. i dont think i left any other neg feedback to anyone in particular.
not to mention i just returned my xbox yesterday and got a 1.4 and did the exploit with no problems..if you wan't live get a modchip and switch, the exploits pretty much..will get you banned. and i've also went from pheonix 1.0 - 1.3 no proeblem many times on many xboxs, the only errors i could see happening are human errors.
where do you get 1.4's most stores ive been too have 1.1's thats what mine is

my grand total acoplishment is iw ant to b able to Run Linux on my xbox

DarkShadow
I had the same problem too, not exactly sure what was wrong with it. I ended up doing this:
1. Created a campaign in mechassult on the xbox
2. Using the dashboard, copied the save from the HDD to the memory card
3. Connected memory card to PC
4. AR replay software should show a mechassult save
5. Copied the save to the PC
6. Opened up the save from the PC HDD (should be under where you installed ARsave)
7.Copy and overwrite the files from the hacked save.
8. Use AR to copy the new hacked save to the memory card.
Hope that works, if not give us a PM and I can try sending mine to you.
I bought a usb cable on ebay that connects the Xbox controller to standard usb for the pc. It was only 6$ plus shipping. This was easier than making my own. I love the fact that you can use the Action Replay stuff without buying one. You can copy all of their game cheats for free.
Just search for "xbox usb pc adaptor" on eBay and you will find the cable.
later,
Bolts

Yes you can, you will however need to download the AR program as that will allow you to upload saves and it has drivers for the memory card.
Are the XCTRL drivers illegal or something because i cant find em anywhere.
if there not could someone tell me where to get em, i tried xbins but they not there.
i cant get into the codeunderground website
use the ones that the guy just posted a link to above! Xctrl is not that important.
have done the controler mod and the controller works fine on pc ,
used usb view and added the pid,vid lines to the xbreader.
can save off the mem card from box onto the pc no probs but when i try to save on to the memory card from the pc it transfers no error message but cant see the saves when i plug the card into the box or even when i plug the card back into the action replay software ,the saves seem to be there cause they are taking up space on the card but there is nothing visable.
its not a MS card just a cheap generic one
got anyideas what wrong ?
edit re read thread and can now i aint the only one having this problem
So I did my research first, and searched for it with no luck.....
I would like to know you can just wire up the xbox memory card directly to a PC USB by soldering a usb Cable to to the corrisponding pins on the inside of the memory card.
--slightly modifying the concept found in this tutorial:

instead of soldering the USB ports to the controler, solder the cable to the memory card itself, and install the AR software.. it works in my head.... but I don't feel like frying another memory card so soon after my last one. (don't ask)
And based on that idea, with my dead memory card, I took the board out and dremeled a hole to fit a USB port, so I have a more portable USB adapter for the controler.....
Could I take said home made USB adapter, get a male to male USB cable and plug my xbox controler to the PC via home made memory card adapter that isn't really a memore card anymore and be able to use my controler on my PC? --and if so, can I plug a regular xbox memory card into the second memory slot on my controler and transfer the save games that way?
PM me for pics of my work on that usb memory card port for the xbox controler should you wish to see it.
ok i did this, and did exactly as it said, and as http://www.gadgetjun...=article&sid=13
said, but i cannot get my mem card to detect in AR xbox .
anyone? (ps i have a interative mem card.) thanx

I had this mod working perfectly just like the tutorials says to do it when I had win98. It has been a while since I have tried to do this, but recently I upgraded to win xp and it does not work. any one know why?

use madcatz or a official card and win xp is way diff then 98 xp and 2000 have their own specific drivers. I would never use this method tho it would either be action replay card way or a regular xecuter modchip probably the latter.
Has anyone got it to work with an interact card? I did everything that everyone said but I still cant get it to work....

Can any one help me out please? I was able to get this to work fine with win98, and now that Im in winxp, no driver seems to work. winxp, M$ memory card, tried several drivers, can ne1 tell me what is going wrong here?
--PooN
hmm sorry can't help you out Poon
I'm running XP too.
I've used Xctrl rebooted. Then used the AR with the drivers and it all worked.
If you want PM me and I can send you my version of Xctrl. But I"m guessing you've probably got the same version.
Jesper, YOU ARE THE F*CKING MAN! You're right, I had the same drivers already that you sent me, but it was your tut that cleared things up for more. The problem was in my mod. I have a USB cable hooked up directly to the usb ports on my controller so it does not go the the actual xbox controller. The usb cable was hooked up directly to the memory card in other words. (So I dont know if this is correct, but from this, if you have win98, you can just hook your memory card up directly and use the datel drivers. That has to be the way I was doing it before) So I made a new cable that hooked up to the controller and everything worked perfectly. I dont know why I didnt see this before, but you tut that you included with your email made me realize it.
Thank You

No worries, glad you finally got it working.
But strange, cause I always thought that you could hook up the Memory card to the USB directly. Maybe XP you have to use differnt drivers, perhaps XP's removable storage ones. THough not sure how they would handle FATX.
The US codejunkies site is gone.

SO, has ANYONE got a 64mb keydrive working on the xbox?

Anyone reccomend a 32mb version that works with the xbox?? Ive looked around but cant find any on eBay that are in the WiKi list??
. I've never read this thread, and started playing with the Action replay driver.... next thing I know, I have an Action Replay. Thought I might've been the first to do this, and now I see I'm possibly the last LOL.
For 007 to work, you need to upload it to your memory card, put in the 007 game, upload the gamesave, and then you should be in Evox. Once you're there you can access the system utilities section where it will tell you all the needed networking info. Then just use ur favorite ftp program, enter in the info, and you should have just created a network. Hope this helps.
My method of doing this was to open up the controller and find where the cable connects to the pcb inside.
Cut off the plug from a usb cable and stripp the wire. Drill a small hole in the back of the pad to pull the wire through, and join the stripped end of the usb cable to the cable which connects to the pcb.
You pad will now have both orig. X-box and USB cables.
