Title: Please Tell Me You Can't Play On Live.
Post by: SSSSSmokey on July 02, 2003, 01:27:00 PM
Man, one of the best things about Live is that you need to buy the game and can't cheat...
I will never get it if people start playing copied games with this!

Why is it one of the best things?

The cheating I understand, but who cares if it is a backup copy. You still have to pay for live, right?

if you can play backups ... u can cheat ... that's what he means.

but for now xlive can still detect it (kernel in memory is patched - xlive checks that).

I don't even want to see cheaters at all, including legal copies and not just the illegal ones.

It's annoying how people assume that people who want to play backups on live are either cheaters or expect to use the live service for free. Personally, I make copies of all my retail games and would like to be able to use them online. Also, I don't see why my Xbox has to be in the exact state that M$ demands just to play online.

The problem is that if backups (unsigned code) are made possible on Live, then so are hacks. Just because you won't cheat or use pirated games on Live doesn't mean that other people will abide by the same rules.

Believe me, if unsigned code is allowed to get on, there WILL be cheaters even if you (Crusader) don't cheat.

Therefore, I'm sure you're smart enough to figure out "why my Xbox has to be in the exact state that M$ demands just to play online."

No one's PC is exactly the same, and while you will occassionally run into cheaters, it doesn't stop most online PC gaming from being fun.

It's all about control, and I won't allow MS to tell what I can and can't do to the hardware that I bought.

But game companys try their hardest to block cheaters from cheating and making the game crap thus M$ for once was smart.. try to cut it off at the source, but as usal M$ fuks it up I hope they fix it

You can do whatever you want with the hardware you bought. That's fully within your rights.

However, it's perfectly within MS' rights to ban you from their online service if you try to bypass the online service's security. If you get banned, that's the risk you take. Blocking out cheaters keeps the system working on a level playing field.

My point is the security system goes too far. I don't care if it's not a PC, I don't want MS scanning my console anytime they want.

There would be no privacy issues at stake if online games would use cd keys instead of these stupid checks....then we could use our Xboxs in any state but it would have to be up to the game companies to stop cheating.

They're not scanning it anytime they want, only when you connect to their service. That's a big difference.

There's no privacy issue here. There's no scanning or banning until YOU voluntarily initiate a connection to THEIR system.

If you have a problem with that, then don't touch any menu options relating to Live when your mod chip is on.

I'm don't even think the Live server actually scans the user for modifications. The way I understand it (and I could be wrong), it's the client software on the user's end that transmits upon connection whether the BIOS has been modified.

Ever play Halo on Xbconnect? No way to cheat.
There goes your entire argument.

on the contrary, there is a way to cheat in halo on xbconnect, and ive seen it done before.  They were on top of blood glutch and when I was shooting him, it didnt affect him at all.  I've seen hacks already made too!

Are game saves not considered cheating? They work on xbox live. Some of these games saves are even hacked. So what do you mean by xbox live is blocking cheaters?

Anybody who played NBA2k3 or NFL2k3 already know the common bugs that come along with it. In NBA2k3 there's the ENDLESS PAUSE, in NFL2k3 there's the bogus KICKOFF (which doesn't run down the timer, so you could leave your machine on all day), or the KICKOFF with a weak PUNTER that guarantees that you'll retrieve an onside kick.

Those are annoying bugs, lets not even start with hacks.

The point is, once backups can be played on XBLIVE, so can hacks. You can restrict just one, and have the other. They come hand-in-hand.

OH yeah and lets not forget about Midnight Club II. There's a LONG list.

It'll be a sad day when backups are playable on live.

Good I dont want to see cheaters and freeloaders with their Illegal copies on XBL

What kind of ridiculous statement is this? Although this site does not condone piracy, nor do I publicly, I could care less if the people on Live have a retail game or not. How would you even know unless they were cheating? <And if they were cheating, wouldn't it be obvious?> This statement seems elitist to me, like Live is some private club for just the "xbox right wing"  laugh.gif

Amen brother! My xbox, my games, my Live subscription, I should be able to do whatever I want with them. If you think otherwise, people like you are the reason the DMCA got signed into law  dry.gif

And if you think people are cheating, just play with people who you know aren't cheating. It is that simple!

You cannot cheat unless the people you play against are using the same cheats.  It is impossible, a modifed game with cheats can NOT connect to another game that isn't modified, you will get booted from the game.

If someone were to make a "cheat" that say, put banshees and shades in multiplayer, don't you think you would want the option to use backed up games on XBOX Live?  It would be nice to have a hacked version of Halo that had this option, and to be able to find other XBOX Live players that have the hack so you could play against them.

second, why shud it matter if ppl use backup copies of games on XB live as long as they arent hurting u????? only problem that should be discussed here is cheating online, M$ shud focus on just banning cheaters than ppl who run unsigned code.............
