i think he meant whether you were sure if you had a 1.2 but since you know about the pictures, i assume you know what version you have. one of your solder points might be bad in that case, check those.

OK This is how far I got with this install. I hope someone else can help with getting this thing going.

I Installed the X-Ecuter II lite in the XBox v1.2 using the v1.1 steps and the d0 that was shown in another post (the small grayed dot.)

I booted the machine with the original HDD and it showed the X-Ecuter II where the MS logo was.

I booted again using my customized Slayer's automated installer DVD, everything looked normal.

I removed the original HDD and installed a Maxtor 120 gig. (Making sure the jumper was in the right place) and rebooted the machine again. This time I got an error 06.

I removed the 120 giger and installed a different but original untouched HDD and rebooted then got the error 06 again.

I removed the HDD mentioned above and reinstalled the original (the one that came in this XBox and rebooted again with my customized Slayer's again and all seemed normal again.

OK this is all I know, can anybody help me from here.

Thanks to all...IBNewBe... blink.gif

If you do have the progress you've stated so far, PLEASE get us confirmation in the form of digital pics of your system with the mod installed.

IF you are being truthful (once bitten, twice shy), it sounds as though everything is perfectly normal. Installing a hard drive will illicit an error, merely becuase it hasn't been formatted.

The different but untouched original probably didn't work because it was still locked for the box it belonged to.  Are you sure that the 120gig wasn't locked too, has it ever been in another xbox?

rjm2k....Nope, The 120 giger was fresh out of the sealed package.
Is there a way to unlock the HDD if I can't get the XBox to boot with my Slayer's DVD in it?

Thanks for the help...IBNewBe... sad.gif

Unless you have a backup of the password generated by the box the drive came from, or it was locked using config magic, the only way to unlock it is to put it back in the original box and use config magic to unlock it.

now i think the key thing to note here is that some people that have tried to mod the v1.2 (including the l33 case) said that they soldered the d0 where the grey blotch is. i think it was just a gross miscalculation :)

Everyone should remember (earlyer in this topic) that I still have not been able to get the 120 Gig. HDD to work with this moded box yet.
I will be trying to some new ideas this weekend that my son gave me and I will post my findings.
If anybody else has any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks...IBNewBe...

Well, if everything else works, there's no reason why the hard drive shouldn't be replaceable.

I realize you said you had CS selected, but you might want to double-check, as many mfg. charts are pretty retarded (Samsung comes to mind) and can easily be confusing.

Likewise, when you got error #6, did you try booting your Slayer's disc?? If the cable setting was incorrect, it might have interfered with the DVD drive, too, though.

Obviously, the HD won't boot if there's no DVD when it's scratch.

Logically, there can be NO changes in the BIOS with regards to the HD operation, since it booted the original, which requires the password unlock. IF there was any board level changes or BIOS changes, your hacked BIOS would also get the error trying to boot the original drive.

Doh.... actually, wasn't there some bizarre issue with new hard drives and the 4973 BIOS?

I recall others having this difficulty.

Here's the thread over on TX:

Yep! I tryed all the jumper settings just to make sure and I used my Slayer's DVD on another XBox after this one so I know its OK too.
I looked at the thread you suggested and I will be trying that too.

Thanks again...IBNewBe...

do you have a 1.1/1.0 box as well, does the drive work in that. do you have any more drives you can test? its odd that it wont work with a new hdd but works otherwise

very wild guess here - have they changed the PSU so it only has enough power for the origonal HDD (im not clued up on how much power drives use, but im guessing more platters = more power..but i might be wrong..prolly am :) )

Well, the PSU is a creative guess, but the bigger hard drives probably consume LESS power, actually (newer designs).

Additionally, if they tried something like that, the system would be tremendously flaky.

Most likely it's the 4973 BIOS HD bug as I mentioned.

OK, I tried another new fresh out of the box 120 Gig. HDD and I used my custom Slayer's DVD and got the error 16 again. I rechecked the original HDD and it booted with my Slayer's and works fine. I still have not made any changes to the original HDD (i'm just plane old checkin I guess)

Any idea's?

I tried to post my new findings on the new XBox v1.2 (above) and found I was banned. I thought I was providing helpful information.

Well anyway, hope this information I have provided will help others.

So would you (or anyone else who can) post my findings on their fourm?

I just tried to post on their forum again and I'm still bannd.

Thanks for you trying to help anyway.

IBNewBe

I don't know what the hell is going on. Somebody unbanned you (I actually looked and saw you were unbanned), and now it seems somebody re-banned you.

Did you post something that might have pissed somebody off??? Did you send any e-mails that might have gotten you banned?  I don't understand at all.

Team Xecutor doesn't have 100% control, as it is hosted as a service by gotmod.com (which was recently put under new management). So it might not be a Team Xecutor guy who's doing this.

That is all too odd... So there is no way to find out who is banning or why? I tried to look and see who to contact to ask but ??? its not real clear... seems like someone should be able to say why he is banned at least...
