Title: How Do I Ftp?
Post by: nfs924 on April 30, 2004, 10:10:00 AM
For you Windows XP, no FTP program is required, Windows has a nice FTP program installed with XP. FIrst, you need to get the IP Address of your xbox. There is many ways to find this out. In order to FTP you need a a router, make sure your computer, and the xbox are connect the router. Most Dashboards tell you the IP address of your xbox. Look ar the dash, there should be a 192.168.X.XXX number, that is your IP Address. Once you have the IP Address, its time to FTP. Open "My Computer", in the address bar, type in the following:
ftp://192.168.X.XXX
Fill in the "x" with the numbers the dashboard told you.

Once you connect, it will ask for a user name and password. Use the following:
User Name: xbox
Password: xbox

Once you are connected, you can start to FTP, happy FTPing!

I did this using FlashFXP and tried to connect, but the connection keeps failing.  I'm using a router and I'm PRETTY sure that I'm using a crossover cable between my router and xbox.  I'm trying to upload the MA exploit to my xbox so I can softmod it, so I would really appreciate any help that you folks can give me.

cgrumler, i think u should use a straight cable and not a crossover cable between your xbx and the router.

I'm almost sure of it.

You should use the crossover cable between the xbox and the pc.

You also need to make sure the ip address your exploit assigned to your xbox is what you are trying to connect.  A lot of the exploits use 192.168.0.3 or something very similar.  You can do one of three things:

1.  You could create a new connection setting in your Network Settings folder to
reflect your xbox ip address and your pc's ip address.  You have to be careful
doing this because some versions of Windows get touchy when you change ip
addresses manually.  However, this allows you to easily switch back and forth
   between ip settings.

2.  You could change to file in the exploit that sets the xbox ip address.  It's a lot
easier than it sounds.  You can simply open the file with notepad and make
and/or add proper ip address settings.  Sometimes you have to add an ftp
    section to the file.

3.  You could manually set your pc's ip address to match the ip address that the
    exploit sets for your xbox.

I only use an exploit to be able to ftp to my exploit and I chose the second method.  I found it easier to change the exploit file than to change my pc's settings.
