Title: Tsop Flash A 1.1 With Mechassault
Post by: crusty_punk on April 07, 2011, 12:29:00 PM
Last night I used the mechinstaller to softmod my xbox. I have a ver. 1.1 and know where the solder points are... I have searched the forums but I cant find a definitive guide on what to do next.

When I used mechinstaller, I opted to have UnleashX as my default dash. Should I go back and uninstall the mod and do it again with evox and flash the bios from there?

The tutorials I have read are for a non modded xbox except for this one:
QUOTE("KalleKalasmanicken")

This is the way I do it with MA.
First, the M7 works nicely.
Just make it to a 1 meg bios. (Take 4x 256 to make 1x 1 meg bios)
Copy save file to mem card from modded xbox->memcard->unmodded xbox.
Boot the un-modded with MA, load savefile from campaign.
From there, ftp over the 1 meg bios to the bios folder.
Restart xbox.
Boot MA, then load save file, select flash bios from menu.
Viola.

I understand all of that except the bios. I know where the usual places are, I know how to get the bios from the usual places to my PC... PC to mem card.. mem card to xbox but i dont understand when they said "Copy save file to mem card from modded xbox->memcard" how do you get it from usual places to the modded xbox without being on a mem card first?

Are they saying that the save game that is on the modded xbox is he one that did the initial mod in the first place? If so I have that bitch on a mem card ready to go into any xbox I come across...

I have the slushie doc, good tutorial but it's for 007 and seemed to jump around a bit. Is there an up-to-date definitive tutorial or guide for mechassault?

Also, I have Slayers AID... it use to work on a different box but not this one. The weird thing is that I am using the same exact DVD drive. Only difference is the other box that Slayers worked on was a 1.0 and this one is a 1.1... any ideas?

Just to put this out there... my goal is to run a 2.5" HDD without a dvd drive. What bios should I get to accommodate that? I do not need to change the flubber, no color changes, nothing fancy. Also, if I opt to not have a DVD drive will I be able to hook one up from time to time to rip games to the HDD?

I know that was a lot. I'm sorry. I'm still learning and a lot of the stuff I'm finding 404's or is for something I do not have. I am a mechinstaller... not a 007AUFinstaller  tongue.gif
Thanks in advance,
Josh.

If the Xbox is already softmodded then it's far easier than that. Install Evox e.g. in E:\Apps\Evox\, and put the BIOS you want in E:\Apps\Evox\BIOS\. Run Evox as an application from UnleashX, select the flashing option, select your BIOS, flash. Job done!

Now, to make it work smoothly you need to configure the BIOS to load your preferred dash before you flash. I'd recommend X2.5035 as the BIOS for a 1.1 Xbox, and to configure the default dash you simply edit x2config.ini to point to your preferred dash using a text editor, then put x2config.ini in the root of E:\.

I want to upgrade the hdd immediately to a 2.5" laptop drive after the flash. what should I do after the flash to do that? That's why I don't have anything on this HDD yet....

Thanks for your info.
Getting evox and x2.5035 from usual places, then solder, then flash attempt.
I'll report back in after I'm done.

THANKS!

ok, just a few more questions:
 I got evox from the usual places but it's "EvolutionX Build 3935"... is that fine?
(I never use it because I don't like it so I don't know anything about what build does what)

I had to get the x2.5035 bios from pirate bay. (not complaining) In the folder there are 2 bin files.
x2_5035_v16plus_512k.bin
and
x2_5035_vOld_512k.bin

I put them in the bios folder of evox. There was also 2 other bios' in the bios folder...
EvoxM7.bin
and
EvoxM7_ef.bin
I read earlier that the M7 bios is good.
Which one should I pick and do I have to modify it to run without a DVD drive?

Earlier you mentioned  that I need to point a file to the dash that I want to use. I want to immediately swap the HDD for a 2.5" laptop drive. How do I go about doing that after the flash?

I haven't ftp'd anything over yet.
Waiting for your reply.

Thank you so much for the help,
Josh

That version of Evox is the latest, and it's fine.

x2_5035_vOld_512k.bin for a 1.1

Evox M7 is old. Evox M8+ is newer, but you need to edit is before you flash it.

I'm sure that X2.5035 can be configured to work without a DVD.

You install the new disk then boot with HeXEn 0.99B11-22 and use the appropriate option to format and set up the new disk.

Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it... seriously! If there is anything I can do to help you in any way, please let me know.

I am confused about
QUOTE

You install the new disk then boot with HeXEn 0.99B11-22 and use the appropriate option to format and set up the new disk.

I don't know what that is. I'll look it up.

also how do I configure the bios? I know that I read bout a program earlier to change the flubber and all that but for the life of me I cannot find it in my history. If I opt to have no DVD drive will I be able to pop one in from time to time to rip games and what not?

Thanks in advance!
Josh

in the x2 folder there is a config file.
On line 10 and 11 there is an entry that says:
CODE

; do dvd drive check
doDvdDriveCheck =  0

is this correct for running no dvd drive?
Thanks,
Josh

Yes, those are the config lines. All they do is prevent the error if no DVD drive is detected - if the DVD drive is there it will still work.

sweet, thanks for the heads up. That's getting my gears rolling!

I soldered my points flawlessly, I started evox, went to flash bios and it says:
"Manufacturers ID 20 Device ID f1
Flash Type ST - M29F080A
Error reading bios file"

Do you think its because I put x2 in it's own folder in evoxs' bios folder?
I'll re FTP the files and try again.

Also, in UnleashX, evox isnt showing up in my Apps. I have to get to it by going to file explorer, E\Apps\EvolutionX Build 3935\evoxdash.xbe

is that a common occurrence?

Thanks,
Josh

I just realized... doesn't a 1.1 take a 1mb bios? the X2.5035 is only 512. Is that why I got the error?
Title: Tsop Flash A 1.1 With Mechassault
Post by: Heimdall on April 07, 2011, 04:26:00 PM
Yes, it's failing because you didn't follow the instructions...

QUOTE
put the BIOS you want in E:\Apps\Evox\BIOS\

To get it to show up in the apps menu the file has to be renamed default.xbe, not evoxdash.xbe.

Evox automatically resizes the BIOS to 1MB when it flashes.

Title: Tsop Flash A 1.1 With Mechassault
Post by: crusty_punk on April 07, 2011, 05:09:00 PM
if I put a game disk in it boots the game but still will not read slayers disk. I have tried 2 different dvd drives now. If there is nothning in the drive it boots to a black screen.

every time I push the eject button, it reboots.

When I put in mechassault I can run "install linux". I can ftp into the xbox ONLY when mechassault exploit is running.

what should I do from here?

Is your Slayers on a DVD-R? if not then try that.

Failing that, use Mechassault and FTP to make sure that your x2config.ini dash location is pointing to your preferred dash location.
Title: Tsop Flash A 1.1 With Mechassault
Post by: crusty_punk on April 07, 2011, 05:36:00 PM
I'm re downloading and going to re-burn my slayer disk to a cd-rw. before it was on a cd-r. but the thing is it booted before same drive different mobo. I don't get why. If the cd-rw doesnt work I have one dvd+r left and if worse comes to worse I'll try that.

By chance do you know what the correct path to the dashboard is?
My dumb ass was too excited and nervous about this and I most probably overlooked that.
I'll look in my other softmodded box and get the file path from that but something is telling me that the mechinstaller is different. My other box was hotswapped.

Wish me luck!
I will return with info...

thank you for being patient with me...seriously.

should it be:
E:\dash\default.xbe ?

the x2config.ini file is pointing to
CODE

; 255 characters max here, format is :.xbe, e.g. "f:dashes\avalaunch.xbe"
dash1Name = c:avalaunch.xbe
dash2Name = c:evoxdash.xbe
dash3Name = c:unleashx.xbe
dash4Name = c:xbmc.xbe
dash5Name = c:xboxdash.xbe

should I change it to:
CODE

; 255 characters max here, format is :.xbe, e.g. "f:dashes\avalaunch.xbe"
dash1Name = e:dash\default.xbe
dash2Name = c:evoxdash.xbe
dash3Name = c:unleashx.xbe
dash4Name = c:xbmc.xbe
dash5Name = c:xboxdash.xbe

I know this is a HUGE pain in the ass. I have been working on this for 12 and a half hours. you have been a tremendous help!!

thanks in advance,
Josh

Has to be DVD-R, not DVD+R.

Mechinstaller is a game, not a softmod. It's the precise softmod installer name and version that tells you where the dash is installed.

The correct path to the dash is the path to wherever you installed your preferred dash. Use FTP to put your dash where you want it, then make sure x2config.ini points to that location. E:\Dashboard\default.xbe is probably a good place, or E:\Dash\default.xbe.

Edit: Actually, E:\evoxdash.xbe would be a better choice, because it is where most boot discs assume the dash will be.
Title: Tsop Flash A 1.1 With Mechassault
Post by: crusty_punk on April 07, 2011, 05:55:00 PM
I meant that mechinstaller is different as it it puts it in a different place than the hotswap does... and it did.

When I ftp into the xbox I see that the unleashx dash is E:/Dashboard/defautlt.xbe
I pointed the x2config.ini file to that and it still boots to a black screen.
I never installed evox as a dash, only an application. That would be in E:/Apps/EvolutionX/default.xbe

I'll try everything I can...

Slayers disk is still downloading.
I'll let you know what happens.

Just to clarify, the x2config.ini goes in the evox bios folder right? I wasn't told otherwise... I just assumed that it went in there with the bios.

Thanks.

I think I got... well, something...

I pointed the ini file to apps\evox\default... i deleted everything from the bios folder except for the bios I used and there was a jumbled mess on the screen that said something about oops, something went wron and I saw a number 13 in the top right corner of the screen with an arrow pointing to it. I could make out that the jumble was the evox logo

I'll keep working on it.

And FYI your Xbox isn't using the BIOS on the disk, it's using the copy you flashed onto the chip.

You don't need a tutorial. Grab HeXEn 0.99B11-22. Burn it to DVD-R. Put the new hard drive in your Xbox, then cold boot with HeXEn. The LED will turn red, then 40 seconds later the menu will appear. Select option 3.5.3. New Disk, NTSC Xbox or option 3.5.4. New Disk, PAL Xbox, then follow the instructions. You might want to read 3.5.1 Instructions first. smile.gif

If the hard disk is new then you might be prompted to format it when HeXen boots. That's not a problem - just format it following the instructions (from memory you press both triggers, but you get instructions on-screen that walk you through the process), then reboot with HeXEn again and select one of the new disk options.

like Heindall said, use HeXEn to upgrade your HDD. basicaly you put the HeXEn in the drive, power off, attach the new HDD and boot up. it will take a min for HeXEn to boot. then just find the TSOP options and upgrade your HDD.

make sure you burn HeXEn to  a DVD-R. you can find it by googleing "Heimdall's xbox engineering disc". the demonoid torrent is the most reliable.

thanks guys!
I'm going to pick up a few DVD-R's after work today and give it a go when I get home. hopefully my mind will be clear tonight and I don't make any stooooopid mistakes like I did yesterday.

I still can't believe I didn't see the extra "t" for that long. When my girlfriend got home from work I told her what I had done and she immediately saw my mistake. Maybe I'll have her do all of the flashing of TSOP's from here on out  tongue.gif

where in anything does it tell you the passcode?
I googled for a good few hours so I didn't have to bother you by asking. The rar I downloaded only came with the ISO packed inside. Nothing else.

also, I lost ftp access after hard drive install. I have tried xbmc, evox and unleash. Any ideas? Before you tell to go into settings... I already did, and I already did and I'll do it again, but I havent been able to gain access for a good minute.

also when I try to boot to M$ dash I get an error 21 but the screen is split diagonally with the lower half displaying the X2 text and the upper half displaying the error
