Title: I Want To Make Sure I'm Understanding Things

You are pretty much correct on everything. I have not ever installed a switch on a TSOP, I just use raincoat to flash and let it figure things out, but I beleive the accepted way to flash more than 1 bios is to disable the switches and flash a 1024kb file, that contains your four bioses of choice:

In windows command prompt:

C:\> copy /b M7.bin + msbios.bin + x2_5035.bin 1024kbios.bin

To create your bios combination of choice. (Just make sure they add up to 1mb and conform to your switch setup..)

I'm sure caster or others may have something slightly more usefull to add.

P.S.

am I screwed cos I used raincoat to do the flash?

I tried the 3 wire trick as listed here http://forums.xbox-s...o...131986&st=0

but it still frags on me

I remember raincoat saying it was 'erasing' the TSOP.  did it clear the whole thing? sad.gif

Raincoat 0.7 will erase the whole TSOP. Im not sure of other versions.
If you've flashed the whole TSOP, something else went wrong - you're going to need a chip - either a 29 wire and try to flash the TSOP, or an LPC modchip.

You might try wiring the xbox so you can boot from all four banks individually. I have had a few xbox's the 3 wire trick wouldnt work on, but when booting from each bank indiviually the xbox was able to boot.

Lordvader has a link to this in his sig. Or you can use the forum search button.

like spiffyville said, try bootin from diff banks. with thoes 2 points grounded its loadin 1st 256kb of the tsop. with both of them on a vcc point its loadin last 256kb of the tsop. play round (check out tuts first but) n load each bank n see if ya dont get luck with an valid bios image on 1. tho ya most likely to only get the 1st 256kb of the tsop to boot if it was successful write (wipped rest n only wrote the 1st 256kb of the tsop)

You dont really need to install switches to select each bank.  You can do the three wire method for each bank and you may be lucky and still have half or a quarter of good image.
