What version 007 AUF are you using? Is it an original or platinum hits?  Also, what kind of memory card are you using? Some 3rd party cards have been known not to work properly.

Just a question or 2

using this guide will turn a virgin xbox into a modded one, able to run unsigned code???

also, I have looked around and can't tell if I have the sharp chip, if someone could tell me what to look for or slap me with a link that I overlooked it would be appreciated.

TIA for any info biggrin.gif

Awesome tutorial.

Just modded mine (1.0) and my brother's (1.5).
I never soldered before.

I just don't understand anymore why people will still buy modchips now......

Thanks man for the great info !

I'm getting the 'error 21' also.  I am using the origional 007 and a MS memory module.  I ftp the save game to my modded xbox and then copy the save to the memory module.  Boot 007 on the unmodded xbox, load the save and get the 'error 21' screen.  I have tried different saved games with raincoat and evox - if I can load the save game I get 'error 21'  This is a ver 1.0 xbox.

Transfer the save game from the mem card to the unmodded box.  For whatever reason it won't work off the mem card.

Hey first of all thanks for this great tutorial
Very well written and easy to follow

Just had a few questions, and didn't manage to find solid answers to.

Is there any difference between using a physical mod chip and flashing the TSOP ?
Some people say don't do it ... but it seems like it would be the exact same thing.
Do you lose any features/options? Can you do it multiple times like when you need to upgrade the BIOS or replace it with the original if you ever need to ?

And lastly can this be done on any XBOX v1.0 - 1.5 no matter what chip ? I thought
I read somewhere that the raincoat method worked in any situation... or are there some chips that are not flashable

Thanks again!

Whipshock, I have been out of the scene a while, but I think I can answer your questions. The reason people are against the TSOP flashing is because it is a lot easier for a newbie to screw up their xbox. On newer xbox's the TSOP is 256k (someone correct me if I am wrong) and for this reason you can only have a modded box if you flash the TSOP, and you can never get on xbox live even if you want to. So on the newer xbox's (1.2 - 1.5 ?) you would have to use a mod chip and install a switch if you want to go from modded to unmodded so you can get on xbox live. On the version 1.0 & 1.1 there was a 1 mb TSOP which could be split into (2) 512kb or (4) 256kb TSOP sections by installing 1 or more switches. On my 1.0 I split the TSOP into (2) 512kb sections and have a switch to go from unmodded to modded, even though I dont get on xbox live I just wanted to experiment with it. TSOP flashing can be done to any version no matter what chip, but be aware of what version you are working with as they use different solder points and methods. TSOP flashing and modchips give you the same overall effects and options. Whether modchip or TSOP flashing they can both be flashed over and over without doing any damage as long as you use a good bin of the proper size.

chasmosis1 >> thank you very much for that detailed response

answered pretty much everything and I think a buddy of mine is going to try it
on his 1.5 with the raincoat method, now i'll just hafta track down the correct solder
points for his chipset

thanks again

I'm going to buy a xbox tomorrow and it will probably be an v1.4 or 1.5? So my question is: Can i use this 007 hack guide to flash the bios? Does it work on the new versions of xbox? All i need to do is to sold little? Have someone tried this at a new xbox? Must be sure so i don't sold and it's not work.. I'm confused  uhh.gif

Yes it works on the newer thing but you need to solder 3 points (2 ontop and 1 on the bottom) and use raincoat .5 not the .3 release that is bundled on the usual places. All you need to do to make the .3 release .501 is download the raincoat .501 package from xbox-linux on sourceforge and then replace the raincoat and raincoat.conf files. Also you may need to add a few lines to the .conf file depending if your bios chip is listed in the file or not.

A@ron

You only need to do the top 2 points.  You do NOT need to do the bottom board point.  Just use the 007AUF Rain 051 with M7 bios and you'll be fine.  Done over 100 of these in the past month.

Iowa??  hehe.. i thought i was the only one from Iowa..  Not to far away.. In the next bigger town 45mins from you smile.gif  Only thing though... I can't wait to freaking move in about 3-4 months!!  Not the place for me smile.gif ...

Sharpie00: what an awesome post.  This has to be the easiest f#$king mod I have ever done.  It was so nice not having to worry about the Do or the LPC points being in the proper position and all that garbage.

I did do mine a little bit different that I found to be easier.  Instead of using the 007 exploit with raincoat I got the 007 exploit with Evox in it.  I got the gamesave onto my memory card and put it on the virgin xbox HD.  Then I booted 007 and got to evox.  At that point I ftp'd into the xbox and put in a more recent bios than what came with the exploit (I could have done that before hand but forgot to) and made sure it was 1 meg cause I have a 1.0 xbox.

Then I rebooted the xbox and followed the steps to get evox up again.  On the evox menu is flash bios. I selected that and then scrolled down to my appropriate bios and wham it flashed it!  I could probably do the whole thing in 30 minutes now that I know what I am doing.  And the best thing...it’s free!

Thanks again Sharpie00

OK, I've read thru the whole 20 pages...
I'm using Morden's v3 exploit on my v1 box. I'm thinking about tsop flashing. Bottom Line:
Do I have to solder anything on the bottom of my mb? Do I need to remove it completely? Or can I get away with just the top of the mb? Not quite clear on this...

Yes, that's the way I'm doing it. I still need to go rent an older version of 007 from blockbuster though. I read on the exploits forum that the newer action replays supposedly corrupt the hacked gamesaves...so I'm not 100% sure if this will all work. If it doesn't, I'll just have to go and buy a MS memory card and then return it (circuit city has no restocking fee, 30 days no questions asked. Just keep the receipt)

Rent one game, get another free from blockbuster:

If I take a look at the /media/E directory, it's empty!

Anyone have any ideas?

what do i need to change from the orginal tut to make it work with a v1.5 xbox.

i know i only need to solder 2 points on top of the board.
But can anyone tell me if i need to use a different xploit/bios.

cheers!

edit: sorted it out just need to overwrite the two raincoat files with the o.51

one question, shall i use evox m7 or evox d.6, and do i need to add anything to raincoat.conf

Edit: just done the mod, works perfect!!!! biggrin.gif

used a evox d.6 and just followed the tut word to word. couldn't go wrong and it didn't.

cheers for a wonderful tut. smile.gif

can i connect the 3 (i have a v1.5) sets of points on the MB, then use action replay to put game save hack on the harddrive of the xbox, put in 007 load the game then ftp in the need ed files and flash the chip there
iknow this may not be what your tutorial was ablout but this will work right

If you don't want to use the linux bios, use XBTool to make a 1MB image of the Xecuter 4976.02 bios and rename it to bios.bin.

I recently purchased my new xbox so I am assuming its 1.5

What bios do I use? The one that came with 007savewithraincoat.zip (bios.bin (1024k) ) ? Or which one of these that came with 007_With_Evox_Installer_PLUS.rar (EvoxM7_256k, EvoxM7_ef_256k, X2_4977_256k, xecuter2_4978.3_xboxMulti_512k) ? Or do I have to download a different one ?

Also after I flash the thing like in step 22-24, am I really all done ? How do I now play games that I burned or ftp to it ? Is the xbox ready to go all moded and nothing else left to install to it to give it full functionality or do I have to install some kind of new dashboard (or did we just do that by flashing it) ?
QUOTE

22. Then type: ./raincoat -p bios.bin to implement the new flash.
23. You will begin to see the TSOP being erased. It will then flash the TSOP and verify.
24. YOU ARE ALL DONE!

Sorry for the stupid n00b questions, thank you all for your help and patience.

Btw: I’m just trying to verify what I think, I’m thinking that i should use the EvoxM7_256k file that I spoke of because I read it many times in the forum but I am just checking if this is the exact one.  I was also thinking that I was completely done after I do this solder and flash trick please verify. Thanks

One more question, Can i use this instead of a memory card (then i dont need a modified xbox)? Thanks

you can use the evox M7 you have, or you can downlaod x2 4981

once you finish step 24 you can play any burned games or install any dashbaord you want to set up playing from HD, look to other tutorials for instructions on that

and yes, that CF converter will work, as long as it gets recognized as a mem card

EvoxM7_256k and EvoxM7_ef_256k are the same, except the _ef_ one will not reset when you push the eject button

4981 will block xbox Live to prevent accidental banning, it has IGR (in game reset) built in, to retsart the xbox by hitting a button combo on the controller, it also says Xecuter under the X instead of micro soft

I can confirm this...     This picture is widely circulated in tutorials,  and is misleading in that  most tuts say "2 points"   meaing "1 set of points"  which the picture confirms by circling in yellow,  1 set of 2 points (doubly-circled in red).
so my friend soldered those two on his 1.5,  and re-soldered them 3 times before we decided to solder the other set of points circled in red.   worked immediately    ohmy.gif

Has any one got this error. I have a v1.4 (clonewars/tetris xbox) and my solder job worked. My first attempt I was able to boot to evox (not using raincoat exploit, using evox exploit) but flash said unable to write. So I followed this tut and when I get to the last step I get this error and no flash of the TSOP. Whats up with that. Otherwise this was the easiest mod I have ever done.  Any ideas?

Elessar, that means that the one or both of the bridges that you were supposed to solder isnt making good enough contact, check and make sure that your soldering is correct.  And did you clean the bridges before you soldered? because the board has a thin lineing of laqure.

So all i would have to do is get the save on my mem card and then take out my Chameleon.. and proceed from there to soldering the points etc..

Is there anything i should keep in mind when i comes to the HDD with all my games/UnleashX..etc?

Great job on the article. I’m a complete XBOX newbie, but was able to undersatnd pretty much everything.
My problem, that I don’t have a second modded xbox. As a workaround I’d like to try to connect hard drive from the xbox to spare IDE controller on my PC and copy gamesaves and EVO-X /Avalaunch directly to the HD. Then reconnect it back to xbox and use these files.
Do you see any potential problems with that?
What is the directory structure for each one of the saves should be?

I followed this tutorial to step by step, everything goes as planned until I get logged into the xbox for flashing.  I type:

cd ../ ../e/udata/4541000d/000000000000/raincoat

and the outcome is as expected, I get a #

so now I type

./raincoat -p bios.bin

here is the problem, it always says "no such file"

I made a 1mb bios since I am flashing a 1.0 and placed it in the raincoat folder replacing the old bios.bin

I am stumped, I have no clue what the problem could be, anyone at all who can tell me what is up with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
Allen

i have a HE xbox, (clear green, halo edition) its a 1.4 i believe... Anyways... i soldered the two points on the top of the board so i can flash my TSOP.  My solder is virtually flawless it appears, yet, my screen is SLIGHTLY fuzzy, not alot just berely.... what could the problem be?

Also am i mistaken or do i have to connect two points on the bottom of the board for this specific version?

i have the rest of the materials all good, and xbox boots up fine.  Just lil fuzzy.

Help Me lol

two points on top will do it.

use raincoat and it will tell you if its good to go.

if using raincoat you will need to telnet in and issue the commands as stated in this thread.

you could try evox to do the flash but you may have a winbond, and these will not flash using evox.

raincoat is the safest way.

ensure you have the right bios, size and type.

if you are too worried about stuffing up try a softmod first.

you new need to look at the chip on the mobo of the xbox.

being a 1.4 version xbox as you say, you will need a 256k bios just use a evox m7 or m8

check this out for the correct bios

apporter, you probably didn't name the bios file you created "bios.bin" and it must be in lowercase (i.e. exactly how you type it) or you put bios.bin in the wrong folder.
Try an 'ls' command to see if it is there.

Does the directory contain a default.xbe?  List the files and directories that you have, you must be missing something.  Download it from xbins and you'll have the correct files.

Alot of people who want to flash their TSOP know someone (or have themselves) a modded XBOX.  I don't know why people are insistent on using the Linux Distro.  You don't need to.

WHAT YOU NEED
1.  A Modded XBOX (For FTP Access)
2.  An UnModded XBOX (Which is getting modded)
3.  A Memory Card (For the 007 - Agent Under Fire Saved Game)
4.  007 - Agent Under Fire ORIGINAL DVD Game.  The Platinum Version works as well. Available at Bestbuy.com, CircuitCity.com, and CompUSA.
5.  007savewithraincoat.zip file from #xbins on IRC - EFNet
6.  A Soldering Iron (15 Watt) from Radio Shack or any local electronics store.
7.  Solder also available at Radio Shack or your local electronics store.
8.  De-soldering Braid (in case you make a mistake)
9.  A couple pieces of electrical tape to cover the surrounding area.
10.  For those of you who like Slayer's EvoX Auto Installer, you can burn the image and load the dashboard that way.  This is version 2.1.  Here's the link to the thread and how to obtain the image.

WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO

1.  Download the 007savewithraincoat.zip file from xbins.

2.  Unzip the file to a TEMP folder on your Windows PC hard drive.

3.  You should now have the following files in the TEMP folder:

UDATA - Folder
gameid.ini - File
readme.txt - File
using_raincoat.txt - File

4.  If you don't want to use the linux bios, use XBTool to make a 1MB image of the Xecuter 4976.02 bios and rename it to bios.bin.  THIS HAS TO BE A 1MB BIOS IMAGE FOR v1.0 and v1.1 XBOX's and 256k FOR v1.2 XBOX's!

THESE XBTOOL SCREENSHOTS ARE FOR v1.0 AND v1.1 ONLY!

(IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sharpie00/xbtool10.jpg)   (IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sharpie00/xbtool20.jpg)

**THE PICTURE ON THE LEFT IS THE ORIGINAL Xecuter2_4976.02_MultiVer_256k BIOS AND THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT IS THE COLORMOD Xecuter2_4976.02_MultiVer_1024k BIOS THAT I WILL BE CREATING.

5.  Delete the existing bios.bin from the 007 Raincoat Saved game and replace it with the new bios.bin that you just created.  It's located in the UDATA/4541000d/000000000000/raincoat folder in your TEMP folder.

6.  FTP into your modded XBOX and copy the ENTIRE UDATA folder from your TEMP folder to the E: Drive of the modded XBOX.

7.  Load up the M$ Dashboard (on your modded XBOX) and copy the Agent Under Fire save game onto the memory card by going to the Memory Tab on the Dashboard.

8.  Take out the memory card and put it in an unmodded xbox.

9.  Load up the M$ Dashboard (on your unmodded XBOX) and copy the 007 AUF saved game to the unmodded XBOX hard drive (just like you did in #7)

10.  Turn off the unmodded XBOX and solder the 2 sets of points on the motherboard.  One set is on top and the other set is on bottom.  Refer to this tutorial to solder those points.  They're labeled "Jumper from MCPX RD# to FLASH OE#" on the top of the motherboard and "Jumper MCPX WR# to FLASH WE#" on the bottom of the motherboard in the pictures.  Remember to use the electrical tape to cover the surrounding area so you don't get solder all over the place (in case you have really shakey hands).  This will prevent you from damaging the XBOX.  You can also use the desoldering braid to pick up any excess solder.

FOR v1.0 AND v1.1 XBOXES (TOP AND BOTTOM MOBO PICTURES)

(IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/azaveri2/1011-top.JPG)   (IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sharpie00/1011-bottom.JPG)

FOR v1.2 XBOXES (TOP AND BOTTOM MOBO PICTURES)

(IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sharpie00/12-top.JPG)   (IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sharpie00/12-bottom.JPG)

11.  Put motherboard back into unmodded (but now jumpered) XBOX and connect everything.

12.  Turn on unmodded (but now jumpered) XBOX.  It should boot as if it was just bought from the store.

13.  Load up 007 - Agent Under Fire.  This MUST be the original DVD.  Platinum version works fine as well.

14.  Once the game starts, Load a Mission from the Hard Drive.

15.  XBOX will go black, power light goes orange.  You will also begin to hear different sounds.

================================================================================
==============

BASIC NETWORKING SETUP

Go to your network properties for your network card. Click on TCP/IP and go to Properties. Instead of obtaining an IP Address Automatically, click on Specify IP Address.

Change it to 192.168.0.X where X is any number from 1 to 255 (except 64). The XBOX uses 64 so you can't. Your subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0. You can set the gateway to 192.168.0.1 if you wish. The DNS entries can remain blank.

(IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sharpie00/network1.jpg)

Hit Apply and OK and you're all set.

If you're using a router, make sure DHCP is turned off within the router software. If you don't have a router, just connect the computer directly to the XBOX using a crossover cable (NOT patch cable).

(IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sharpie00/router.jpg)

================================================================================
==============

16.  Make sure your PC is on the 192.168.0.x IP Range.

17.  Telnet using Windows command prompt.  The command line is as follows:  telnet 192.168.0.64 and then press Enter.

(IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sharpie00/network2.jpg)

18.  Then type: root as your username.

19.  Then type: xbox as your password.

20.  Then type: cd ../../media/E/UDATA/4541000d/000000000000/raincoat and press Enter.

21.   If you want to backup your original bios, type the following command:  ./raincoat -r <<bios save filename>>.bin (Thanks to PsiDOC for the command).  DO NOT SAVE IT AS BIOS.BIN BECAUSE YOU WILL OVERRIDE YOUR NEW BIOS!!

22.  Then type: ./raincoat -p bios.bin to implement the new flash.

(IMG:http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sharpie00/network4.jpg)

23.  You will begin to see the TSOP being erased.  It will then flash the TSOP and verify.

24.  YOU ARE ALL DONE! :D

If you have any problems (i.e. an error that states that the TSOP is read-only), you need to double check your soldering job.  99.9% says that you didn't connect the 2 points correctly.  Go back and re-do it.

It works.  I've done it multiple times.

Remember, once you have the saved game on your memory card, you no longer need the modded XBOX.  You can mod any unmodded XBOX with just the 007 Agent Under Fire game and the memory card!

I know this has been stated before, but hopefully this is a good enough break-down for all the other newbs who may have some questions.

Enjoy :D

When you click on the Memory Tab on the M$ Dashboard, you will have two options.  It will show you your hard drive which as 50,000+ blocks free and your Memory card which has 502 blocks free.  To switch between them, use your directional pad on your controller.

Choose the hard drive first by pressing the A Button on your controller.  You will then have a list of saved games from your hard drive.  Scroll down to 007 - Agent Under Fire.  Once you highlight the 007 - Agent Under Fire saved game, press the Right button on your directional pad to highlight the actual saved game.  Once it's highlighted, press the A Button to select it.  This will give you the option of deleting it or copying it.

Do the same for copying it from the Memory Card to the Hard Drive.

i transfer the save file to a virgin hd this way, (assume, u got a modded xbox around)

dl that 007 save game in your hd, i also dl a software call xbox save manager, what it do it let u transfer a save file back and fore between xbox and pc.

i un-plug the modded xbox hd, and plug in a virgin hd to a modded xbox, and i put in a evox boot up cd. So i can boot up to evox using the evo boot cd, and then i use xbox game manager to transfer the save file to my virgin xbox.

(you need to put the 007 save game inside the xbox save manager save file folder; in fact no need to unzip, the save manager with unzip to xbox for u)

You could do that as well.  But there's really no need to switch hard drives to make things more complicated.  You have to remember, this tutorial is targeted towards people who may not have alot of experience with XBOX modding.

Good suggestion though smile.gif

how u connect your xbox to your pc? thru a router?

if u thru a router, I stole "shr00m" 007 guide last 2 paragraph:

from shr00m 007 guide.......
first go to your browser on your windows pc... go to 192.168.1.1 that will take you to your linksys config on the first window setup, change the device ip to 192.168.0.1, apply this, now you should reboot the router reconnect to it by going to http://192.168.0.1

ok now go to the dhcp tab and disable dhcp, set the starting address to 192.168.0.1 and now apply, now to get internet access you will have to go into your network settings on your windows pc and set your ip to 192.168.0.anything but 1 or 64 , i used 3 and it worked fine..... make sure to set your gateway to 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask will auto fill in, after doing this reboot pc, confirm you have internet access... you should already have the xbox booted to linux (as you can tell this is pre tsop flash info, but its vital) ok if you have internet go to http://192.168.0.64 you should get a page that was served by your xbox, if you do your ready to telnet in and flash.... remember to take care of the jumpers.... and ESP remember to do the extra steps if you have a sharp TSOP flashing is risky but i got through it ok.

end of shr00m guide

if u not thru a router then i think u need to manually config it,

get a cross over cable, and direct connect your pc to xbox, and in network setting, set it mannually to that range

i saw the backup method from this thread:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=43&t=58058

PsiDoc give some guy this command, so credit back to him:

Yes you can back up your original bios using raincoat.

QUOTE (sharpie00 @ Jun 4 2003, 07:52 PM)
Easily fixable.

Hit Apply and OK and you're all set.

If you're using a router, make sure DHCP is turned off within the router software.  If you don't have a router, just connect the computer directly to the XBOX using a crossover cable (NOT patch cable).

I never understood what was so hard about this process.  But anyway, its a good idea to put a switch on vcc <a19> ground, and split the tsop 2 ways.   Then you have 2 512k banks, and there is always a backup.  Oh, if you just type in ./raincoat it gives you an explanation of the command line options.  I was going to tell ou about offsets too, but judging the audience, I dont think it would be prudent.

YES! i finally flash my friend xbox too!

it work!!

I am so excited!!!!!

BTW, i use psidoc command to back up the bio, it was a 1meg bio, so now how can i cut it to 512k? and install the switch??

I would really love more info on that end smile.gif

BTW, i learn the hard way 2 things today.

First, i find out the 007 save file on xbox-save is no bio, i can understand, as it suppose not to host any bio except the conwell. So i need to go back find a bio to put in raincoat directory.

Second, i find out, i cannot run the 007 from the memory card, it just lock up, i need to copy that 007 save to the hd and load from there.

One strange thing, i try one of the technique, i mention b4, and it not working, i try to put a virgin xbox hd to a modded xbox, and try to tranfer 007 save file to the virgin hd. Somehow that save not visible at all? when i ftp to the E drive, it "look" empty. Is it because of the hd lock?

I just have 1 question:

Can i set up my network as this, so i dont have to disable the dhcp of my router?:

                                               Normal Ethernet Cables
Xbox(192.168.0.64)---------------------------------HUB-----------------

-------My PC (192.168.0.24)

so which would have to got the uplink port on the hub? my pc, xbox, or neither? thx a lot.

That should work fine.

Neither would go into the uplink port of your hub.  Put the PC on port 1 and put the XBOX on port 2.  Set the IP Address of your PC to 192.168.0.24 and you'll be set to go.

Make sure you use regular patch cables instead of crossover cables (the hub is your crossover).

Just flashed my v1.4 first mod ever besides removing my aerogel capacitor and it feels damn good to be successful for my first solder job. Glad I found this thread because now I know how to fix my HD because I had used the ndure softmod. Great community and I am glad to be a part of it now. I used the auto installer with the blank screen. Remember if you load it straight off your HD with a softmod remember to delete the flash log if you failed the previous time otherwise it will just sit there and hang.

This will give you the option of deleting it or copying it.

m.e.,

I'm not sure how the action replay works with the XBOX.  No one has mentioned it previously, so I can't be certain it would work.

From what I've read, it sounds like the Action Replay can hook up directly to your PC.  If, in fact, you can transfer saved games via the PC directly to the memory card, then there's no need for you to use a modded XBOX to have FTP access.

I would say that it's worth looking into smile.gif

Great idea!

I remember there was a tutorial on www.xbox-scene.com  telling you how you can split the bios into four parts (if you are using a v1.0 or a v1.1 machine) so you can install two switches on your xbox to allow you to keep your original bios and three others.  I believe this will still work with the raincoat, I am not totally sure however, I will give this a try and verify this.  I have one question though, if I were to flash the TSOP can one reflash it again?  Or is this a one time thing?

black_light,

Yes, if you put a 512k hacked bios + 512k original bios, people have claimed to be able to play on XBOX Live.  I'm not sure of the guarantees, but it's a risk you will have to determine to take. smile.gif

If you were going to use the same bioses, you should just made a 1MB image.

Assuming you can load up 007 - Agent Under Fire from the DVD, you should still be able to correct it.  Load up raincoat from the saved game like you normally would.  Telnet into the XBOX and re-flash the TSOP with a 1MB image of ONLY ONE 4976.02 bios.  You can create the image in XBTool.

That's exactly right.

You just put some tape around the area so you don't drop solder all over the place.  Just put a dab of solder on the tip of your soldering iron and let it make the connection between the two points.

As you can see, the points are quite small and they are not far apart, so you don't need a big glob of solder.

You can do it smile.gif

I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but I'll attempt to help you. wink.gif

1.  If you're using a HUB, you will have to specify an IP Address because a Hub does not have a DHCP server to designate IP Addresses.

2.  If you're trying to load EvoX onto the XBOX hard drive, I would suggest you use Slayer's Auto Installer v2.1.  Here's the link to the forum and how to obtain it:

http://forums.xbox-s...47876&hl=slayer

3.  Once you have EvoX loaded on the hard drive, then you don't need the CD anymore.  You can just go to System Settings and specify the IP address there and it will save it to the hard drive.

If you attempt to save your IP Settings by loading EvoX from the CD (instead of the hard drive), EvoX won't save.  This is because you are attempting to save the settings onto the CD; and you can't do that.  In order for you to save your EvoX settings, the dashboard has to be installed on the hard drive.

4.  If you changed the evox.ini file to use a static IP, don't forget that you need to specify an IP address in the evox.ini file as well.  Setting it to static without an ip address isn't going to do anything.  This applies especially to those that load EvoX from the CD without using the installer.

I hope this will give you some help. smile.gif

I'm glad to hear that you got it all sorted out. smile.gif

So what exactly happened that it all of a sudden didn't work?

Did you already have a modchip in the XBOX that you were trying to flash the TSOP?

What version XBOX were you using?  Also, which bios did you flash it with?  Personally, I use the 4976.02 1MB image.  I don't split it up into multiple parts; I just used XBTool to make the full 1MB image from the original 4976.02 bios.  I haven't had any problems similar to yours.

That's quite interesting that it just started working again.  blink.gif

That's exactly right!

As long as you set it to 1024K, it will create a bios image file that will be 1MB.

And if you want to make it a colormod bios, you can change the colors while you're at it.

I added screenshots for the XBTOOL program so people would have a better understanding.

i find the best way to network a xbox is to have 2 network cards no hub this is also good for xbconnect your get less lag.
all u do is set evox to

[Network]

SetupNetwork   = Yes
StaticIP   = yes
Ip      = 169.254.100.4
Subnetmask   =
Defaultgateway   =
DNS1      = 0.0.0.0
DNS2      = 0.0.0.0
SkipIfNoLink   = No
SetupDelay   = 10

then connect to 169.254.100.4 with flashfxp
if u want to use live go into network connections and set the nic you use for your modem to internet sharing

Actually you can Install the Switch before you flash anything.
Then just simply select the section you want to flash with the Switch and flash it.
Please note: for safety's sake ALWAYS USE A 1 Mb Bios size. (Bios *4).
It does not matter if you are flashing 256, 512, 768 or 1024 kb. The Original bios in the 1.0 / 1.1 is 1 Mb and that's the size that raincoat will recognise it as. So that's the file size you should give it, even if you have Split the TSOP by using switches, so you don't think you need to.

Wierd I removed the solder of the points on top that allow you access to TSOP (not bottom ones) and now it works.........whats up with that. It works as it has never been touched because the bios never actually flashed to it.

The xbox I nearly broke is up and running and I can get to the same point as before, what do I have to do differently???? The jumpers are now controlled by a switch and I am possitave they are connected. The Flash chip is a Hyundai and it rather small (bout the same size as my 1.2 winbond, but this one is V1) I am wondering whether I have to add to the config. I also want to mention I got this 007withraincoat from xbox-saves and there was no bios AT ALL so I put one in the raincoat folder and named it bios.bin. I also wonder if it is missing files it only has raincoat.conf and raincoat along with the bios in the raincoat folder. When I was attempting to flash the v1.2 box I had to upgrade to raincoat .5 and it had alot more.

Thanks in advance for any help,
NZ wink.gif

P.S. Just rememberd I put the wires to be jumped on one small switch (2 wires on each leg) I would think that is not to good, but it was running and it is not the same way I did last time so I do not think it is the problem, but I will put a better one on tommorow.

Black light: I do not think that would be a wise decision. I have never flashed parts like that (I used to have a switch in between 4 256k bioses), If it is to work I would believe you would have to split the 1 meg in two and flash 512k at a time. You might want back that up before you go flashing but my recomendation is to make a bios that contains 2 different 512k bios (whichever two you want) and flash the full one meg before installing the switches, that is how I did mine and it worked like a charm....... until one day I tried to remove them and had the wrong switches on when I went to flash.........

Always flash a 1024 Bios with a 1024 file size. It does not matter wether the bios is split with switches etc.
If a part of the bios is locked out (grounded or Vcc'ed) so it cannot be read, then you cannot write to it either, so that part is effectively safe.

I know what the next question is going to be..... Why do I have to use a 1024 size bios when I am only flashing half the bios?

Answer:
Simply because if your TSOP is 1024, then that is the file size it needs to be fed with, and that is what your flash program will be looking for.
Some flash programs automatically make the file size 1024 if they are undersized - The Latest EvoX dash flash bios command is a good example if this.
If the flash file is undersized and the program you use does not automatically make the file size 1024, there is a chance the the program you are using may not flash the file properly, because the flash program is still looking for the rest of the file to fit the ENTIRE chip. - It doesn't know you have split the TSOP with a switch. It just goes on the TSOP's Idents to what size it is.
The program sees a 1024k Size chip, so therefore it assumes it needs a 1024k file to flash it with. The file being used is only 512k...... Flash program says "hang on where's the rest?" and possibly cannot complete it's task properly.

Next Question:
If I use a 1024 file, but have a switch fitted will I flash the whole chip???

Answer:
No. All you will do is effectively flash the same section twice.
Only if you remove the switch will you flash the whole chip.

Psi

so i dont put the switch and then flash the tsop with the multibios which is executor 2 and orignla combined to make 1 meg bios and flash the whole bios (tsop) and than add the switch stright after i flashed the tsop
Title: The Newbie Guide To 007 - Auf Tsop Flashing

hazza78692,
You can do it that way, however I personally recommend fitting your switch NOW before you flash then flash with a 1024Kb X_2 Bios. So you leave half of your original bios "As is" from M. $oft. That way you know it's correct for going on live.
As I explained before, flashingwirh a switch on the A19 line will simply write the bios the the sectors available twice and will do no harm. This means that the sectors that are unavailable to the flash program because of the switch you installed are still genuine original.

Si

so i put the switch in first then then i flash the tsop
i just have 1 question
what size do i make the bios because one the switch is installed you can only write to half of the tsop at a time you cant flash the whole tsop. so if you can only write to half the tsop your bios soze must  be 512 because the other you cant write to.

and what position should my switch be on or off or not connected (the middle) so a 19 is not grounden or vcce'd

Right the Switch position can be either. It's up to which half of the Bios you want to flash.

The question about filesize I have answered on the previous page, but here is a reprint.

Just make sure you've installed the switch and split your tsop half orig and half mod.

Switch it one way and boot, and it boots your retail bios.  You need to boot the retail bios to play on Live.

Switch it the other way and boot and you've got a modded box.  (You can try to play Live, but you'll most likely get banned).

Let's say you don't have the memory card around, are these steps possible?

 * Take the 8GB harddrive from the unmodded xbox and hook it up to the modded xbox
 * Boot the modded xbox with evox from the CDRW
 * Ftp 007 stuff to the this harddrive
 * Put the harddrive back to the unmodded chip

Will it work?

It would be best if you knew what you were talking about before posting misleading info.

The modchip allows you to boot any *unlocked*  drive.  The modchip will also allow you to boot the drive that is locked for *your* system.  You cannot take a locked drive from one system and install to another and boot it - modchip or not.  It must be unlocked first.

You're better off temporarily putting a modchip in the unmodded box (pogo pins make it easy) and booting evox from CDRW or DVDR, so that you can FTP the savegame over.

I still can't this to work.

I have the proper hacked Mechassault save with the three files, and one directory.

I have a folder called "4d530017" with one file, TitleMeta, and a subfolder called "62D648EBF155" with two files inside, MASave and SaveMeta.

Now, I use the 007 Hack with EvolutionX and take the zeroed-out folder from that, and copy the contents of the zeroed-out folder into Mech's "62D648EBF155". Right?

I do that, and the save just freezes in Mech.

What am I doing wrong?

Yep, according to my figures (and free-x saying that it shouldn't require any more info), what you are doing is supposedly the correct procedure (minus the SaveMeta.xbx and xbsavegame.dat in the 00000000000 folder).

I've done exactly the same with both the signed evox xbe and the linux/raincoat.  Both produce the same freezing results.

I'm imagining that it requires a different signature.

for the record, we're talking about the advertised MechAssault trick...

I wish I knew what was wrong too... MechAssault's loading times are alot easier to put up with  smile.gif

That's the only possible side effect... that I can think of, a least - or that I've experienced.

If you want to avoid a bad-reflash, just #comment out the Flash entry for your TSOP in the evox.ini

If you feel like flashing, uncomment.  Prevents you curious friends from screwing up your TSOP.

Actually I'm using Slayers 2.1, "as is" (rebuild larger HD) so there is no option for flashing TSOP at evox...

I had notice the following (using Evox D6 from 007 save, xecuter 4976.02 & 4977 all 1MB) when I use the In Game Reset the Screen goes black and the nothing happens.  I need to push eject button in order for the evox dash to appear... is this a possible side effect for something?

My xbox is a 1.1 with Samsung DVD & HD (120 GB, 5400RPM) & Flashed TSOP.

Any Idea how to solve this?

Thanks,

Take a close look at the two 1.2 pictures, top and bottom.

Isn't the bottom pair of points-to-be-jumpered also on the top, with one point that's right on the white line around the TSOP?

I'll check this next time I come across a 1.2 board, if this is the case the 1.2 (and I assume 1.3) boards can be jumpered without removing them from the case, making a fast mod even faster!

Finally got it working.  (thanks to Dirty D on xboxhacker.net)

If you've downloaded any MechAssault Live content, delete it.

Finally - no freezing.

/me very happy!

Regarding Elchubi's post regarding leaving the solder points bridged: I'd de-solder them.  Why?  Because if you can reflash the BIOS, so can the game manufacturers.  A quick flash-erase routine buried in a game would have no effect on a write-protected flash (in an unmodded Xbox, for example).  On a modded box with write-enabled flash it'd drop you right in the shit, and there's not a lot you could do about it!

Hey guys,

Glad everyone is having success with the tutorial. Thanks for the feedback.  Props to everyone who is helping everyone else out.  That's what this forum is all about biggrin.gif

I've been out of town for the past couple of weeks (and still currently am).  So I'm not going to have a chance to update the tutorial just yet.

When I get back, I'll get with PsiDoc and read up on the new stuff and incorporate it into the tutorial.

It ought to.  Take your 007savewithraincoat.zip, extract it, take raincoat-0.501.zip, extract it, copy raincoat and raincoat.conf over the ones that came with 007savewithraincoat.zip, put the lot across to the Xbox and memory card.

The updated raincoat program will be able to read raincoat.conf.  The updated raincoat.conf contains entries for the newer flash-BIOSes out there (11 entries in total), which ought to handle your BIOS.

If it detects it but won't program it, check your soldering.
I should be upgrading a pair of 1.3 machines next weekend, so I'll know for definite what I'm talking about then!

You can Flash the TSOP of an unmodded or modded XBOX.  The reason to have the modded XBOX is so you can ftp the hacked save over to the hard drive and then transfer it to the memory card.

Once you have the hacked save on the memory card, you don't need a modded XBOX anymore.  You can just copy the hacked save from the memory card to any unmodded xbox hard drive and go from there.

If you have an Action Replay, I think it may be possible to transfer the hacked save to a memory card without a modded XBOX since you can connect the memory card directly to the PC and transfer it that way.

I wouldn't use an Action Replay or MXK to do it, someone on one of the other topics has reported problems.  An unofficial 8MB memory card should only cost you a few bucks, borrow a mate with a modded + EvolutionX'd Xbox to transfer the save to it.

Just because someone encountered a problem doing it doesn't mean that it can't be done at all. People have been doing it that way and were successful at that. And why would you buy something that can only be use on one device when there's something available that can be use on several devices? Bottomline is, it has been done, and surely it can be done again, it's just a matter of doing it right.

I would suggest using a different NIC.

Also, make sure that you have specified an IP address for your NIC in network properties on the 192.168.0.x range.

I can't really think of anything else.  Maybe try another computer that isn't running WinXP.

ok i have a problem but let me explain every single thing i did.

i have one modded xbox with a matrix modchip, and one unmodded xbox.

first i took the unmodded xbox, and jumpered the two points on the motherboard.

then, i turned the xbox on to see if it works, and yes, it does.

after that, i tried using a memory unit that my friend got free for beta testing xbox live( its orange) to copy the saved game from my modded xbox (that i copied over from 007raincoat.zip file) to the memory card.

but when i would be in the msdashboard and the saved game is selected, i all it says is "delete"! there is no "copy" option.

so what i tried doing was this:

i took the hdd out of the unmodded xbox, and put it in the modded one. i loaded up the evox boot cd, (that i made from the evox files on the modded xbox's files) but when i would go to settings to see what the connection said.... it didnt have a connectoin type, and i could not connect to to the xbox!

im really hoping that this is because i swapped the hardrive.

if someone can help me out and tell me if i did something wrong or if theres something im missing, please do so.

thanks

ok, i got a big noob question here: does it matter what xbtool version you use to get the bios to 1024k? Ive d/l a bunch from xbins and there are different versions. The latest xbtool  is 0.8.27-Does it really matter which version I use? I also noticed that the bios files that I've d/l contain 3 seperate files- Do I just move all three to the Raincoat save on windows temp file and only use the .bin file on xbtool? I havent yet tried this hack yet I'm pouring over the m/b  before I actually attempt to do it.  Apologize in advance if this has already been addressed.

Hey Guys, got a 1.0 xbox.  I also get the "UNKNOWN DEVICE Read Only??? manf=0x09, dev=0x00" error when I try to flash.   I am going to try the modified raincoat (thanks Exobex) tonight.

The problem is......I'm guessing my issue might also be due to when I was soldering the top two jumpers I totally wiped out one of solder pads (MCPX RD#).  I tried scraping a little at the board with a x-acto and then resoldered, but I don't think I got any of the trace underneath.

This is slightly off topic, but does anyone know if there's an alternate point or trace I can go to if the MCPX RD# pad is totally gone?  If so, please let me know where I should try to jumper to.

TIA!  reebo

This MIGHT work.  I haven't tried it and have no desire to, so don't blame me if it's wrong...
Get your PIC12C508 that does the power/eject mod-switching.
Take the wire that would go to D0, and connect it to A18 or A19 instead (look here for pictures that show these points).  REMEMBER WHICH ONE YOU'VE USED!
Wire the rest of the 12C508 as usual.
Do the top-and-bottom TSOP flash points.
Boot the Xbox in "modchip disabled" mode.
Two ways to reflash the BIOS:-
1) Follow the instructions here to prepare your flash BIOS image (if you used A18, your BIOS layout needs to be hack+original+hack+original, if you used A19, your BIOS needs to be hack+hack+original+original).
Do the 007 hack to reflash your BIOS.

2) Use raincoat TWICE with a 256K hacked BIOS image and use the -a command to specify which quarters of the BIOS you want to reflash (00000 and 80000 if you used A18, 00000 and 40000 if you used A19).  DO NOT REBOOT UNTIL YOU HAVE FLASHED BOTH SECTIONS!  IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY FLASH THE WRONG SECTION, FLASH THEM ALL! (00000, 40000, 80000, C0000). If you reboot after doing just one section, the hacked side of the TSOP will only be half done and EXTREMELY unstable!  You'll need to go through the 007 process again and do the other bit.

Remove your top-and-bottom TSOP flash points.

What should happen now, is:-
Boot in "disable mode", A18 or A19 should be forced to 3.3V or 5V (depends on how the 12C508 is powered), locking Xbox into the 2nd and 4th (A18) or 3rd and 4th (A19) quarters of the BIOS.  Remember these are normally all the same anyway, so the settings of A18 and A19 usually don't matter.  The Xbox boots with the original BIOS.
Boot in "enable mode", A18 or A19 should be forced to 0V, locking Xbox into the 1st and 3rd (A18) or 1st and 2nd (A19) quarters of the BIOS.  The Xbox boots with the hacked BIOS.

Good luck.  If it works, post it as a tutorial (but give me credit smile.gif )

Question:
QUOTE
what does soldering the two points do since theres no wires involved

Answer:
What does wires have to do with it? I mean you could use wires if you like, 29 of them if you really like.... But all that you are doing with solder or wire is connecting 2 points..
And in this case you are joining the points on the Xbox motherboard which enable writing to the rom chip which holds your bios.

Rhetorical Question/Answer:
QUOTE
i dont see why if u have a modded xbox already why u wouldnt play backups on that and would go through all this trouble

You probably wouldnt, but this as an alternative method of modding an console...
Basically replacing the bios thru mostfly software (with the exception of the aforementioned soldering) as opposed to hardware .

Anyway... perhaps can answer me my simple question.

Question:
Can I follow this tut from A-Z and then go autopilot with slayers 2.1 on DVD-R?

Connect it to Vcc.
Basically, you need to run 4 wires from the two switches...

Vcc goes to one end of both switches
GND goes to the other end of both switches
A18 goes to the middle pin of one switch
A19 goes to the middle pin of the other switch

Question

After you do the AUF and flash your tsop and install evox. Can you reflash your bios using evox like you would a mod-chip? or do you have to solder that point close to the d0 to the third leg of the onboard chip? and if you do have to solder that wire do you have to remove the jumpers you solder to do the AUF trick? Thanks

hi there. i have a ver 1.1 and when i solder the two jumpers my xbox no longer boots up. i think that this is because i have a sharp tsop but i have heard that you just need to run an extra wire which i have done and it will still not boot up. do any of you know why or what i could do.

Guys,

I used the action replay card to put the AUF with signed Evox on several xboxes to do the font expliot and had no problems. The AUF with signed Evox that I have was supposedly put together by someone to flash his tsop. Should I be able to do the mboard connections and then use this AUF loader with signed Evox to do the tsop flash?

I am not sure if I want to mess with it because the font exploit is working great for me. I did it for a friend and he killed his clock and was caught in loop. I told him to hook up active lan cable and after a few reboots it came back up to evox with clock set. I think if you have your evox.ini configed right it will reset clock from a time server if it can get to one and get out of loop. I haven't messed with newer pheonix loader because 1.0 is working great and I am not having reboot on eject problems so why bother.

Just out of curiousity has anyone tried reflashing their tsop with their retail bios to see if everything returns to normal?

Xbox V1.1 K4817/D4920
Samsung DVD (reads everything I throw at it)

Don't jumper them to each other!  Look carefully at each set of circled "jumpers" and you'll see that each consists of two pads.  You join one pad to the other pad, using a thin piece of wire if necessary (sometimes the solder won't bridge the gap properly).  Repeat the process with the other jumper.  Don't do the bottom one, you don't need it.  If this doesn't work, redo the soldering.

YOU NEVER HAVE TO SOLDER THE BOTTOM JUMPER ON A 1.2 OR 1.3 BOARD!!!
If you've only done the top ones but it's not working, DO THEM AGAIN.

Hmmm... here's a question....
I used the 007 hack to install the font hack with Phoenix Bios Loader a while back.
Well, now I wanna flash the TSOP and although I could do it via EvoX, I haven't seen anyway to backup the original bios, as noted in this tutorial.

I don't wanna have to rent the 007 game again, I'm wondering if I could just telnet in, while the Xbox is running PBL & X2 4977, work my way to the raincoat directory on E and type ./raincoat -r SavedBios.bin from there.

Would this work?

Well, I'm planning on putting in a new Hard drive, so I figured I'd solder the necessary points to flash the TSOP while I have the Xbox open.
Actually, a TSOP flash is a lot cleaner.  The hack is well... a hack.  It isn't totally flawless or anything. I still get a reboot or two now and then.  Plus, since it loads the original bios, then the font hack kicks in, then Phoenix kicks in... it takes a little longer to boot than with a TSOP flash.  Lastly, I'm getting tired of seeing that stupid bird logo everytime I boot up. wink.gif

been using bigfonts for quite a while on a 1.0
now i need a bigger hdd and i didn't wanna pay 50$ for a matrix..

If I am reading this correctly then WOW!!!

So let me get this straight....  If I want to mod an unmodded xbox I just need to solder those 2 points togethere on top and bottom of board.  Then I use the the xecuter BIOS 4976.02 (or can it be any other version?) to flash the chip (TSOP?) on the xbox with xecuter.  Now when I boot up it would say xecuter2 instead of MS.  Then the bottom line is that I will be able to load EvoX and ftp to the box?

DAMN!

after i backup the original bios, i copy a different 007 hacked save over to the xbox so that i can boot up EvoX and ftp into the damn thing...and in doing so, i overwrite the old saved game which is where my backup bios is...right?

kt go to www.xbox-hacks.net get the 007 wit evox zip  im not positive but i think u zip up the whole folder   then u would put it on the action replay card   put it in the controller  load up 007 agent under fire that should bring up the evox screen then u install it and then all thats left is ftp the font hacks to the font folder with pheonix loader 1.3  renaming the original xbox fonts xbox.xtf and xbox book.xtf to sumthin else and ur supposed to include a bios in the root of the pheonix loader folder renaming what ever the bios is called to xboxrom.bin and this results in no damn soldering.

again u ftp the fonts included with pheonix loader then id take that part out and just have the pheonix loader folder saved to cd  or dvd-rw u load the program making lets say x2 4977 as your bios and u should have it as your bios for as long as u want and  congratulations your system is modded

uh, right smile.gif  really, thanks for your reply, but here's what i figured out i could do...

i loaded up the raincoat and ran the backup option again.  now i thought i had tried the usual linux file commands before and they didn't work, but this time they did smile.gif  i think i was trying to use them (mv, ls, etc) before 'cd-ing' to the raincoat dir...anyways... i mv-ed my backup to the root of E:, flashed my tsop with Xecuter2_4976.02_MultiVersion, then copied the other 007 save-game hack that boots EvolutionX over to the HDD.  then i was able to FTP into my xbox, install EvolutionX dash on C: and manipulate all files at will while retaining my backup bios.  yippie!

i'm currently playing with my skin <cough> tongue.gif

Just wonder what different between of 007aufsavewithEvoxInstaller and 007savewithraincoat? All throught this nice tutorial show using 007savewithraincoat with Telnet's comment to flash the Tsop. But i hear 007aufsavewithEvoxInstaller can be flash in Evox not need Telnet comment. Is that true?

Also, why have make a X2_4977 256k file to becoame 1M file? If so, i can use  X2_4978 is 1M file that don't have to run XBTOOL to create a make file right?

So, i can't a modded xbox copy 007 save file to menory card. Can any one have test to run with Action Replay instead?

Before I start I would like to ask a question: My unmodified Xbox is v1.3 so what bios should I flash the tsop with? I don't wanna flash it with wrong bios, please help.

Thank you very much in advance,

Riad, you flash with 256kb bios for a v 1.3 . Try the xecutor 4977

Alright guys,

It's been a while since I updated this tutorial.  I, myself, have only flashed 1.0 and 1.1 XBOXes.  I have no experience with the 1.2's.  Now, if someone wants to send me the info needed for 1.2's and 1.3's, I'd be more then happy to implement them into this tutorial (is the only difference the raincoat version?).  I know there are tutorials on this forum; but honestly, they're a little difficult to read (or I'm just too lazy to pay attention wink.gif)

Also, if someone can send me a diagram about connecting a switch to the TSOP (mainly for 1.0 and 1.1 TSOPs) so I know how to switch between the MS Bios and a modified bios, I would appreciate it.

You can just PM me.

Thanks for the support and props to everyone who contributed to the scene.  This tutorial would have never come about without them. smile.gif

Got a question.  My tsop has been found (after 10+ hours of trial and error)  I have finally gotten upto the point that linux can find my tsop and its ready to flash but cannot find the bios.bin file.  Its 4977 and it was in both the raincoat folder and the 0000000000 folder if i remember correctly.  I figed that it would have a problem reading from the 00000000 when i tried flashing so it was removed and the only one left is in the raincoat folder.  Its a 256k for a version 1.2  any help Thanks FRANK

with this great method, i tsop'ed one xbox, but another one i can't flash at all! i get the mayhap write protected bullshit everytime,... i have checked the solderpoints with a multimeter, and the solderpoints ARE good. i guess its a 1.2, its the same type as the one which worked,, i don't understand it!!!
Title: The Newbie Guide To 007 - Auf Tsop Flashing
Post by: san9jay on September 23, 2003, 12:04:00 PM
i had the same problem with the write protected error. It turns out that in my case the TSOP chip was not being recognzed and hence it was reporting a misleading error.

I was trying to flash a 1.3 XBOX with a Hynix HY29F002 chip using the 007 AUF with Evox exploit.

I added the following line to my evox.ini and used  256KB Xecuter 4977 bios and then was able to flash it successfully.

Flash    = 0xadb0,"Hynix - HY29F002",0x40000

What is also important to note is that for the 1.3 xbox you need to solder 3 solder points. (there seems to be some debate on whether you need the 3 points or just two points are suffficient but I did all 3 points).

I just want to know if I could update my bios by using Slayer's auto install via a cdrw? I'd like to update my bios to the new LBA48 bios. Can I just insert the CD w/the new bios and update it? Will it first erase and Flash the TSOP? I know that Slayers has this option but was wondering if anyone has tried it.

You would have to modify the ISO before you burnt it to CD for it to use a BIOS that had the LBA48 on it (you do this with XBTool, at least I did) then you could use it to flash the bios, but if you used the bios that he includes on the CD, it doesn't have LBA48 patched in.

First off wanted to say THANKS for the TUT..Works GREAT!!

Second..I was wondering if there would be a way to re-configure the changing the way raincoat needs to take the input BIOS.BIN.

Wondering if it would be possible to code 2 options at this point instead, that would allow you to choose either a 256k.BIN or 1mb.BIN

Say something along the lines of BIOS256.BIN and BIOS1.BIN,

I am sure this is a dumb question or prob already done.

Thanks for listening to my raving tho

Wow, I thought the Matrix mod-chip was the only way to go.  I wish that now after doing my first one like this I would have done the 10 others that I did and just pocketed the $45 a piece it cost me for the chips.

AWESOME tutorial.  I just did it to a v. 1.3 with ease. I had a slight problem with some system error, manf=0x20, dev=0xb0 or something like that, so I replaced the old raincoat.conf file with a new one from raincoat v. 0.5 and it flashed perfectly.  Put Evo-x on there with Slayer's auto installer, and voila! perfect.

Thanks again.

OK..super N00b here...

NEED HELP FLASHING MY BIOS

I started modding my xbox with Mechassault font hack... renamed files and did the ernie and bert swap...and the evox dash would start everytime I would start it up without a disk.  It was perfect for ftp'ing files and doing the trial and error routine..but I started getting confused with all the different tuts and nothing would ever show up in the evox menu folders such as FLASH BIO...it would also crash if I wanted to get into my MS DASHBOARD.
so...
I tried AUF and had no success with TSOP FLASH ...soldered the jumpers pretty well...  heres where things went wrong...  Instead of doing the memory card file switch from a modded xbox ..I decided to try and do a straight ftp of the AUF files into my xbox HD using the evox dashboard I installed with the mechassault font exploit...I put the files in the UDATA folder just like where the mechassault files were..
...when I try to load the game file for AUF ..it searches for a few secs and then says UNABLE TO LOAD FILE... so I'm all confused and have tried to reset all my XBOX C: drive files to original default.

heres what I've got...

XBOX V1.0
KERNEL 4034
TSOP - ST  (Not sure what model ST Chip)
Access to MECHASSAULT & AUF (platinum)
1 MEMORY CARD W/ MECHASSAULT FONT EXPLOIT on it
SOLDERED BOTH JUMPERS
ACCESS to a modde xbox

..My next thought was to try the AUF memory card file swap from scratch..

..can anyone help me please??
...I am also confused as to where to put the bios.bin file when ftp'ing so I can FLASH...because nothing ever shows up in the FLASH BIOS option on evox.

Let me know if you need more info..or email me       [email protected]

Thanks guys!  (sorry for my ignorance)

OK here's my problem I'm trying to flash an xbox that I think it's v1.2, it has a doble line mobo power connector and a ST BIOS chip, I telnet to the xbox using 007 gamesave but when the orange light turn on I waited and waited and didn't here the sounds but go on and tape root and the password and it turns fine and when I try to backup the original bios the raincoat flasher says Unknow device. I think this is probably because theres a new version of the raincoat.
My question is with the st chip do I have to use a 256k or 1024k bios and how do I use the new version of raincoat 0.5?

do you need to copy the save game to the hard drive BEFORE you solder the two points? because i soldered them first and then copied the save game over and when i try to run the save game it says "unable to load save game"

anyone have any ideas about this?

thanks!

also i have the Platinum edition of AUF.. is the save game good with this version?

It doesn't matter which order you solder/copy, that shouldn't be the problem.

Some issues are with the memory card used, if your using a 3rd party card, some of them have been known not to work...some have worked for others.  It seems that sometimes the gamesave will become unsigned in the transfer.

Also, about the 007 platinum hits, check the bottom of my signature for a link about em.

I only flashed the box, because for some strange reason I can't get a modchip to work on this box yet.  I first tried my old Matrix with no luck and then a new Chameleon.  But I think the new Cham is bad.  So for now no LIVE, but at least it's working with the TSOP flash.

I picked up my used copy of AUF from Gamestop.  $17.99 up from $14.99.  I think they know about this trick.

I've got a problem:
When i try to flash or save the bios into a file it said "Can't find /etc/raincoat.conf
I tried to copy the file into /etc/ but I've no permision.
The program recognize my TSOP as a Winbond W49F020 but I've got a Winbond W49F020T. So I'm afraid to flash because I'm sure it would start to write from a wrong address.
Any idea???

i dont know if this has been asked already, but can you leave the solder on the jumpers incase you wanted to flash the tsop again w/o resoldering? or do you have to unsolder the jumpers?

You can leave the points connected. Your box will work fine.

Do I need to use XBTool here as the tutorial states or can I just use whatever X2 bios I download, assuming it's the right one for my xbox version?

I ask b/c there are other utils to make the bios 1MB..

Thanks

So if I use this method to flash my TSOP with say X2 4979 then I can play non original games on my xbox right... without doing anything to the xbox HD?

I'm going to buy a xbox tomorrow and it will probably be an v1.4 or 1.5? So my question is: Can i use this 007 hack guide to flash the bios? Does it work on the new versions of xbox? All i need to do is to sold little? Have someone tried this at a new xbox? Must be sure so i don't sold and it's not work.. I'm confused  uhh.gif

I would certainly not try it!

I tried it myself and the points are very small and it's hard to get solder on. Also you can easily make a mistake and it will ruin your whole xbox.

Better just stay with the fonts exploits, they do the same...

Someone wrote this in another thread: With a 1.4 & 1.5 you only need to solder the top two links i.e two (2) solder bridges.

Is it 2 or 3 links i have to solder? Should i use this 007 trick on a xbox version 1.4 or 1.5? If u r good at soldering this won't be a problem?

If you do not have a sharp TSOP then you only need to solder the 2 top points. If you have a sharp then you need to do 3.
