So I locked the hdd using another modded box and then reinstalled it into the box i'm using now. still the same problem this time it's giving me an 06 error code saying unable to unlock HDD.
as rabid said it sounds like you had lost contact with your d0, as such the chip was being by-passed and the xbox was launching as if the mod-chip wasn't there, only the harddrive was unlocked, hence your error 05.
However, since you took your HDD and locked it in another box, the HDD is now locked to the motherboard of the other box. Thats is, your EEPROM is now your trouble. What you need to do, is take the HDD out of your box, unlock it using whatever box you used you lock it (hopefully you'll still be able to...this will also have preveneted you from being able to use another HDD in this 2nd box!), then on your box re-check the installation of the chip paying particular attention to the d0 wire (if you didn't use something to clean the lacquer off the motherboard before the intall I suggest you do, get some denatured alcohol and cotton tips). Re-attach your now unlocked HDD, boot XOS (hopefully) and then lock the HDD from there. The only reason though why you would want to re-lock the HDD is if you need to launch the retail microsft bios to play Xbox live, so unless you specifically need to use the retail bios, leave the HDD unlocked. Leaving the HDD unlocked wont be a problem as the hacked bios the chip allows you run can operate with an unlocked HDD.
I hope this helps clarify things.
