YAY, i just hope that this will install smoothly on my 1.6b from 2.3.0, unlike how impossible it was to install the 2.3 os from 2.0.1, i had to use a friends xbox.  anyone know if recovery mode works on a 1.6b with OS 2.3.0?

Recovery on 1.6B - OS Recovery from HD and DVD successful, using switch and from OS, no corruption of recovery.bin in FTP transfer

n/m i guess it does!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Does anybody know if this is only for 1.6 Xbox's?  I have a 1.0 and have updated my OS before, but now when I try it, it goes into recovery mode and then about a minute later it says -HALT! on the screen and the LED goes red.   I put the recovery.bin in the e\ partition and even tried it with the HDD unlocked and still no luck.

As far as I can remember thats what happens after an update, you get -HALT!, then your led ring goes red, you shutdown, boot up and the OS is upgraded.

Ok.  Here's the process in which I'm doing this.  I downloaded the OS2.3.1 from the site, extracted it from the rar and ftp'd the recovery.bin over to the E partition.  Rebooted just to play it safe and left the HDD unlocked.  Once rebooted I went down to Recovery and started it, at this point the LED flashed red briefly and then starting flashing Orange, at which time the screen popped up and says Loading... after a few seconds this little blurb came up at the top of the screen "getNextClusterInChain:  Attempt to access invalid.... there's more text but I can't read it because of it blending into the background.  Shortly after the LED turned solid red and the text "-HALT!" came onto the screen.  I've been sitting here for 5 minutes now with no restart or any acknowledge that the OS has been updated/upgraded, and I'd understand it being a mistake made by me if this were my first time upgrading the OS, so I don't think that it's a mistake that I have made, just looking for some help.

yo.. don't know about your problem but my OS upgrade went easy.

v1.6

used HD recovery option..

unlocked my HD, FTP'd the .bin file to e:
selected recover in the XOS
video went off, chip LED went green, then orange for 20s, then blue, then green, then xbox shut off.

turned that baby back on and VOILA! v2.3.1

locked the HD and I'm good to go!

sorry if any of you are having problems...

The same basic tips still apply, if the recovery doesn't work from the OS use the switch on the chip. If you FTP from the OS, try FTP from the dash, but delete the recovery.bin from e: first. Make sure the file is named recovery.bin. Make a DVD/CD and use the switch. Make sure the HD is unlocked. Successful upgrade will power off, not go to HALT.

UGH, i expected this though.  no video for recovery, my guess is the xbox never initiates the code, probably due to the SP adapter, OH WELL.

Yeah , I am no programmer, but my guess it is a problem initializing the video when the OS hands off to recovery, or just the video code for the recovery in general, incompatible with the 1.6 video chip. But the light sequence is pretty obvious when it is working, it's just that when there is othing on the screen it makes the process seem to slow time itself tongue.gif

XODUS has really out done themselves.
Not 1, not 2, but 3 bug fixes and it only took a year.

I wonder what new bug fixes we'll get next year?

i let it run all night long, and it didn't work, so it isn't just the video output, but there isn't even a recovery mode running.  and i know that a recovery only takes about 1 minute, if that, on a v1.0 xbox. (maybe all this trouble is because my box is the latest to be made, the one that comes with forza and 2 months of xbox live.)
