Title: Hdd 160 Only Shows 129?
Post by: magicalbum on January 04, 2006, 01:31:00 PM
put in the slayers disk and format the G: drive and it should put the rest in G: if ur bios support it

btw i also did the same thing as u and i only got around 72 GB in F: for some odd reason know any ways i can fix this? cause i tried allocating more space with XBpartitioner and it showed that i have no more free space left to allocate...

r u using a xenium chip?  if so why use slayers cd and not the xenium os to format your new drive?  just wondering..

129 gb is about right.  remember that hardware companies calculate gbs different- they use 1000 mb=1 gb ad it is actually 1024 mb=1 gig (if I am remembering right).....as a rule of thumb: once a hard drive is formatted you will loose roughly 20% of the advertised size of the drive due to incorrect calculations, system files (ie - c: and e: partitions) and such.

to shannon: 129 is not right. i have a 160GB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 8mb cache. i dont remember what i did on slayers cd but now i have 151GB instead of 129 which i used to have. i remember deleting all files and then reinstalling on evox using slayers cd. Try that it might work.

btw, i used all space on f

I've always used the drive upgrade wizard in the Xenium OS to copy my C:\ and E:\ - takes waaaaay to long to copy F:.

to:  10001110101

You're kinda right - I have the same hd that I removed from my xbox when I installed a Maxtor 250gb with 16mb cache and it shows maximum of 149gb under Windows XP.  So it is possible to have 151 gb show up on the Xbox I suppose.   But what I stated about the difference in calculating size and what you actually get is still true.  About 20% or so if I remember right - the larger the hd the more you will loose due to the difference in size calculation.  I also used all of F with no G drive.

You have to make sure that both F and G drives are enbaled, because I've heard of people having issues when their drive is bigger than 127.5 gigs.

either with slayers or xenium OS - I only use f (personal preference) and I haven't had any problems with my first drive:  WD 160gb or my new hd: Maxtor 250gb with 16mb cache

Your problem is your bios you are using is not setup for LBA48 support, partitions over 137g. You need to A: edit the bios to enable support, or B: get a bios that has the support already enabled. Look for an extensin in the file name like _06 or _67. _06 is for one large F: , _67 is for F: and G:.

I suggest getting X2.5035 and using X2ool to edit it yourself though. Once you have edited it and created an X2config.ini to place on E:, you can then make any changes in the .ini without having to reflash the bios. Look on Teamxodus.com for a couple of tutorials by Pezzar on setting up the X2, and he has one for editing the M8 using Evtool. I think there is even a couple of tuts on here somewhere.

You have to edit evox.ini with a text editor to enable the G: partition. If you don't do this, games etc on the G: partition won't show up in the launch menu.

It will be closer to 145 to 150 depending on the drive once it is all formatted out, but if you have already put information on F: that is all you should lose. Just use a bios like X2_5035_v16_512k.bin and edit it with X2ool. After you flash it you can use the OS format partition or load Slayers and format F: just to make sure. Don't forget to copy the x2config.ini to e:.

i just today fixed this same problem on my xbox.

1)there are two m8+ v1-1.5 and one for v1.6. make sure yours is right.
2)edit m8 with EVtool - set LBA48 to "partition 6 takes up to 137/ partition 7 takes the rest"
3)re-flash
if you did this already ok.
4)with UnleashX ->settings->format (somthing like that) g:\
password Xbox
5)evolutionx dash ->settings->enable g drive = yes
6)reboot
if u haven't seen it yet you should this time.

note: there are 2 reasons why you can't see g:
bios doesn't support/drive isn't formatted.

best of luck

This is not LBA48 mode, LBA48 is "partition 6 takes rest of drive" And he never set the drive up for a G:

Is the m8plus16 bios not capable of showing HDD partitions over 129GB?

Yes, get Evtool_1.0.9 and you should be good, although M8 does not supply live blocking when playing games.

hey rabid1, does x2 5032/5035 supply live blocking?
i though if the chips off it doesn't matter what bios your have.
(i was told x2 was a better bios)

Yes, so does X2.4983 and the Yoshihiro Metoo M8+.  Live blocking is for when you are playing a Live enabled game from backup or HD. While the bios is active the ports Live uses to connect are blocked so the game cannot connect looking for updates or you can't accidentally try and launch Live. When you disable a chip to run the retail kernel, or like with Xenium it is disabled when you run the retail kernel you don't have to worry.

sorry zep25 i don't know

i assume that with "partition 6 takes the rest/no partition 7" selection i would be ok.
but i simply don't know.

my problem was i was "missing" 20gb i really didn't care were i had to go to get it, i just wanted it.

also if you want to upgrade your HDD later (i will once i fill my extra space) with a HDD around 300gb
400gb or even a tetrabite G: will end up being the biggest anyway.

avalaunch/unleashx/evolutionX were written before LBA 48 support, when g: was "impossible" now they are patched for g: drive support

with xbmc it really doesn't matter, cause it makes your xbox more like a home PC than a video game console.
xbmc see's everything even x/y/z
i don't care were my space is, i just want it.

sorry i can't answer your question, but i hope this helps

Like I mentioned before there is no g: to enable or format, you didn't set the drive up that way. The partition has to be there, format doesn't create it. You can either reflash the correctly edited bios or rebuild the drive to fit the bios you edited. LBA48 is not F: and G:, that was created before LBA48 was available to allow for drives over 137g to use the extra space.

in EVtool in the lower left hand corner there is a drop down menu, in that menu select
"partition6 takes up to 137gb/partition 7 takes the rest"
save
FTP your bios to C:\bios
in EvolutionX select setting\flash bios
select your new edited bios and hit "y" to start
-it will say erasing than writing.

your new bios is in.

in UnleashX settings (you'll find it) enable g:
in UnleashX choose format g: (password Xbox - case sensitive)

in the main menu in UnleashX you should see g with your missing space.
if you did these three things you do have a G:

evolution X won't show G: underneath F: and e: but it is there.

dvd2xbox u should see it/boxplorer u should see it but in xbmc u have to "scan the HDD" (so to speak)
u do this by clicking right thumb stick then the next menu to the right of "turn off" (directions from t3ch's cvs builds) by the way to see your default.xbe's in xbmc/evox u have edit your .XML/.INI to look in your g:

i highly recomend getting UnleashX for formating and xbmc for a new dash.

now please note : me and rabid1 seem to be giving u conflicting info regarding partitions. understand that this method worked for me, but there might be something i don't know that he's trying to tell you.

keep at it your almost there happy.gif

you only have to format the g: drive
but you do have to format

get UnleashX

u can delete it when this is all done if you want.

question
1) can u see "g:\" anywere? DVD2xbox/boxplorer?
2) is there space on it? eg: 0.00bytes
3) what apps do you have - list

i'm pretty sure you have to "enable g:\" in dvd2xbox's settings for dvd2xbox to see it

UnleashX can format the g:\ only.
you do have to format g:\

keep at it your almost there.

if you want to use the bios with partition 7 takes the rest, then you are going to have to use the HD wizard or Slayers to rebuild the drive to match that bios. Other wise just edit a bios to partition 6 takes the rest and flash it. You will have one large f:. Currently you have no g: partition to enable or format, that is why you can't see it.

Ok, I will reflash with thie new bios modded with "partition 7 takes rest", see if that works.

_iffy,

G: shows as unavailable under XBMC.  Evox settings shows G: 0 MB.  DVD2xbox shows no G: partition and cannot set enable to yes in settings.  Boxplorer shows G: 0 MB as well.

Programs: All from Slayers, Evox 3539, XBMP, XBMC, Avalaunch dash, DVD2xbox (upgraded to 7.2), PxHDDLoader, Boxplorer

I tried formatting just the g: drive with slayers, still 139G
so if you now got another 6g that's 145g which is about all you are going to get. If you format F: you will not loose save games they are kept on E:. F: is not recognized by the MS system.

manufacturers use 1000kb=1mb when they calculate 160GB when actually 1024kb=1mb
so u will never get all of whats advritised.
