check the position of the recovery switch on the chip. flip it so it covers the little black square

Thanks for the reply.

I switched the switch so it covers the little black square but now it boots like a regular Xbox.

Does this mean a bad connection somewhere? I checked & checked these connections.

I wanted post again because I didn't think I did it correctly the first time. <sorry>

I placed the chip back on top of the spike looking things. The only "beep" I ever hear is when I place the one end on where it says D0 (on the chip) and the other on the hook going into the D0 itself.

Is that correct?

the beep is probably coming from the hard disk

check firstly you have the correct D0 point
take the adapter off and check continuity between pin 4 and the d0 hook (look at the bottom of the adapter and you'll see pin 4 is missing. so check continuity between the D0 hook and the top part of the pin that you can see)
then re fit and check that the D0 is in correctly

the v1.0 really is one of the easiest boxes to mod, make sure to prepare the box properly first

I'm an idiot...I now know what you are talking about. I had to read it 40 times to get it...Sorry once again.

Ok, I tested the pin 4 (underneath the chip, the open spot) and the hook. I do get continuity. I get a beep if that means continuity.

Is that a good thing? In the meantime I will once again put it back and try it.

Still didn't work...

I know that hook is in the D0 perfectly. The thing doesn't move.

have you tried cleaning the d0 with a fibreglass prep pen or similar tool

You can spend less time and effort trying to get your adapter to work then ultimately realligning it many times by soldering it in once and for all.  It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

look carefully at the LPC the pins locations are numbered on the mobo
basically looking from the front to the back of the xbox, pin 4 is where there is no hole in the motherboard

I will have to check, but I thought I put something like this in that link:

Xbox front, from top:

It could be pin 2 or 9.
If the black adapter and the white LED board came together it makes me curious if you got a used adapter. they normally come seperate with popcorn on the wires.
 Also check continuity on pins 2 and 9 top to bottom.

I tested #9 on the LPC and grounded the other line and I get a quick beep. (continuity) Is #9 supposed to just give off a quick beep? (but i get a reading after that on the meter, just no sound)

When I test #2 on the chip to the hook I get nothing but I am sure that is nothing to be conserned about. (WIth chip off mobo) I just thought I'd mention it.

It seems that #2 could be the problem. This particular hole has the solder down about 1/4 of the way. I don't believe that the prong (I don't know what to call it) is not getting contact when placed on the Mobo. It is possible.  

I have a friend of mine coming over tonight (Electronics guy but not a gamer) to look at the continuity stuff and to see what other issues could be causing this. All I do is tell him what it is supposed to do.

Maybe #2 needs that Xacto you mentioned. (?)

Is it sensible to "remove" the solder from any of these holes and stick in the rivets? (Mainly #2 & #9)

On my Xbox (v1.1) all I did was use 3 rivets in #'s 1, 2 and 9 I think) I followed the directions but don't remember which ones they were off hand. It could have been 14, & 15, not sure)

All went smoothly and it is now working. My friend used a solder sucker and removed the solder in the LPC. Put the chip on and it worked right away.

My only issue is this: after installing Slayers disk, (which took an hour & a half...dang Thomson drive) I get an error 21 before loading the EvoX dash.

Have you ever heard of this error?

I will give advice to others now that I went through this twice and feel comfortable with the process now.
