lets Can any one help me with my problem

My Xbox has been currently running fine, but i have a problem which i have been putting off for a while and now its starting to come into play (25 gigs left.) I have a 300 gig WD and my box only recognizes the 137+ as usual. Can some one lead me in the right direction for performing an upgrade\fix so i can get the G partition? I have heard i can backup\reformat my entire drive then use xbTools to repartition my drive. and if this is possible, where can i find the bios i need to update- and which order do i need to go in to do this? Sorry if this is confusing or sounding to n00b, but i haven't worked on my box for about 8 months.
