Title: Reflashing Ice
Post by: bigphill911 on March 07, 2005, 11:09:00 AM
Ok I'm trying to reflash my chip because it accidently got moved to the revovery position (what a pain in the @$$) and after about 6 different disk it finally hasnt said halt... yet atleast lol. So what I'm wondering is how long does it take before it shuts itself off? I rember reading that it shuts itself off when its done but its been about 10 minutes now and it still says loading on the screen is this normal? Let me know asap thanks.

I've had a guy burn disk for me that has done this numerous times and all them say hault except for this one that keep saying loading. Should the hard drive be plugged in or not? What should I do? This is so frusterating! I'm beggining to wonder why in the hell I bought an Xenium Ice chip.

Hi

Why dont you upload a bios to your C:\ folder of your xobx via the xeniums onboard ftp feature then flash that way,  and if you cannot ftp try uploading a bios to a usb pen drive and insert it into your xbox and flash via that method.

Thats the reason you bought the best chip on the market is gives you all the features you need thats why you are given them because flashing by means of a media disc is just crap as you have found out, by far its one of the easiest chips to flash on the market, plug and play almost.

As has been pointed out to you already a flash on a bios even a 1meg in size one shouldnt take more than a few minutes at most. so i would agree that your xbox is NOT reading your media or it has not been burned in the correct manner so sadly for these issues you CANNOT blame the chip.

and yes due to the xbox's own onboard diagnostic feature it will give you an error if you try and bot with no hard drive plugged in.

Regards

for the 2nd time it isnt a bios that im trying to add it is the os i cant even get to the xenium os screen. also is it weird that if its in normal mode it starts up blue but if i have the recovery disk in the dvd drive and hit eject it goes to recovery mode threw that seems really weird to me?

Hi

Firstly sorry for my stupidity over the confusion between bios and O/S

can you boot the o/s thats there at all ?

If so again ftp is your friend as the by far best method if you can boot the o/s is to place the "recovery.bin" in  the root of E:\ on your xbox and flash the O/S by that means.

If you cannot then you are sadly going to have to persevere with differing brands of media as from the symptoms you are describing it would appear that your dvd drive does NOT like the media type you are using.

failing that a third method available (if you have a friend with a booting xenium anyway)
Is to place his booting chip in your xbox, ftp the recovery.bin to your root of E:\ swap out to your chip again and flash the o/s that way

you could even try installing your chip in another xbox and trying to get the other xbox to read the disc you have on its dvd drive.

The problem can be fixed easy even though it may not seem so to you  just now

This very issue is a good reason to keep a copy of the recovery.bin (even an older version to get you outta trouble) in the root of E:| at all times just incase

so to summerise id say you need to if possible put the recovery.bin on E:\

find out what brand of DVD drive is in your xbox and then find out from searching on the forums here to find what brand of media that particular DVD drive WILL actually read again just because your xbox cannot read the media the chip cannot be held accountable for that issue

try a different drive and see if you can the recovery.bin file to your e drive and then try to see if you can reflash it.  what is it solderless mod or soldered? if it's soldered or solderless try removing it and readding it.  no lie sometimes stuff like that actually solves the problem.
