Title: I Desparately Want This To Work Need Help!

Well, yesterday I bought this xbox mod chip which just came in only an anti-static bag. Well, after some research i figured out it is called a Xodus or it is a clone of a xodus. It is a solderless mod chip and all I had to do was screw it down. All that happens when i turn the xbox on is the light on the chip lights up as solid green. But in the Xbox it acts as nothing happened and works if there had been no mod chip installed at all. So I'm guessing it has no BIOS in it. No matter how hard I try to make a bios disk with various BIOSs the Xbox starts up and says it does not understand the disk. So what I am asking is, did I install this chip correctly, How do I flash it, How to install it correctly if it is installed correctly, and if there is somewhere I can get a bios cd already made. If anybody can send me any iso bios cd that will work with my mod chip and with the evolution x dashboard I would be REALLY grateful. I have been trying to make this thing work for over ten hours.

The settings of the two little switches on the chip. The switches determine if the chip is disabled or which bios bank is used to boot from.

What exactly is supposed to happen out of the ordinary when I turn it on?

I read on the website that it does not have any bios to begin with. You have to flash them yourself. But I can't seem to make any CD at all that my xbox will read. I have the xbox with the phillips drive. No ,atter what mode I set it in, the xbox does nothing out of the ordinary. I don't know if the mod chip is e ven working right. So does anyone know if there is a) A programmer thing to program the chip from the computer still available cool.gif A way to flash it with the computer through the xbox by connecting them with a cat 5 cable c) or any bios and cd type that is very reliable that works well with this xbox and drive and chip. sad.gif

The Matrix chips are programmed with an external programmer connected to a PC. Once the bios is programmed you can put the modchip in the XBOX.

Mode 1, Chip disabled, switch 1 & 2 ON
Mode 2, Mod bios always loads, switch 1 OFF, 2 ON
Mode 3, Mod bios loads first, eject loads original bios, switch 1 ON, 2 OFF
Mode 4, Write enable (used for flashing), switch 1 & 2 OFF.

matrix chip
was accompanied by a programmer
u need it to program the chip
since it was shipped blank
unlike other chips at that time which
were shipped with an "illegal" bios!

I have a matrix & programmer I could sell.

I checked ebay a while ago, but modchips are non-existent.

Is there another place to sell older chips?

How did people ever get along without the ICE?

I see. Thanks for helping me out. Looks like I'm going to have to get a programmer now biggrin.gif By the way, are there any disadvantages to this chip what so ever besides it not being flashable through the xbox?

Well I got the programmer in the mail today. But I'm still having trouble. The programmer manual is terribly written that I found at the website and doesn't help me much. When I try to load and write a bios then read the chip it says it is holding a bios with an unknown name. It also loads up with only one bank so I'm guessing the other isn't working or somthing. In the manuel it says the led on it turns off when it is being written or read but it stays on red. Can anybody give me some advice on how to set it up and how to put on a bios such as evox?

You won't 'see' anything different until you install a replacement dashboard. The bios is just a hardware interface. It doesn't display anything except the logos and startup animation.

Make sure you have the chip's mode set right. You have to select Mode 4 to program the chip, then select Mode 2 or 3 to use the mod bios or else the retail bios will load instead.

The word MS under the XBOX logo will always remain there, unless you are using a bios that changes it (X2 for example says Xecuter instead of MS, but EvoX still says MS)

The bios may very well be loading up, but if your disk is not burned properly, or on media that your XBOX can read, it will give the same error message.

Which bios did you program onto the Matrix? I would suggest editing the bios with a bios editor so you can change a color or something so you can visually tell if your modified bios is loading or not.

Also, you should verify that your D0 connection is secure. If this connection is not proper, then your modified bios will not ever be loaded.

Well now it looks like it is making some sort of contact with the xbox. But whats weird is when the chip is in now the xbox tries to start up but shuts down then tries twice more and the button on the front of the xbox starts to flash red and green. It doesn't do it if I remove the chip though.
