Title: My Chip Is Retarded. Please Help!
Post by: Dangerously_Cheesy on October 20, 2004, 02:19:00 PM
Okok...I soldered correctly and all that the chip works, I can get to the menu all that good stuff but here is the punchline: The chip is retarded. I am trying to update to 2.01 from 2.0 beta 2 (I have an ICE) and when I try to FTP to the chip, the chip displays at the top of the screen (exception XXXXX.x (0) ) and a bunsh of other exception numbers and then reboots! This only happens as I'm connecting to it via FTP...Oh turn SMB and Telnet off you may say? buzzzz nope! tried all combinations and they didnt work. Now I said to myself, "Alright, well seeing how the network code on this blows all to high heaven then maybe I can BURN the recovery BIN onto a disk and recover via that! BUZZZZ NOPE! I burned the iso onto a CDRW and DVDR and nothin. I then said okok..maybe its the iso file and then went on to take the BIN itself and burn it along with a dummy file. Again I tried with a CDRW and a DVDR and the same thing happens: the recovery screen says loading and then "Cannot locate first sector" and then a HALT!
What is wrong here? I want to upgrade the dash so I can lock my Harddrive!!! this is Bull. please help me. Its just a doorstop for now until I get this workin!!

Can you load a dashboard? If so try ftping while in the Dash and put the recovery.bin in E:\ then from the Xenium menu choose recovery. See if it will uodate that way
...No.

If I'm unable to network to my chip to flash it in the first place then how can I possibly have a Bios flashed onto it. I gave you all the info that could possibly be needed. Can someone that knows what to do help me?

I'm just frustrated and you are questioning the obvious. I'm not a noob at this so I can handle the answer without baby steps
Now as for your second answer: you don't know about the 2.0 beta 2 bug that doesn't allow ya to upgrade via USB huh? I have tried this and even their main forums say this method won't work. The only answer I have so far is from one of the team xodus guys actually taking the chip and flashing it for me from their xbox.
If anyone here with an aswer to my problem (no 12-step, I need someone who knows how to fix this problem) then post and you find yourself as the smartest man in the xenium world because no one can answer this prob.

Here is a few questions for you
Which version xbox? If you have a 1.6 you need to unlock the hd before doing the update from what I hear. If 1.5 or below, then see below.
What FTP prog are you using to get into xbox?
Do you have the recovery switch activated on the chip? (you don't need to unless you f'd it hard)
those are the 2 I need to know for the moment. I have the same chip with a 1.4 xbox and I downloaded the 2.0.1 hdd version xenium OS - ftp'd the recover.bin file (that one doesn't reset the configs on chip) it to E:\ on my box and rebooted, then went to the recovery option on the xenium menu, it found it, did its magic and turned of the xbox. Boom - new OS.
