| Hello everyone, I updated to 2.0.0 final from beta 2 ver 2 this morning with the iso. One thing that suprised me was that the rar download file was 984 kb's and when unrared it was 331 mb's talking about compression!. |
There are 2 files in the rar, The OS file and a "dummy file". The dummy file is there to use space on the cd as often the xbox wont read a cd if it isnt large enough.

Another problem. The files on my F partition don't show. Does OS2 look for the superblock for partition 7 to determine if there is one? That would lead to false positives sometimes.
Edit:
Well, after adding some files to my X. Y, and Z parttitions to verify that listings worked on those all networking broke. Switching back to dynamic IP fixed the dead network. Now it's set to static again and working.
Weird.
Edit again:
Ok, when I ftped those files over (as mentioned above) I was using my dashboard's ftpd. I decided to do the xfer using 0S2's server and got a kernel panic and reboot after starting the xfer of a 500k file to X. The file did transfer and NOW it's working (I can transfer stuff to X, Y, and Z--still no files on F, though). |
Hi nghtshd...
The eeprom problem is strange.... any chance you'd be willing to send me a dump of that eeprom for poking-at?
As for the F problems... how was the drive partitioned?

I have a 1.1 xbox and tried the hdd methoth it just gives me an error message and then halts trien the iso method with the dummy file and does the same thing halts. I have have tried with the hard drive locked and unlocked. Any ideas?
Tried the HDD method. The screen immediately goes black and the box shuts itself off. WTF?

I'd be glad too send the eeprom dump. Shouldn't I still have options to restore the eeprom regardless of the contents, though? Seems like that's the whole point =).
RE: partitioning. I don't recall now. I know I've partitioned it using XBpartitioner in the past, but the last time I formatted this drive I don't think I did. Not sure, though. It's partitioned as one large partition 6, and it works fine with X2, Evox, and Ind BIOSes. It's just in Xenium OS that it isn't showing files. How do you distinguish between 06 and 67 schemes, because I've had the disk partitioned both ways. It's mostly empty, so I know the old partition 7 superblock is still there, so if XOS looked for that to see if there was a G it would find it even though it isn't used.
I am having a problem with the built in webserver. It is saying there is no default.asp. I am running a xbox 1.6.
Seems as though everbody is having issues upgrading form OS2 beta 2 using the HDD method. Sounds like a good plan to hold off. Im sticking with the beta for now.

FYI I did two OS2 beta upgrades to OS2 final via the HD method without any issue..
1 on a 1.1 xbox and the other on a 1.6
Both were Xenium Ice chips.
I noticed one bug though.. for some reason flashing via SMB to a PC share I could only see maybe half the files and subdirectories on my PC's xbox tools folder that I share out.
That wasnt there before under the OS2 beta I used to be able to see all the files and folders.
Also joystick response with a controller extension cable attached is very dodgy...sometimes you get 2 characters sometimes you have to press multiple times to get the input recognized..
I'm pretty sure thats new as I dont recall that being the case before.
**edit**
just read someone else with the same joystick response issue.. it does appear to be related to having joystick in controller 2..
once I removed all but controller 1 it was back to normal.
the number of whiners compared to the people who got it working is about 1:10,000
i got it to work with ease and so can you...

yeah i agree but i have remained quiet about that because of the apparent difficulty in implementing that feature...
I'm sure it can't be easy... although the Webserver is a nice feature to have....

Thanks! Now if I do it with CD, do I need to boot to the XOS 2 Pre-release (loaded on it now) and choose recovery then boot with the CD in, or do I just put the CD in and reboot?
I just succesfully updated 2 boxes. My friends box (1.4) had the stock m$ hard drive. I was able to update from the hdd (e:\recovery.bin). Now however when I did mine, 1.4 halo le box with 160 gig hd, it wouldnt let me do the hd method at all. Tried with hd locked and unlocked. Finally got it to work after burning recovery.bin to a cdrw. All in all it wasnt that bad. Not sure why mine wouldnt work from hd on my box but at least I got it to load from the cd. Oh and box are os for the chip was the beta 1 2.0.
DIsable PASV mode and "Show all/hidden Files" in FlashFXP.
Why are people having trouble with the Upgrade?
The safemode doesn't change between OS's.
I would guess there is some software aspect to safemode that also is getting corrupted .... just speculation.
Here is my problem:
Tried to do the HDD Upgrade - got an error message that "ATX Cluster. Out of data when reading cluster 19088743". Rebooted XBOX - no video on through Hi-Def. Switched video cable to normal composite. Rebooted Console. Just shows the Xenium recovery screen and the same error message.
Download ISO upgrade - burnt it to CD-RW. Put in it the drive, rebooted. Same screen. Switched the chip in to recovery mode. Rebooted. Same screen.
Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks.

Yes disconnect your HDD and it can't load from the HDD.
Put your CD (make sure it's CD-RW or a DVD)
Thx TeamXodus

All I did was copy the hard drive's download (recovery.bin) to a cdrw and hit recovery and it read from the cd and worked.
i doubt this is anything, but i'd be interested in knowing 2 things:
it looks like xbox-scene has a dl for the os and so does team xodus. is the xbox-scene dl link forwarding to the team xodus site, or is it a seperate dl directory.
if it is 2 seperate directories, is it possible that one of the directories is corrupt somehow. i would assume the only way to find this out is to ask those having problems where they got their os dl (assuming its the 2 seperate directories).
i know this is probably way off, but something like that has happened to me before, unrelated to the xbox. dl a file from 2 reputable sources, identicle files. seperate sites and directories. one was corrupt, the other was not.
anyway, i'm still waiting a bit to do it. dl'ed it. just waiting.
Got mine straight from xodus site
ATX Cluster. Out of data when reading cluster 19088743
if this happens just sit tight!
and wait! dont power off
upgrade will take place anyway
How do I upgrade off CD? Burn the CD, put it in the drive and reboot? Or do I need to put the CD in the drive and hit recovery and it will do everything else?
Thanks!
Hi, I'm a noob here, running version 1.6, xenium ice.
I just upgraded from os 2.0 beta to 2.0 final this afternoon. I tried the hdd method first, which didn't work. I would get a black screen, flashing orange eject led, followed by solid red.
I went with the iso method, and it worked the first time.
The only oddity i've noticed since the upgrade is that when I reset my network settings, i chose to 'restart network' after i had them all set. it sat there forever (like 30 minutes) saying 'restarting network', finally i power cycled. when it came back up, my setting had been saved the way i entered them, and everything seemed to work ok. i didn't try to restart network again 'cuz i didn't have any need to.
everything else seems to ROCK!!! I LOVE THIS CHIP/OS!!!

So far I've only seen a few people with sucesss on the upgrade. Guess I'll wait. A saying my dad always tells me
"If it works dont fix/mess/upgrade/fiddle with it"
I've had no problem with my Xenium ICE since it was installed and I want to keep it that way
|
I've got another one for you

"bad news is louder"
Basically, people who don't have a problem, don't tend to tell the world about their non-problems. So with things like this you only hear from the people with problems, even if the vast majority of people have no problems.
I'm thinking there's just more people with problems because there are more people installing this version since its a FINAL and not BETA release.

Hmmm
Why would you need to get your original drive... unless you don't have your original MS dash on your c drive.
(or if your current drive is not lockable)

Yes, or if you cant do that, then you need to flick the recovery switch on the actual ice

| I did one yesterday, and the OS would not detect the D:\ drive at all, eventually I just wound up using the Included FTP, which to be honest is buggy at best, and flashing it that way, but it really isn't good enough. |
The d: drive will only appear if the CD/DVD in it can be read by the DVD drive in the xbox.
The DVD drive in xboxes are notoriously crappy and often won't read many different brands of media, hence the importance of being able to flash via the network or usb drive.

I got that error when I upgraded one chip to XOS2b2... did you try just letting the upgrade continue anyway?
It seems to have worked fine for me.

| I have 2.0 pre release on the Xenium Ice Solderless mod chip i just received for my xbox v1.0. I only have 2 S Controllers, i have no originals. Am I out of luck? I dont even know anyone that has an original controller. Any ideas? |
Why would you be out of luck? It works fine with the 'S'.
Just got them in the mail, they are generic ones =( Didnt realize that when i ordered them as they are identical in looks except the logo

Recovery/Install worked without flaw, yellow writing at top of recovery mode screen is still off the top of the screen on my tv
power then eject doesn't seem to cause the green flashing light, i'm also hoping it doesn't happen any more after power is disconnected for a while
(this is finally what drove me to run the update
)
Repair HDD Upgrade - good move
, will it damage the save games on the new HD if its performed? should it be performed by people who have already done the e: drive format with evox (as per my guide?)
I will test the HD upgrade wizard et al when I next have to mod an xbox
Restoring EEPROM from BIN, fantastic feature! I tested it... seems to work
Restoring from Backup, its probably still worth while to prompt a user to perform an eeprom backup the first time they run XOS in their xbox when there is no backup? Too many newbies don't make a backup, and then screw up their eeprom.
New Improved QuickBoot with Timeout rocks
), much easier to use than having only a few milliseconds to press the controller in just the right way
Can you make it so that pressing "start" on the timeout screen aborts the timeout? (ie goes straight to the main screen)
Launch Item -> Add Flash Item, file list still doesn't seem to be in alphabetical order (i don't know what order it is in), rather than using an empty name for bioses which don't have a known checksum it'd be much better to use the filename less the .bin extension.
Keyboard, no insertion point detracts from the ease of use, means you can't see spaces which have already been typed... helps those with no short term memory
Ability to view/reset the LED colour without having to delete and re-add a bios would be nice.
Not being able to see the LED colour on the LED/Xternal LED when picking a LED colour like you could in XOS1.1 is a feature I miss and was way cool just for demonstrating the niftyness of the Xenium's RGB led
Cool, gateway and dns settings seem to have been grabbed via DHCP now
))
SMB server doesn't require dynamic IP
), haven't tested yet as the OS I'm currently running only supports SMB to IP addresses/domain names.
The Web Interface is *VERY* promising! Flashing via the web is very neat, as you can type the name quite easily
, Actually, its more than promising, its extremely useful
. Can you add an option to change the video mode. This would solve all the problems where people change their video mode and then they can't change it back because they can't see what they're doing!
Sometimes when I go into Xenium OS it comes up in black n white, doesn't really matter, I think its just my TV detecting the xbox as an NTSC source before it switches to PAL or something like that, in fact, if its grey and I force the TV to PAL, then it works fine, if I then put it back on auto its working fine, so I guess its just a minor issue with XOS booting into NTSC then switching very quickly to PAL. I guess turning the TV off/on would also fix the problem... I wonder if people with rolling video aren't just experiencing the same thing.
The blue hilite rather than greying the text is MUCH better
(I nearly didn't notice it
)
telnet info command looks like lots of fun
still need to update the help command to at least list all the commands, along with probably a warning
FTP client compatibility still needs work.
I think the most important thing now is to optimize the partition copier so that it can be used to upgrade large drives to larger drives, it is one of the potentially killer features of the xenium, and its a pitty its not really practical currently.
My favourite pie-in-the-sky feature would be a simple file manager to make it so you could fully install an xbox with a USB thumbdrive
Tests performed on a Crystal Edition 1.4 Xbox with Xenium ICE
i upgraded a couple days ago, but havent had a chance to play much to figure out any issues. i used the hd method utilizing smart ftp, then recovered, worked fine. so far i have found 2 things, 1 very good, 1 just annoying but not something to gripe over.
the annoyance: before i upgraded, when i'd boot to os with eject, all was fine. now it still boots to os, but also ejects the dvd tray. odd.
the good news though. and i'd really like to know if anyone has some input on this, because it would be positive input and not griping. since upgrading, and reinstalling my bios (4983.06), my overall performance runs much better, faster. boot is super fast. even little things such as the rss feeds scrolling across the screen used to be a little slow, now they are much faster. not sure where this comes from, but i definately like it.
like i said, so far i havent had any issues. played a couple games for about 5 minutes a piece testing. they seemed fine. streamed some vids to xbmc, worked fine. avalaunch worked fine. so far, i have no issues other than the dvd thing, which isnt an issue, just an annoyance.
a feature that i thought of that might be nice. i can understand that running bios from flash as it would run faster. i can also understand benefits having bios on hd, as you could have mutliples (though i only have a need for one). what if there was a swap system, kinda like ram. you'll have a launch command, and when you launch, the chip is auto flashed with a bios from hd. if later you select another bios, it wipes and overwrites with another. something like that. i don't know if there is a ram type solution for that, but seemed like another alternative.
good job xodus. keep it going.
Ok so I wanted to upgrade my OS, so I ftped the new .bin file, went into recovery and flash it, it said got from hdd, so I turned it off. When I booted up it kept fragging. Then I went into recovery mode and it said got from hdd. Now when I boot I get no video and I get the green LED. What can I do?

This only happened to me the once, when I first started up XOS 2.0.0, I assumed it stopped happening because I enabled InstantBoot, but now I'm not so sure as I think it stopped happening even before I enabled InstantBoot
