Title: V.4/v1.5 Solderless Kit
Post by: cFoo on September 13, 2004, 11:32:00 AM
The chip will not work if you have a 1.5 and do not solder the 3v wire. It's very simple, if you're not comfortable then I suggest getting someone else to do it for you. PIN header install (solder) is still the best ways to do the mod. The solderless adapter is useless and comes with lots of headache.

There is no such thing as a v1.5 board.  Your board is a v1.4.

However, to anser your actual question: no, the only way to determine if a board is v1.4 or v1.5 is with a meter.  So go buy a meter, you can pick up a cheap one for about $5.

If you do have an untouched v1.5, you could win money and prizes... Ask Me How!

But, don't worry, you don't.

It's more then just a bet....

More importantly, if they do exist, I'd like to have one, to try and determine exactly WHY they exist, and to determine if there are any other, yet undocumented, changes that may affect compatability.

But... they don't exist, so I'm not too worried.

Why if you have an untouched V1.5 motherboard you will win prizes, etc???

For some weird reason he thinks they don't exist so he has a pool of like 20+ modchips to whomever can deliver an unmoddified 1.5 xbox.  I think that if more ppl knew about it the prize would be claimed in a matter of days, the prob is not many ppl know about it.

You seem pretty confident they do exist... so you must run into them a lot then? Why not grab one yourself and take me up on my offer?

I haven't seen one yet, but I also haven't seen a sharp tsop but no one claims they don't exist.  There is no reason to claim that there is no 1.5, no one gains a thing, its just silly to claim they don't.

Not as silly as you might think.

If you knew the background of the situation, you might even agree with me.

Besides... it'd be even sillier for MS to have removed power and ground lines that they use, themselves... and even sillier of them to have done this silly thing on so few boxes that after nearly a year, noone has yet been able to produce a single one, and sillier still to then put those power and ground lines BACK onto the LPC header of the v1.6, especially considering that they'd removed most of the rest of the LPC bus on the header.

It was silly of the people involved to make up the myth of the v1.5 in the first place... and somewhat irresponsible as well, IMESHO.

But, regardless.... I'm still waiting to see a v1.5.  Until I do, I will continue to assert that they do not exist.  Feel free to disagree, and I look forward to the day when you can prove me wrong.
