Title: Which Modchip If I Want To...
Post by: Mintz08 on August 19, 2004, 05:37:00 AM
Ok, I wanna buy a modchip. Soldering and prices aren't an issue.
I want to...

Download games/movies on the HD
Play movies no matter what region they are.
Play games no matter the region.
Play movies that aren't copyright protected
Use XBMC or XBMP, whichever is better (Which is better?)
Play modded maps and such with Halo.
Emulate.
I don't want to use Xbox Live. I bought another console for that.
I also don't want to use keyboards/mice; just a controller.
I also would like to do whatever other cool things every modder must be able to do smile.gif

heheh, when did I say that... unsure.gif j/k. Thanks for the heads-up.
I'll research tsop, thanks.
btw, XBMC is just a beta, but it still works right? I'm assuming updates/patches will be released...

ah, true...

What BIOS' are compatible with Xenium ICE?
(tries very hard to say this without sounding like an annoying n00b)
Which one is the best?

If you dont want live, Id definitely go for a tsop flash.  Once you have the tools needed it shouldnt take more than 15 min tops.

Xecuter 4981 in my not os humble opinion....

if you want a Xenium ICE i recommend www.bmmods.com

$49 each i believe.....

i like the Xenium for its recovery features... it always helps me repair my xbox when i've screwed it up in so many amazing ways.....

it has a FTP server and a samba server in the legal Xenium Operating System (XOS2)

it will load in many cases where you would otherwise be screw'd....

good luck on the modchip hunt  smile.gif

If you do it right it wont get corrupted, and even if it does he can always get a chip to fix it.  I say dont buy a chip unless you need to.

I don't really feel comfortable with a tsop install, and if the Xenium Ice really has recovery options, then I'd feel better knowing that. I'm still a modding n00b, so "recovery" is a godly word to me smile.gif

Does soldering have any advantages over solderless or vice versa?

Can someone do me a favor?

PM me on which folder Xecuter 4981 is in? I know it's discouraged to talk about on these forums, and I hope I don't get dissed/flamed for askin, but I can't tell which Xecutor is which... sad.gif (gosh, can I make it any more obvious how n00bish I am?) Thanks for the kind soul who pities me  laugh.gif

btw, what is this "punching bag/dummy file/fluff" thing and what is it for?

Thanks again for your patience and understanding!

The xecutor bios is under xbox - bios - xecutor, if you have a 1.6 tho you need to use evoxm8_1.6.

Do not use the solderless adapter, its garbage.  Trust me, solder the fucker in, it will save you many headaches.

IMHO the X3 appears to be full of fluff. Damn... external switches... I thought this was the 4th generation?

Seriously, if you just want a modern modchip without all the useless crap, the ICE is where its at at this point in time.

Why would you get an original? Ive seen both and the ice seems to be much better in so many ways. Please explain your reasoning. Anyone have any ideas? The only thing I can think of would be price.

Well, I got the Xenium ICE, and now I just need to solder it in, and figure out how to flash the BIOS  unsure.gif

Well, the Xenium OS is workin just fine for me, the BIOS is what I'm having problems installing. If anyone has some spare time to help me out, my MSN is [email protected] and my AIM is Mintz08.

The OS2 has been in a beta stage for a damn 3 months now.

Go wit the SmartXX version two; the OS is stable.

Why would I need to waste money on 4MB of flash space when all you need is room for a couple of bioses at most?

No, for my needs the ICE is the perfect modchip

Yeah, the ICE is what I have.
I got the BIOS installed, but now I gotta install a Dash...
Evolution X?
Or are any of the alternatives better?

tongue.gif (As a dash anyways). Use Avalaunch or UnleashX...

I have to agree. EvoX is incredibly outdated. I can't remember the last time I saw an update that made me speachless. Avalaunch keeps suprising me. With avalaunch there is no looking back. Its a shame so few people use it.

As a modchip installer I have had experience with both os, and I find the xenium OS much more user friendly, and more customizable than smartxx. Plus the progamable LD is way cool.

You cant dl xbmc in avalaunch, what I think you are trying to do is run it from the main menu since its the first item.  You must have xbmc already installed for that link to work, its a pointer to the program on the hd, not a download link.  As far as skins, I can dl em from some of those sites, but most dont work.  I dont know whos fault that is but I get the same shit.

Avalaunch is supposed to be able to download some apps... including XBMC...

Not sure if that feature works though, as I always just get it from the usual places smile.gif

the skins do work though, although not from every site... but hell, the only skin worth using in Blu2 anyway wink.gif

I was surprised I COULD do it too, only to realize I CAN'T.

I don't really need Config Magic; I got XOSv2, which has a New Hardware Wizard.

What does DVD2Xbox do?

Too much to list wink.gif

the *main* thing it does is copies xbox games, dvds, audio cds to your xbox hd... it can also mp3 or ogg encode the audio cds. It can also auto-patch the games, or remove extraneous junk (like demos and trailers).

It also has a file browser, smb client, ftp server, text viewer in it.

It is one of the few apps every xbox *should* have installed.

Agreed. Its your best all around ripping tool.
