| so u guys really used a magnifying glass? |
For the top d0 point, heck yes. It alos helps in checking all your connections
Note: I also recommend the bottom d0 on a 1.6. It looks like the hole was meant for the wire. Fits in there rather nicely
I use it all the time better safe than sorry...
I used a 30 watt iron, no flux, no magnifying glass and used the bottom lframe. As long as your eyesight is good you shouldnt need a magnifying glass. Flux helps but I didn't need it. Most of the bottom points are huge. There is 1 (or 2 if you follow the alt 3.3v method) pad and the rest are vias. One via is small, the rest are huge. The lframe is even bigger. A 30 awg wire is small enough to fit in the hole and freely move and the via pads are huge. It isnt that hard.

I didn't... but I would've if I had one

(I just used the bottom d0 instead... gave up on the top one... that things TINY!)
I've actually done it. Its relatively easy, to be honest. The technique that was aquired is a nice touch on the soldering end of things.

Note, the bad soldering.
That's ok. I purchased a second Xbox a couple days ago, and I'm going to try it again.
Version 1.6 vs. 1.0 controllers?
I purchased an Xbox over the weekend for $99 + tax (and free Madden 2004 NFL), and its a version 1.0 (haven't cranked open the case yet).
The controller is HUGE compared to the one I have with my v.1.6.
Anyone else noticed this between revisions?

The new controllers are called "Controller S"... I guess the S stands for "small"

They've been around for quite awhile and were first introduced in the Japanese market I believe... personally I can't stand the original Giant Controllers

pinkeye,
WOW I'm impressed that you 1.6 works, the pics of your soldering job are proof that anyone could do it...
Did you use FLUX?
the one question i had was i saw some tutorials showing the VCC 3.3 wire going to the one end of the LPC wholes, while another i believe uses a solder pad below it. Does it matter which one i use? is the solder pad probably easier to solder to?
I ordered the chip and im going to attempt to solder this thing myself... everyone has to start somewhere and so far will any of the mods i've done i have been successful so lets hope that trend continues.
I used the big ass pad, worked fine.

you know that the solder goes INTO the holes right?
not stuck around the pins....
God damn I just looked at your soldering job. Thats the ugliest job I've ever seen! Most of your lpc points arent even contacting the board properly. Im shocked that it boots, but hey if it works good for you. Any mod that works is a good mod.

Wow, did that install even end up working? I can understand the raised pin header, that happens to me too just not that much, has to do with the way the board leans on your bench. Still, thats pretty fucking bad, I'm glad I'm at least better than that guy.
that whole batman thing was GREAT!!!
LOL!
