| now i could be wrong here but i'm pretty sure this might have to do with the master/slave settings you have. i believe the correct jumper settings are master for the hdd and slave for dvd drive. is the xenium os recognizing the drives for what they are? |
True, that is what is sounds like.
If you have your HD as "cable select" it would be better to use set it as master instead.
Some ppl have had problems with cable select option.
I tried playing around with new IDE cables, new jumper settings on the HD, I couldnt find any jumpers on my default Xbox thompson drive? No change.
I did discover that with my HD plugged in and my DVD Rom unplugged I can boot up to Xenium and Default Bios but nothing is different besides that, although I do hear the HD power up. I tried to access the HD by attempting to flash the bios from hdd under the Xenium menu but it said first sectors could not be found. Could it be a problem with my DVD drive?
I will try installing a new HD and see if that does anything.
Thanks,
Cat
Try totally unpluggin the xenium, even the d0 wire.
Does it work then?
The rewritable seems to be most reliable.
Try cd-rw again, but use lowest burn speed possible.
If not working try then the other media.

Thanks for the help! I finally got it to recognize my drives turned out to be a bad IDE cable I went through a bunch apparently - burnt, ripped and cracked, I actually had to use my high quality rounded DMA 133 IDE cable. AND I had a bad HD. So I got it to recognize the drives in the Xenium OS ...Yeah!
But unfortunately now I am having some issues upgrading from OS 1.0 to OS 1.1.
Problem: After getting it to recognize my drives I thought updating the Xenium OS was a next logical step.
It gets to point in the safe mode screen where it says Loading...Got From CD and the eject button is flashing red and green (access?) and the chip LED is red but then it just stays there for 30 mins until I get tired of waiting and want to try another method so I power cycle it . Around how long does it take to upgrade via DVD-R from Xenium OS 1.0 to 1.1?
I have tried using the soft menu to access the upgrade (safe mode) and using the switch method.
Right now I am using a Memorex DVD-R with a dummy file of 500MB and a recovery.bin burnt on to it. I followed the iso method outlined on the OzXodus webpage.
I guess I will try using a different disk type - I couldnt get my Memorex CD-RW to work so I will try another type DVD-RW, CD-R or DVD+R.
Thanks for you help,

Yes, damaged IDE Cables or upgraded IDE cables can frag your Xbox.

reboot 3 times and frag means that no bios is being found....
) I resoldered the pin header (which was kind of loose anyway) and the d0.
I had the same situation with the 1.0 -> 1.1 upgrade but this time when I power cycled after it not rebooting on its own, it actually worked and I got the beautiful 1.1 OS screen. The only disc it actually upgraded from was a 'high speed' memorex CD-RW (Ultra high speed type disc would not work regardless of the actual burn setting in nero).
I flashed Evox M7 and Installed everything from Slayers Disc. I didnt really want to do this but I had to get the system files from somewhere.
The next thing you know it is 3am and I am playing Ninja Gaiden!
Thanks Again.
