The main purpose of an automobile is to take you from point A to point B. That's all anyone really needs... Of course a more comfortable car is going to make the trip easier. And, if you've never really had a car before, you don't really know where all you might want to go if you had a car.
Same could be said about modchips. If you've never had one, you don't really know what all you might want to do with one after you've had it for a while.
Modding your Xbox can range from free (TSOP flash) to buying the most expensive modchip out there. What should you do? Well, it's like buying a car. Buy the most comfortable model with the most features you can afford.
My suggestion is, get a Xenium, whether you use solderless or not, the Xenium will allow you the most flexibility for the money. Once you have it, you'll learn more and more about what you can do with it, and all the more appreciate your decision to get it.
Ask yourself, are there features on your car you don't ever use? Probably. Are there features on a Xenium or other 4th gen modchip you'll never use? Maybe. But, isn't it nice to know that if someday you discover something really cool that you'd like to do with your Xbox, your Xenium would allow you do it, where a cheapmod or Xecuter Lite wouldn't have? Just my opinion, folks.

| And since there is no external adapter, can the chip be easily disabled for Xbox Live? |
When your xbox boots you can pick to load the original ms bios from the XeniumOS, which will disable the mod chip.
