OzXodus XENIUM OS Update hours away.
>> The RECOVRY.BIN file is about to be released. Xenium-OS_V1.1_Final_Beta.rar has been making the rounds and it looks good. It fixes many issues that have caused some minor grief to Xenium owners. Watch for news of the Public Release of it here and on their official site www.OzXodus.com

In the meantime.. for those who have been waiting for this OS release here is the manual so you will be ready...

Xenium OS Update Manual (PDF File)

Well based on that news it seems like SmartXX's claims that OzXodus don't have the talent to improve the XeniumOS software is complete bullshit like everything else coming out of that camp. (Don't flame me, I am just sick of hearing all the crap that SmartXX and Xecuter are throwing at the Xenium with comparison tables etc, sounds to me like they are both worried).

My guess is that this update will be a major bug fix and it will also demonstrate the flexibility of the XeniumOS and as sign of things to come.

I'd imagine that we'll know in the next day or so if the OzXodus guys are good as well all think they are, I for one am not expecting to be disappointed by this release.

Xenium rocks, Josh!

oops

Well I got the new Xenium OS update from there site 'Xenium-OS_V1.1_Final_Beta.rar'

I was flashing it and then I went to have another look at the forum to see if anyone had said anything... To my supprise they had removed the thread and the OS file!!

I went back to look because my Xenium had hund at the 'safe mode screen' and wasn't rebooting (see update manual http://downloads.ozx.....e Manual.pdf)

Well it rebooted okay (I still cannot get into my original bios unless I remove the chip) however it had removed all my uploaded bioses.

There's a few extra options Quick boot, bios led colour selection ane hard drive ones too as in unlock, format, etc...

I'll go make a list brb

Well maybe there was something wrong with it still.
Not a big deal. Think it this way. Atleast they removed it quickly.

People have waited for the update for weeks, therefore couple extra hours more wont matter. smile.gif

Update doesnt fix the original bios booting thing for me, it still only works randomly  dry.gif

None of the other "bugs" were an issue for me really, just the original bios thing. Lets hope its sorted in the public final of v1.1  smile.gif

Well, why don't you just take the chip off the pins to have it boot M$ bios?  When my box was fragging that is all I had to do, too get my original bios booting....

Unless...you screwed up your xbox so when you take the chip off, it doesn't boot...then you need a new MOBO

Yeah it works fine when I take the chip off. Just a pain... maybe I should just add a switch to the D0 wire...(something to think about)

AKA type 'xbins' and it changes to 'Get yer warez!'

Because thats not how the chip should function  dry.gif  Im not gonna sit fucking around unbolting my xbox to take the chip off every time i want to boot the original bios, only to put it back on when i want to play my backups. Fuck that, they want to get their arses into gear and get it fixed.

@ oblox, LOL, i just found that in it too  laugh.gif  Hey but dont reverse engineer it, else you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible under the Berne convention.  wink.gif  hehe.

i hope the update has cool new features and not just fixes.... and i hope the next updates don't take SOOOO long.... i mean... we aren't working with some guy making homebrew software, this is a group of people that we've PAID to get our chips with updates included.....
Title: XOS Update coming soon!
Post by: flamelan on February 19, 2004, 11:18:00 AM
I am dissapointed if the update includes lot of new features.
Programming is wery time consuming process.
The bug fixes need to be done first.

If there is lot of new features would mean that
only bug fix update would have been possible long time back.

Instant Boot ™ is cool
If I turn it on and press then power button (to turn the X-Box on) it instantly boots my default Bios.
If I press the eject button it loads my Xenium OS see video linked on this page.

Mine been running for hrs and many reboots too it's okay for me.
From other messages I got I think there busy ironing out the last problem (that of the original bios not booting properly for some people - me being one of them).

I'll bet they'll release it once it's fixed

Oh and your all welcome

EDIT I did have it go funny on the upgrade though I did it from within the OS and on the e: drive and had to reboot it manually (wait 20 mins and it was still on the safemode screen) rebooted okay though.

Note THIS IS JUST MY VIEWPOINT ON THE CODE

I've not tried it (don't have a spare HD) but by the looks of the Hex the 'Smart Drive Upgrade' is for putting a HD inplace of the DVD and then setting it up to replace your original HD.

OzXodus proudly presents Xenium-OS V1.1
20th February 2003

============
BUGS FIXED
============

- Focus/Component video support: Xenium-OS will now work with component video cables (HDTV) on V1.4 & V1.5 consoles.

- Focus video resolution: Xenium-OS resolution for the focus chipset has been increased to 800x600 so all screens are identical for Conexant & Focus owners.

- Boot without controllers: There is no longer a need for a controller to be present when booting to a default bios from Xenium-OS.

- Controller compatibility: A range of third party controllers, steering wheels, lightguns and IR remotes are now compatible with the Xenium-OS. Please report any further incompatibilities on our message forums at http://www.ozxodus.com

- EEprom Tools LED warning: Console's power LED now changes to RED when saving EEprom data as a safety measure.

- Onscreen keyboard overlap with Focus chipset: Some keys were not visible when using a V1.4 or V1.5 console.

- HDD Browser bug: When exiting the browser without selecting a file, Xenium-OS will not lockup anymore.

==============
NEW FEATURES
==============

- Instant Boot ™: The ability to instantly boot your console using the default bios and skip the Xenium-OS splash page. Once enabled in the Xenium-OS settings menu you can power on your console using the power button and boot to the default bios, otherwise press the Eject button to start your console up in the Xenium-OS. No additional hardware install wires are required for this feature!!

- Onscreen Keyboard Upgrade: Symbols are now available for bios naming.

- Bank LED Colors: Assign a different color of the Xenium's LED to each bios bank. Default colors are Bank 1 = Green, Bank 2 = Red, Bank 3 = Blue, Bank 4 = Amber.

- Drive Info: Reports HDD model, capacity and lock status as well as DVD-Rom model.

- Lock/Unlock HDD: Lock or Unlock your HDD from Xenium-OS.

- Smart Drive Upgrade: Upgrade your HDD within Xenium-OS by replacing your DVD-Rom with a new HDD (set as Slave) for the duration of the cloning process. (Works with with source drives < 137Gb).

- Copy Partitions: Copy a HDD's partition to another HDD. Supports Partitions C,E,F,X,Y and Z.

- Format Partitions: Individually format your C,E,F,X,Y and Z partitions.

- Autodetection of X2 4981 series bioses.

- IR Support: You can navigate the Xenium-OS with your IR remote control using the following button mappings.

============
KNOWN BUGS
============

- When two devices are inserted into both memory card slots on a single controller, Xenium-OS navigation is not possible. To resolve this problem simply remove one device. Fault confirmed with 2 x memory cards as well as 1 x memory card and 1 x voice communicator.

- Controller button sensitivity may vary depending on what controller combinations are installed into what ports.

- Failure to boot Original Bios, this bug has been documented on our forums although at this point we have not been able to simulate the fault. We suggest that if you experiance this problem that you use a bios bank to enter the MS Dashboard and confirm your date and time settings are correct, thus far this is the most effective way to rectify the problem.

I have 1.1 OS installed and could not get my original bios to boot (not on any regular basis anyway)
So I set my Original Bios to be my default and turned 'Instant Boot ?' on and now if it has a problem it just reboots a couple of times and my original bios kicks in!

You know, it strikes me as funny. This is exactly the kind of thing I ran into all the time in PC development projects.

Your developers build a kick a$$ product that works flawlessly on the office equipment. Get it out in the wild and it acts different ways on different customers' boxes, as if each had its own personality, even though the parts are mass produced somewhere in China.... HMMM ... go figure...

As for my update experience, I found just the opposite scenario. I did the HDD upgrade, it found the file, but never rebooted. I just manually rebooted after a few minutes of sitting there and 1.1 came up on the screen. Totally weird how we all have XBOXes with the same modchip and the software acts so different for each of us ... HMMMM.... *scratches head and saunters off*
