It's just your drive not reading the file on disc. I tried a CD-R but had the same problems you described. Moved to a CD-RW and it worked.

I tried a couple different discs last night - one CD-R and one CD-RW. Neither worked - i wasn't surprised at the CD-R even though I have a samsung drive, but i was a little disappointed that the RW didn't work. Anyway, I just now found out that there's a new version of the Xenium OS manual out that lists the specifics of how a disc should be burned. I had the disc in mode 1, but not in ISO Level 1 (8+3 filenames only) - and also wasn't burning disc at once 96. So tonight i'll pick up some new CD-RWs and try again with the correct specs, and a bigger dummy file.
The actual hardware install went fine - that d0 is a TINY spot to solder, but eventually I managed, despite my crappy soldering iron that would only melt solder half the time. Somehow I pictured the actual chip being way bigger than it was - probably because all the shots online show it larger than actual size!
